Sounds like it was brought to the elders attention already. Funny how that works.

Paedophile used religion to keep abuse secret
by behemot inpaedophile used religion to keep abuse secrettuesday, march 30, 2010, 06:30a paedophile raped and sexually assaulted women and girls over a period of 40 years by using their religion to keep the abuse secret.. despite one revealing it to the jehovah's witness elders, no help was given, a court heard.. now george arthur cockerill, 78, has been jailed indefinitely after he admitted 19 rapes, four counts of sexual activity with a child, six counts of indecency with a child, one sex assault and two counts of indecency with a child.. judge roger thorn qc, sitting at hull crown court, said: "you have pleaded guilty to 32 serious counts that reflect your sexual depravity.. "the reality is that, from beginning to end, it is extended over 40 years.
you have wasted your life and caused untold misery.. "as one victim said, you have stolen her childhood.. "you have been the most terrible hypocrite, passing yourself off as a law-abiding member of the community and using religion as a tool of subjection to control your victims.. "that is why i'm satisfied this remained a secret for so long.".
cockerill was sentenced to imprisonment for public protection for a minimum of six years.. he will not be released until the parole board believe he is no longer a danger.. cockerill, of hull, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.. he allegedly had five victims, three of whom were subject to the convictions he pleaded guilty to and two more have made allegations against him.. police believe there could be more.. in a statement read to the court, one victim said: "he took my childhood away.".

Haven't been to a meeting in 4 yrs
by Dnice inbut still feel the need to attend.
anyone else feel or felt that way?.

Dnice, welcome!
I no longer feel a need to go to the memorial. It has been about forever now. . .I recently moved to the middle east in a country where evangelizing is illegal. Flat out. I like that about this place. No memorial, but Christians are free to worship as they please, they are simply not allowed to tell others why they should worship the same way. Works for me!

Mormons do not have any religious restrictions to keep them from being on mental health meds or any others that I am aware of. They can't drink coffee, smoke take alcohol or drugs. And if there were a medical reason for the use of caffeine, I don't know of any LDS person I have ever known that would get all JW about not partaking of it. OTOH, I don't know of any reasons why caffeine or booze would be prescribed. . . This kid was not a practicing mormon and was publically accepted by his mom. That he never fit in doesn't mean he was being abused or hated or hurt in any deliberate way. I have known gay LDS people(or former LDS people) who had funerals in an LDS church that were well attended by people who loved and cared for them their whole lives until they died of AIDS. My experience with the LDS culture was not anything like the JW one, and while a person can be excommunicated religiously, there was no requirement for any LDS person to cut a ex member out of their lives (though I am sure that some do, just like some catholics or baptists etc do)

Elder rules regarding young children
by lancelink inthis afternoon i was talking to one of my sons (25 yrs old) and he was telling me stories about how he felt as a young jw.
some of the stories were pretty sad.. it got me thinking ,, the elders were real "micromanagers" when it came to young kids at the meetings.. we were not allowed to bring books outside of the wt, no alphabet, picture, or counting type books .. also food was a big no-no.
when my kids were toddlers, we would bring cheerios, small stuff like that.. the wizards would bellow from the stage, "you should not feed your kids, take care of that before the meetings.. after that time, i still brought food with, we just made several trips down to the basement during the meetings.. out in service on a 95 degree day no shade, kids and parents were advised to keep your tie on.

I think that all of the above is true of what happens, but additionally, putting kids on the stand giving 'talks' and then JUDGING them publically is nasty and cruel. What kid needs that kind of pressure? I thought that most of the elders in our cong. were generally kind, but those evaluations could be brutal even in the pussyfooting around the truth.

For crying out loud-Yiz mentioned his disability NOT ONE TIME in any direct way or in any way that sought sympathy. It is not a pity party to say that one was layed off and out of work. Trying to find a job right now is hard enough if one is young, healthy and with a brilliant education. I met a girl last week who recently graduated from Georgetown with a degree in Maths and Japanese. She is working, but over 50% of her classmates are not employed at all, the rest are not in a professional job-most of them are taking the jobs that formerly high school educations could get-retail and food service. She was the lucky one and she knows it. Do you know how many people are thanking their lucky stars to be living here in the desert, across from IRAN, next to YEMEN and SAUDI ARABIA just because they have a job and can support their families? No one takes work for granted, and I know Yiz didn't either. I have lost a job because of caring for a sick person, and that situation makes it hard to find and keep a job. Not whinging, just stating the facts.
Yiz, you and your wife will make it through this, cause that is what love can do. And a good lawyer if necessary. Take care of her-its tricky for her to not eat with the diabetes-you know that and must worry like crazy. I am hoping for the best for the two of you and I have confidence that you will figure this out.

There was an awful literature surrounding the captive audience. Still glad some help was being given. Too bad they didn't think about allowing some of those kids their DIGNITY. Anyone else surprised at some of the pics posted?

Please welcome my sister!
by mjarka911 inalthough she has posted once here herself (ange 2.0), i would like to introduce everyone to my sister ange.
up until a week ago, i had not spoken to her for 5+ years after i da'd.
we are both 3rd generation with hard core parents (just hard core attitudes, not hard core jw activity).

Welcome Ange! We are an ornery lot, but we all love each other in some sort of "comrade in arms" kind of way that defies logic sometimes.

It doesn't matter whether your uncle is more into 'reason' or 'faith'. If you are not going along with him by the end of the conversation, it doesn't really matter. I would heed the others who warned you of his being a second witness. I have found that relatives say one thing when they think you can be turned back, another when you leave. If your family is so 'in' it that your uncle is an elder, your mom will be put under theocratic pressure to shun you, and that will trump her promise. With family in on all sides, there is no way out of that one. Just fade, don't talk about it, don't 'come out' in any public way if you want to maintain that relationship. Just my advice based on observations for years.

Man, you know the bus and garage are a permanent solution to what can be NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL! Just stop going to the damn meetings!
I never hated the meetings that much, but there have been other things---I know where you are coming from with that. I don't think you are serious about the ideas that are crossing your mind, but I don't understand why you are going at all. Your head is OUTA THERE, why you making the rest of you miserable along with it?
