I am sorry for your loss, but glad for you that you let her go with peace, beauty and love. So many here have not experienced that in their loss (and there have been a LOT lately, whats up with that??) I am sorry about your daughters. They missed out on a beautiful farewell to their grandmother and will come to regret missing out on a beautiful family experience and a chance to pay their respects. I hope that they always showed their respects to her in person.

We have a lot of hunters in the family, none were trophy hunters, though they were all happy to get a huge elk with lots of antler things. Points? Almost none of them hunt anymore, but half the reason they did in the first place was so that we could eat meat on a regular basis. As we got older, it was habit, now they are busy with other things, biking, photography, family projects.

What would be something you'd like from secret santa?
by megsmomma ini am already thinking of ideas.
my sister had an online relationship with a man from holland (they are now married in the us) anyhow, they would send eachother packages and the coolest things he would send was different foods from there... cookies the us doesn't have, chocolate spread for toast.... this is my first gift exchange since i was a kid, so anyone have some ideas?

Yikes, just realized i should mention that bath and scented products are not a good idea for me. I am allergic to all kinds of stuff. Sigh. I will be grateful for anything I get though.

Hi, welcome! It was announced from the podium when I left, even though I had never been baptised-I was disassociated (as opposed to being an acceptable associate, I guessed).
I think perversion exists in all religions, cause every religion is filled with human beings. I think the Shakers only have about 5 old ladies left, so they may be the exception.
I have noted in other posts that while there are standard theology/doctrine across the board among JWs, there is a lot of difference in practice and application. Some congregations are a lot more hardcore than others. Depends on the elders and overseers and, whether they want to admit it or not, their local culture, from what I have noticed. I am glad you got out relatively painlessly. I have had some mixed experience, but overall do not have good feelings about my association with the RELIGION. I do have some great feelings about certain people, and I grew up in a loving family. Most of the extended JW family was nuts, but my dad wasn't JW, so we had a more normal upbringing than many of my friends on the forum.
Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to share your experiences-even if they are good or neutral. You don't have to be anti JW or bitter or angry to be here. All are welcome and all of us need to hear 'the rest of the story' lest we get entirely wrapped up in our own stories.

They also believe that Jesus returned invisibly in 1914. So you can panic as much as you think is warranted by their proven level of accuracy.

I don't think I want to be a JW anymore!
by Outaservice innow let me get this straight brothers............................. 1st, you told me not to wear any sideburns in my short hair requirement.. 2nd, you told me that i had to wear white shirts with my suit and tie (no pastel or colored) and if i didn't i couldn't speak at the hall.. 3rd, you suggested a four door car only, for if i bought a two door car then i was not considered too mature.. 4th, i had to be to bed early on friday night, to be fresh for saturday morning field service, and the same thing saturday night, so i would be fresh for sunday morning.. 5th, you mentioned i could not stay in the hotel i wanted during the convention, but had to settle for some flea-bag one that you arranged for us.. 6th, you said i had to attend meetings somewhere even when i was on vacation and probably it would be better if i 'vacation pioneered' during that short time i got every year as that would be the best use of my time.. 7th ,you called me wanting an explanation if i happened to miss two meetings in a row.. 8th, you wanted to know the title and kind of books i read in my own house, to make sure they were approved by the organization.. 9th, you hinted not to spend too much time with my worldly 'mother' because the organization was my mother!.
10th, you mentioned that i should not stop for coffee or breakfast on saturday morning, even though i was an adult and free to do whatever i wanted.. who in the hell do you think you are?
good bye, i'm going back to join 'the human race'!.

The more I read these threads, the more I think that the org. works very differently in the US and abroad. I also know that the standards of some things vary greatly from cong. to cong. and region to region in the US. Fashions have changed dramatically also. One of our MS wore the most godawful homemade polyester suits (hideous colors w/matching homemade dress shirts and UGH ties). The homemade part is great, and the wife was a good seamstress. I am thinking though that the hideous colors may have inspired the org.(or more local decision makers) to forbid colored shirts in an attempt to alleviate some of the eyestrain that happened in our (and others, I am sure) congregation.

I always thought it was interesting how the WT really kind of bragged about how much the JWs were put in positions of 'trust' in the camps. Is this something anyone would want to brag about? Being the Nazi's favorite prisoners/victims? If anything, it makes them more suspect to me of not being that 'persecuted'. How many were actually in the camps? Two hundred died? Old age could have taken that many. I do not doubt the holocaust-I have met guards and victims. The only JW I know of, however, WAS a guard in the camps (He is an accountant or CPA in WA). Still trying to figure out how it is that he is here in the states legally.

When I decide to try drugs, I think I TOO will go with one of the most lethal and addictive ones for my starter drug. Then eventually I will work myself down to cocaine and pot and then to the occasional sip of sacramental wine. Right. I was ready to believe the best till I heard about the meth confession. Who does he think he is fooling??? Not even me, I am about the most gullible person around.

You are not weird. Killing a critter is not a natural feeling thing for most people, and even hunters have some mixed feelings about it. We ran over a deer on the freeway when my kids were tiny and I still recoil when I think of it. Not in guilt, but just dismay that it happened. Its a sad thing. We once were at a stop sign and saw a mommy and baby deer crossing the street in a bad area(people coming over a hill a little too fast usually in a neighborhood) and I knew something bad would happen. I reached over an honked the horn, trying to scare the deer or alert the people who were surely coming up the road, but the deer didn't scare easy(finally gave the kids a show and NOT the one I wanted them to see). The baby had a leg broken and the mommy made it to the side of the road and just looked confused about what to do about her baby. It was absolutely heartbreaking (serious mommy hormones were coursing through me at this point). Fortunately, one of the neighbors worked in an animal rescue group and took the baby, but I still feel bad for the doe. I live in WA state, and when I go shopping I frequently see deer at the AFB. They are lucky, no one speeds on base!

That was hysterical. Thanks for the giggle. I just spent the day in a cub scout den leader training meeting. Mind you I have been to a total of 4 cub scout meetings total so far and I have already seen some of the same schtick 3 times. I needed a real laugh!!!I am still getting over the fact that they were only charging $15 for the movies. Around here it would be $50 min. no matter what movie. Shelly
