Congregations are small and most of the JWs know what this announcement means. They apply the scripture that calls for not even saying a greeting to such a person. Some apply this councel either more or less strictly, some can be liberal when no one is looking. OC |

This concerns an ' 03 Topic about ex-elders and should they apologize
by juni ina poster on this site was kind to direct me to an ' 03 topic for discussion that dealt with the question whether ex-elders who were on a jc should feel responsible for the hurt and damage to families that suffered df in their family and therefore seek these ones out and apologize.. some felt that these elders were only following what they felt was expected of them and others felt it was a good idea.. how do posters here who were former elders on jc feel about this now?
thank you to all for your input.
juni.

I was an elder for only a short time, never had been on a JC but I did shun a good life long friend who is now dead. I feel terrible about this and always remember how cruel this felt at the time and I think this has been a big part of how I feel now. Yes, I would love to apoligize to this person, I wish this every day. I am sure that those former elders who have good hearts feel heart broken every day for any pain they might have caused. OC

Truth Book from 1974
by Virgogirl indoes anyone remember "the truth that leads to everlasting life" book?
it was blue, and was intended as a six month home study book.
i think it came out in 1974at an assembly with much fanfare and gasping!.

I remember the truth book with great fondness. Easy to place, easy to read and easy to study with someone out of. Now, that book, "Babylon the Great has fallen" I hated that book, don't think I ever said those words out loud or even to myself at the time, but I do remember disliking the Tuesday night study, and having the seperate question booklet made the whole experience even worst. Does anyone remember doing track work back than, we had to distribute what ended up being 7 tracks, it was likened to the blowing of the 7 trumpets?

Your right, if I did ever get to Europe, I certainly wouldn't spend my time sitting on hard seats having to hear what they have to say. OC

Minimum wage for all JWs
by ocsrf in.
perhaps ex jws should bring a case against the organization asking for back wages, if they are a corp. for profit they would be required to pay all us citizens $6.15 per hour even though they are sales people.
the society collects time sheets every week so there is a record of how much each preacher (salesman) (employee) should get paid.. the us government might bring the case for the poor jws, because they are very much interested in all employees being fairly compensated for work rendered.. i would think at the very least the society would have to open all their financial records and account for all monies spent to prove they are a non-profit organization.. oc

Oh, and the federal minimum wage in the U.S. is $5.15 and hour. It's been that way since Bill Clinton was in office. It hasn't been raised in eight or nine years. That's what happens when you vote for Republicans
Perhaps the number used is for my area. Thanks for correcting me. OC -

Dear Sir, Is it trully voluntary?
Is it trully a non-profit organization?
Are not JWs highly trained sales people and are they not taught how to collect money and recruit new members?
Sure it could be a silly suggestion, but I enjoyed making it anyway..
By the way, if someone comes into your law office from the government you better have all the signs about minimum wage posted and you better have records of that young man or woman being paid their minimum wage, even if they are paid sales commissions. Even if they have no contract! The government does not care about your contracts they care about protecting those who are not being paid by unethical employers.

Relationship/money/other troubles...advice...
by aloneinPA ini look like a newbie, but i post under another name.
the reason i created this new name was to keep a certain someone, who reads this board but does not post, from discovering this post.. i posted about this business that my boyfriend is involved in.
i was skeptical about it.

No your not being unreasonable. Self-employement is great; however, much planning and some sacrifice is needed and necessary. Doesn't sound like he put that much into the planning and if he has, he should share this with you since you will be also involved in any sacrifices that are needed. Perhaps you can ask him to show you his business plan and budget and ask him to help you understand how the two of you will make it for the next several months. The key in this, is to check your emotions at the door, if you bring that along with you, the conversation may breakdown before you get all your questions answered. The more he discusses it and thinks about it, he may actually come to the same thought you have. But at some point be honest with him and be sure he understands how you feel before he gets to the point of no return.

It is just those families/individuals who are earning big bucks that can swing it, the materialistic, less godly ones, you know.
Good point, made me laugh witht that one.I think they were hoping for more mature ones with many years of experience, but I guess now they will settle for whatever they can get.
Perhaps if they open it to inactive ones, I can GO...LOL
