"Once the new hall was built, the old one ended up being converted into a "church."
Wow, you'd think jehovah would have struck the renovated KH with fireballs seeing that his former residence was now being occupied by the great harlot!!! LOL
ive attended meetings at a handful of kingdom halls in my day.
i would venture a guess of approximately five or six.
ive also driven by many more.

so i was writing a paper the other day, specifically about the skewed world view that i had had as a witness, and i typed the following - .
pain, misery, strife, these were all things that used to prove to me that jehovah's witnesses were correct in their assessment of a dying world which was soon to be liberated/obliterated by the hand of god.
this "liberation" was something that i desperately longed for.
anewme,
you sound like a very gentle and kind person, but you are the only JW I have ever known who isnt focused on the coming wrath of god and the destruction of "the wicked old system" and all the sinners within it. Maybe if more JWs were like you, they wouldnt get such a bad rap on this 'mass destruction issue'.

my old KH actually had lots of windows, but they dont build them like that anymore. I would always go out of my way to get a "window" seat and stare longingly out the window as one of the androids blabbed on and on about the end of world......I was happy just to see a green tree outside of this boredom chamber.....
after several attempts to log on, im finally in!
woohoo!.
well my story goes as follows, grew up a dub, in northern england, mum, dad, and the rest of us brood, dad becomes an elder sisters pioneers, and me and me brother were regular "publishers".
Welcome Skinny !
i suffer from depression and have been on meds, but now i choose not to take them.
i am thinking of going back into just "therepy" but my question is do jws beleive in therepy?
im not a jw but i do read and beleive the jw way.
Welcome to the board!
Please please please dont go to any 'elders' for help with any psychological problems. These are window washers and janitors masquerading as mental health professionals....very very dangerous! Seek out qualified, professional help at all costs......
.
i was just wondering if you had any doctors, lawyers, pyschologists, psychiatrists, engineers or any highly educated ones in your congregation?
.
Not a single doctor, lawyer, academic, etc in my old hall. But I agree with Blondie, susceptibility to the JWs is more to do with personality, emotional liability, etc, and less to do with level of education. Education is more dangerous to a witness born into it because suddenly their eyes are opened to forbidden knowledge.....but for new recruits that come in as adults, its usually some precipitating crisis that makes them vulnerable to the WTS, regardless of prior education, profession, etc.
are jehovahs witnesses meant to take the story of adam and eve literally or just figuratively.
Witness kids are given "my book of bible stories", which gives a summarized account of all the major bible legends, however, these are presented to them as cold, hard "facts" and as real historical events, this is usually a JW kids first introduction to "history" LOL

ill come back to what it means for design in nature to have empirical content, but i want for the moment to stay with the worry that intelligent design is but a disguised form of creationism.
ask any leader in the design movement whether intelligent design is stealth creationism, and theyll deny it.
What the ID-ots cant seem to grasp is that they have lost the battle, with the exception of a few hill-billy outposts in the bible belt, they are simply ignored by the scientific establishment because they are irrelevant. My research will be funded regardless of the occasional bible-thumping nut-bar claiming the earth is 6000 yrs old. All national and international science funding agencies are controlled by....you guessed....proponents of evolution and theres not a god-damned thing the creationists will EVER be able to do about it!! So to paraphrase another famous creationist who happens to be the president: "Bring em'on!!!" whooo-hoooo!!!!
now here is an interesting take on all things..... .

Indeed, religionists dont find us so evil when they have to rely on our scientific methodologies to cure their diseases or heat their homes!

we found him a few months ago ( he was a stray and my mom brought him home) and the first day he was fine but over the last two months his behavior has gotten really bad.
