  I think any changes they might make will be designed to tighten their control, not loosen it. I don't think they'll see any increased privileges for women or relaxing of any other rules. One of their biggest problems is their apathetic sales force that is spending less time knocking on doors and more time surfing the internet, or just trying to live a normal life.

  I think any future new light™ will be something to increase their urgency - maybe a "new understanding" of some "prophetic scripture" that will strengthen their conviction that "armageddon is just around the corner".

  The August 3, 2005 edition of the Arkhangelsk regional newspaper Pravda Severo-Zapada went so far as to compare the Jehovah’s Witnesses to the Japanese death cult Aum Sinrikyo, whose followers released nerve gas in the Tokyo subway several years ago.

  I don't believe the majority of JWs would ever do such a thing if ordered, but I know of a few who would. I remember one MS who said several times the society should send out "hit teams to whack apostates".

  I haven't walked out of a movie in a very long time...

  ... but today i went to see deuce bigalow: european gigolo and i have to say it was the most stupid thing i have seen in a very long time.

  it was so painfully bad that i actually walked out on it.

  it was a never ending series of "penis" jokes and "gay" jokes and other really really stupid gags... like the girl bigalow meets in obsessive compulsive and has 130 stupid things she does.

  Children or no Children?

  the jws used to always have discussions about whether to have children "in this system of things".. i used to always think it was pathetic to avoid having kids because of the so-called impending armageddon.. however.

  despite the fact that i've always wanted kids, right now i'm not so sure.

  Actually, I don't have it all that bad. I no longer have to tolerate all the excessive background noise every time I make myself a lousy peanut butter sandwich.

  Why do some brothers quit Pioneering shortly after they get married?

  i've noticed this in our congregation, that a lot of brothers who start of pioneering in their mid to late teens, stop shortly after they get married.

  maybe they think it's a sister thing.. also, a lot of the friends in the hall who have been to pioneer school, are no longer pioneers.

  this seems to be more for the younger jw's, than the older, retired jw's who have nothing else to do.. has this been your experience?

  It's because he discovers how high maintenance some of these JW women can be. Most of the pioneers™ I knew went on tropical vacations at least once a year - often twice a year. I didn't believe in wasting my hard earned money so stupidly. As a result most people thought that we were constantly in dire financial straits, and we were looked down upon for this by most in the congregation. I was even counselled by the elders for it.
