Welcome Pele 38!
Many of us are new too!
I have only known this site for a week!
Already I am happier and laughing with a lighter heart throughout the day!
There are contributors who are very articulate and brainy, then there are members who are .....shall I say "not".
I myself fall into the "well intended, but lightweight" in depth of insight category.
But all seem to be welcome.
Almost an unconditionally loving brotherhood! Ha!

Allow myself to introduce....myself
by pele38 ini must say, i never thought that i would see the day when i would find a site about disillusioned (mostly) jehovah's witnesses, but low and behold...one truly exists.
first let me start off by saying thank you to the creators of this site, and i'll have you know that i've been lurking for several days now and i am just finding the time to finally log on.
i've been a member of the borg for over 20 years now, been baptised for about 14 of those years and now i find myself in the most unusual of places.

I remember years ago a witness woman was going through some very troubled times personally. Her father died. Then her son came down with cancer and died. Then her youngest daughter came down with Turret's Syndrome and her oldest unwed daughter got pregnant and thumbed her nose at the borg.
She was close to having a nervous breakdown. She told the brothers she could not read or listen to any bad news. She could not even read the W & A. She related the story to me that the elder told her to read only the last paragraphs of every article because they always end on a paradisaic happy note!
I felt so sorry for her. How do you escape bad news when every talk at the KH and every issue of W & A carry dire articles about Satan's world and Armageddon?
Only after leaving the borg have I had the control over my life to focus on the good in this world.
There is plenty of beauty on the earth and healthy wholesome enjoyment and true brotherly love. -

Is it intuition, clairvoyence, or THE DEVIL?
by anewme inthis subject may be in the files.
my new mother-in-law is a truly lovely person.
i am a bit baffled though by her use of intuition to make all kinds of decisions.

Thankyou everyone who wrote in. I was so surprised by the comments about my mother in law.
You dont even know her personally but you were "guided" by your hearts to help me think of her kindly.
I am so new to thinking on my own w/o the borg.
This woman loves me so much. She and her son, my new husband, have been my only friends for 4 years now. They have showered me with more love than I ever felt from father, mother or siblings.
I suffer from so many held over programmed thoughts from the cult teachings and Bible Study.
I want to let go of all that. I want to be free to use my own head and heart in decision making.
Thankyou for your good counsel.
I'm just going to love her.
And I will ask her more about her beliefs. -

I'm new. This subject may be in the files.
My new mother-in-law is a truly lovely person. I am a bit baffled though by her use of intuition to make all kinds of decisions. Sometimes she claims "angel guides" have spoken to her. Other times she refers to "spirit guides" who have let her in on unknowable situations. She says she believes in Jesus, but also that he had a wife and kids on the side or something. I have ceased trying to reason with her using the scriptures.
My husband just shrugs and says he doesnt share her views and does not know what she is talking about.
She claims as a young child she had strong "gut feelings" about people and situations. She can tell if someone is a gods child or not she says. She feels all people and creatures have had past lives.
She will tell you who you were in your last life and before that.
Im tired of it. It all sounds absurd. We just put up with it and say nothing or sometimes laugh at the outrageous statements, then she kind of quiets down.
She doesnt read horoscopes or visit mediums or swing amulets over objects, none of that stuff.
Have any of you dealt with a relative who thinks they are in tune with the angels?
I am loathe to treat her like a looney bird. In many ways she is so astute and sharp and on the button about people.
I was just wondering what are your thoughts.
I love this woman.
Thanks.

New J.W. strategy? I need to vent !!!
by hubert insome of you know i have a daughter and son-in-law that is involved with the j.w.
cult.. this is because of the influence brought about from my daughters aunt, who is a full blown (brainwashed) j.w.
cult member, and her family, too.. my daughter always loved her aunt, even though she was in the cult, which is fine with us.

Hubert, I believe I was "open" to the witnessess because my dad was divorcing his second wife.
Our family was in turmoil. My own mother was dead. I was ignored and severely depressed from 17-18
If only my father had taken the time to reason with me about this organization. Before he died he told me he really feels responsible that he did not do anything to stop me. I guess he thought I would grow out of it. But instead I got more and more enmeshed and entangled in it.
Please take Check your Premises advice and read the book Influence: The Principles of Persuasion
and sit down with your daughter and at least try to reason with her.
Give her some defense mechanisms so she can fight off the subtle sticky web that her aunt is weaving around her mind and heart. -

What should I do about my brother??? I'm going insane.
by sonnyboy ini'm at my wit's end right about now.. my 24 year old brother is staying in my home as a roommate.
when i bought the house 5 years ago everything was fine; he helped with the housework, cut the grass, and was fair with the amount of 'house food' he'd consume.. time changes everything.
he now does nothing inside the house: no dishes, no vacuuming, no dusting, no anything.

The kind thing to do would be to look at your brother's problem in a medical light.
Alcoholism and depression are rampant among JW families.
First, cut the alcohol coming into the house. You may have to stop for awhile yourself.
This alone may help to improve his attitude and energy level.
If after a month the situation does not improve, take him to a doctor for counseling and evaluation for depression and maybe the doctor will prescribe some mood medication for him.
You should discuss these alternatives with your parents. They may be willing to help you in this regard. -

Porky?
by Low-Key Lysmith inin leu of all these threads lately about what attracts us to the opposite (or same) sex, i was wondering if any of y'all out there share my love for the ladies (or gentlemen, if in your case) to have a little "junk in the trunk" or "cushion for the pushin'"?
i like really voluptuous women.
not obese, mind you, but some chunkyness is okay by me.

I was fat as a child. Then I began dieting as a teenager and became a JW.
My first husband, an elder was as obsessed about leaness as I was. I remember the first gift he gave me when we began dating was a pair of Puma running shoes so we could go running together.
Even though I have maintained a trim figure I have always fought a little tummy fat.
My new husband loves my tummy fat! It blows me away! He likes a big butt too and points to gals with the perfect stick out butt. I am simply AMAZED!!!!
He says alot of guys in their hearts really like a meaty gal.
I am still blown away by this.
He downloaded and recorded the song "I like big butts"
I laughed my guts out!!!!!!
I just love men who LOVE REAL WOMEN!!! Those are the sexiest heterosexual men!! -

Why do/don't you believe in God
by LouBelle innow for all the scientists out there this is not a question of proof or anything along those lines.
for my part i choose to believe in a god because i honestly believe there is one (though i did start doubting for a little while) i've always felt that there was more to our existance on earth - and that doesn't stem from me wanting to live forever or as a spirit, as i don't even know if that will happen.
i also believe in him because many many times when i could not carry on, on my own strength, i managed to pulled through.

Excuse me, but I still believe in Jehovah God.
I feel like a teenager on the outs with her dad. -

What is your quirkiest quirk?
by damselfly ini, damselfly, can not knowingly eat the little squiggly, umbilical cord things in eggs.
i have to very carefully separate the whites from the yolk and remove the squiggly bits with a knife.
i get gaggy just thinking about them.

Does sleeping with dogs qualify as a quirk?
Literal dogs----under the covers?
When I first met my husband to be we had 3 dogs under the covers with us.
Now we have only two.
I find them comforting somehow.
