Shunned - but still friends?
by GermanXJW inyesterday, we got an email from our former best friends (for about 15years).
they never told us directly that they are going to shun us but just did not phone any more.
now, there was a reason to email them because we had a not jw related question.

"We decided to write back that it is emtionally too exhausting for us to have contact just now and then."
But now the bridge has been totally burned. The fact that they were even contacting you suggested some hope that they at least did not accept the WTS shunning policy completely. This may have eventually led to an opportunity to open this door of doubt even further. In your place, I would have left the communication open at least as a possibility for expressing your position to them and potentially sowing a small seed of doubt in their minds.

God Is Love

"Who are we to check the hand of the Most High, we are so finite and dont understand hardly anything in the end, very small minds."
>Read the above quotes again, signed by your god. If I were to encounter a megalomaniac egoist such as the character described in your bible, I would run very fast. We dont understand hardly anything? Its not difficult to understand the harsh, dictatorial brutality espoused by your ridiculous, anthropomorphised god-creature.
"I still believe that we don't understand everything but I understand enough not to question the Almighty"
>Wow. Reallly pitiful. The mighty power of self-delusion, so mastered by the religious. You understand enough not to "question"? Ergo, you understand enough not to use your critical thinking skills, your ability to reason or use deductive logic? Do you find it interesting that the deputies of Hitler had a similar "unquestioning" attitude to their Fuerher?
"and when all the dust settles, there will be an explanation."
>So you willingly admit your god is employing deception and subterfuge to "communicate" with humans? Instead of being honest, he prefers to play infantile games and riddles with us lowly mortals until, in his infinite love and majesty, decides to reveal his "divine" scheme?
"That is what my faith says, I still believe he is a God of love, waking up tomorrow to an earth still rotating and food and a hope proves that to me."
>Interesting, because by all the evidence provided in the first post, he is a jealous egomaniac hell-bent on satisfying the lust of his own ego. Wow, a god of "love" that sits on his sacred ass while innocent babies starve to death, while genocides take place, while murders take place every 6 seconds while half the worlds population lives in abject poverty, disease and starvation. Yup! Sounds like a sweetie! Amen!
"I trust the Bible and my God through Christ."
>No problem. Its a free world. If you choose to trust a self-contradictory liar and deceiver, more power to you. Whatever gets you through the night......

"I believe the entire focus should be on Jesus as our Saviour. Anything in excess of this allows room for the diverse confusion set forth in the previous posts."
With all due respect, Jeff, if you believe in a loving, all knowing creator, does it logically follow that he would deliberately present confusing, inpenetrable "mysteries" to his worshippers? Is clarity not the ultimate mark of intelligence? Would a "loving" deity transmit a muddled, enigmatic message to those he desired to save from eternal damnation?
Why would any logical person respect or even desire to worship a being so hopelessly incapable of transmitting a simple, straightforward message?
I find it disturbing in the extreme that you refer to the previous posts as "diverse confusion" when they are simply the products of the human mind attempting to make sense out of the garbled, jabberwocky posing as "revealed truth" in the bible. Does this REALLY make sense to you???

When Did You Know You Could?
by tall penguin inin the preface of dawkins' latest book, "the god delusion" he opens with this: .
"as a child, my wife hated her school and wished she could leave.
years later, when she was in her twenties, she disclosed this unhappy fact to her parents, and her mother was aghast: 'but darling, why didn't you come to us and tell us?

Interesting topic, Penguin!
Thinking about this, I cant seem to recall such a moment or epiphany. I think it was more akin to coming to a point (gradually) where I knew I could not continue to believe in any of the nonsense anymore, be it watchtower theology or belief in any religious notions in general. In that sense, it was a breaking point of mounting disbelief and not even a choice on my part.
I think the primary difference between my still believing relatives and me is that I simply could not repress the doubts any longer.

JW view of Worship is the problem
by Amazing inin some private discussions with ex-jws over the years, i have boiled down some of the disagreements to a different view of what worship is or is not.
this view often unwittingly affects ex-jws, and underpins their arguments, even though they do not realize it.. to a jw, worship of jehovah is done by going out door-to-door, attending meetings, commenting, singing, and prayer.
these are acts only done to and for jehovah.. to a protestant, going door-to-door is nice, vene being at church is nice, but not worship.

While I agree that JWs fundamentally become obsessed with "works" as opposed to grace, what they constitute as "works" is in reality diametrically opposed to what most mainstream religions would consitute as works indicative of the "Christ" mindset and philosophy.
Ergo, while JWs consider peddling magazines for a publishing corporation "christian works", mainstream Christendom actually gets involved in the "real" world in the form of charities, community outreach, public work projects, etc. e.g. The Catholic Childrens Aid Society", "Salvation Army", etc etc.
From the outset, the Watchtower has enforced a xenophobic fear of engaging in ANY activity that would provide literal, material benefit to a fellow human being. The "customers" of peddling JWs are even expected to cough up money for the WTS rags.

What Do You Know About Wicca?
by Anitar infor as long as i can remember, i think wicca is one of the most misunderstood of all religions.
last week, in my nature writing and literature class, a friend of mine gave a presentation of the history of wicca and an explanation of their beliefs.
basically in a nutshell, she said that wicca's believe that everything in life goes in a circle, from the life and death cycle to the calendar of holidays they celebrate.. i asked several questions, mainly trying to determine if they are a cult like the watchtower.

Interesting questions about evolution, created and the WTS.
by Santisimo inisn't it possible that god created the universe to look old?.
think about it, when god created adam he was a full grown adult - not an infant.
he created eve as a full grown woman.. is it hard to believe that god could create a universe fully formed?
