Good to meet another fellow insider such as yourself cyborg, who recognizes the lack of warmth from those that are supposed to be setting an example for us. As a person whose been here awhile and posted tons and tons of messages, I'd like to welcome you....heck, who am I kidding, I just signed up for a membership on here last friday. Well anyway, nice to meet a fellow 26 year old who's suffering from the same concerns such as myself. Hope to see more from you.

Disempowerment of women WTBS use of that woman Jezebel analogy
by cyborg injust wondering if anyone has had similar experience.
i could swallow the fact that only men were given main parts at the meeting (i wouldnt want them anyway) but that im humiliated every time i tried to give opinion or make a suggestion, is just beyond me.
in fact if i was even mildly persistent to make them see my point of view id be presented with that woman jezebel analogy.

I can understand where you're coming from. I think it sucks the way the sisters are regarded by the WTBS. Then you got the ones that do act bossy and controlling and the elders say it's wrong, but most of the time the elders are the ones married to these women so even though they don't directly influence the congregation, they do it in subtle indirect ways.

What's your view on my "Being the Brother" issue that came up today?
by soundbox_guy ini'm in field service today and i'm not even the guy that took the group out, as a matter of fact, i show up late today as usual.
well anyway, i'm assigned to be on another street with my mother and some other witnesses.
at this point i'm the only brother because the other guy hasn't shown up yet.

Thanks for the responses. I like free-thinking atmospheres where everyone is satisfied and not just one person. And I'm not into those people that are hung up on power and feel like it doesn't matter what the person under them thinks. And by the way, katiekitten, I'm not that much of a "young'in", I've been with a woman your age before. And I don't mean just in the same room either.

weird dream
by Es inhey all how are we?
i had the weirdest dream last night, i went back to the meeting for the first time in like 3 years and lo and behold they gave me a talk to do.
so a few hours before i was due to give the talk i was researching it and i could not for the life of me understand one little bit.

I wish I had something more meaningful to say ES, but I'm new and don't know you as well as everyone else on here. I guess one thing I can say is, don't worry, after you go see "Batman Begins" tomorrow, you'll go to sleep with some good dreams. Well, actually if you scare easily, some parts may freak you out, but you'll sleep well knowing you saw a Great movie. I'm going to go back to see it again tomorrow as well.

I'm in field service today and I'm not even the guy that took the group out, as a matter of fact, I show up late today as usual. Well anyway, I'm assigned to be on another street with my mother and some other witnesses. At this point I'm the only brother because the other guy hasn't shown up yet. On the first street the sisters ask which block I want them to do first, so I tell them to do the block the brother said to do at the Hall. After I do this, some other sister across the street has already started and she's in the opposite block and saying we're supposed to be over there (We got sisters that don't listen at our Hall), so I don't get offended and I just say "Okay, since they're already over there, we can start over there then." Okay, now when we get to the next street, the same sister asks me again where they should start and I ask them what does the majority prefer. After everyone comes to a satisfied agreement on how they want to do it, I get this speech from someone about how I should just be "The Brother" and tell them what to do. I think this is stupid because it wasn't really a big deal to me, it was just picking a block to work in first. I mean I have much bigger issues to deal with on my job, stuff like that is meaningless to me. After they tell me this stuff, I actually start quoting some of the words I've seen people use in the forums by saying that "I'm not into the whole dictatorship thing, and that I'm okay with leaving things open to people." So what do you guys think, I've gotten confronted in the past about "Being the Brother" and just want to know, does it seem like I'm less of a man for doing what I did or was that just them being too bossy and anal?

How many of you are childfree by choice?
by rebel8 inby that, i mean you do not want to have children.. i have been told since birth it would not be safe for me to have children, so i never even considered it.
i never went through a grieving period because the concept of having babies was not something i once had and lost.
i always envisioned myself as a happy career woman.. i recently married and am still sure i don't want children.

I don't know if I'd want a kid, especially at my age right now. I get embarrassed easily and kids make you have to do stuff that doesn't look cool like having to stop talking to someone at the supermarket in order to yell at them. Let's say I'm a single father or a guy that just got divorced and I'm trying to talk to some hot woman....."Yeah, I come here sometimes, you know the prices, they're pretty good....So I heard that...wait a second...Billy, didn't I tell you to stop doing that?! Huh? I'm not gonna tell you anymore!....Okay, so back to what I was saying....hold on again one sec....Billy, I told you, do not stand up on that.....I'm sorry, what was I saying to you?"
See, I couldn't deal with that.

Don't have to work Baptism pool because of getting turned on by the women?
by soundbox_guy inthey want me to work the baptism pool, but i don't want to.
you imagine i could just say that i'd be tempted by all the half dressed young women walking around dripping wet with their feet showing and it wouldn't be good for me as a brother since i have an active imagination and a foot fetish?
nahhh....i wouldn't tell them that, but they do want me to work it though.

Either that or I could just tell them it's a rolled up WatchTower in my pocket.

Oh, and if you liked the movie, pick up the video game...It expounds upon some of the things in the movie, and lets you sneak up on criminals to strike fear in them.

I agree guys. I've been waiting over like a year and a half to see this movie ever since I found out Christopher Nolan, who did "Memento", was directing it. Even went to see them film some of the scenes last Summer. I recommend everyone check it out.

What was your breaking point?
by soundbox_guy inokay, i'm new as you all probably know, so my question may have been discussed several times in the past.
i'm just curious as to when some of you came to the conclusion that enough was enough and that you didn't want to attend the meetings anymore or not be a jw.
was it in field service, at home, at the hall?

I know what you mean, misspeaches. I think about the movie "The Incredibles" a lot when I think about my situation in the organization. I have talent that could be used to do great things, but I used to feel like I had to hide those talents because of them teaching people that you're not supposed to be successful at anything outside of the organization. If someone asks what goals you have for the future, you're supposed to say "I want to be a ministerial servant and then an elder" or, "I want to go to Bethel." If you say "I want to have my own production company one day and create movies that make people laugh or that touch people in some sort of way.", they think you're being selfish and self-centered. Doing this to people makes them conform to the point where they lose their own individuality and they become like the Borg, like someone stated earlier.
