Firefly, I too feel very sorry for you on one hand, but also glad for you that the man is out of your life.
He is really damaged. From his youth he has not been allowed to be honest. Honesty will get you dfd in that cult. One cannot be honest with mom, dad, brother or sister or wife. It is no wonder he could not be honest with you. It seems unlikely he will be honest with his new girlfriend.
Poor thing.
Well, you cannot undo the damage of a lifetime spent in that unloving weird cult.
Better for you to lick your wounds and ready yourself for a new loving man.
Thankyou for sharing your heartfelt story with us. It only adds to the heap of sadness the Watchtower Cult is responsible for.

i don't understand this man
by firefly inthis is my first time on this forum, but i need some input on a really confusing situation and i thought that this would be the best place to get it.
this is a long story, but there is much that needs to be explained and i really need to get this off my chest.. in dec. of 2005 i was a regular at an 80's dance club.
i would go there on weekends not to meet or go home with anyone, but just to hang out with friends and dance (dancing is among my favorite of hobbies).

Doing Good Humane things for Other People- Why Jw's Won't Notice It
by flipper inone thing that always bothered me when i was a witness, was that the main thing you were admired for was how much time you got in the service each month, how many times you commented at meetings, whether you hung out with " spiritual " people, and your approval was based on how you were advancing in the faith based on your position, regular or auxilarry pioneer, ministerial servant or elder.
if you weren't any of those things, even if you did good to or for others, it was not noticed.
if joe publisher sitting in the corner went and mowed sister old ladies yard in 100 degree heat out of love it was not emphasized, because it didn't really fit in with the agenda the elders or governing body deems important as being for the advancement of kingdom interests.

Thats because it really is a BUSINESS not a Christian religion!
Think about it. When you are at work you are paid and praised for doing what you are paid for.
Are you praised for offering a customer a chair because they are feeling faint?
Are you praised for returning a $20 bill that fell out of a customer's wallet?
Are you given stars by your name for being kind to your work mates and peaceable with the boss?
Nope.
Being a thoughtful helpful Christian rarely gets the pat on the back from anyone except the sweet person you are helping.
You can knock yourself being a kind helpful person for years and years in that group, but one slip up and you are kicked to the road! -

by kwr inhttp://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/sfl-flbblackledge0824nbaug24,0,7357675,print.story.
when glenn blackledge violated his probation on super bowl sunday, he ran out of second chances.. .
police found him slumped over the wheel of his still-running truck in a coral springs parking lot, reeking of alcohol.. ---snip---.

I think I will chime in here and say that drinking and driving kills....and killers go to jail.
But all of us here on this website know what loneliness and unhappiness and misery that man experienced being part of a religion and family that failed him.
I feel sorry for everyone involved in that story.
I look forward to the day that the Watchtower Society crumbles as a business and false religion.
All of us continue to pay a price for ever having anything to do with that cult.

Irritable bowel syndrome and repressed emotions
by Gregor inaccording to a recent study, ibs is a condition that appears to be directly affected by personal circumstances that cause frustration and repressed emotions.
the example given was of women who live under an authoritarian husband and are not allowed to express their feelings.
i have a jw aunt who has suffered horribly from this miserable condition for years.

I believe what you are saying is true.
I had terrible problems in that dept myself while a witness, but have experienced a total relief of symptoms since fleeing the cult six years ago.
The repression and psychological imprisonment is strong in the Watchtower Cult and affects the very core of the body and mind and soul. -

Moshe visits a KH today- did he walk out or was he thrown out?
by moshe ini walked in about 10 minutes prior to the start of the meeting- i sure looked like an unusual visitor wearing my best jeans a golf shirt and my yarmulke.. the first brother who approached me was an slighly built late middle age guy- he gave me a big hello and extended his hand.
i pulled out my 'end of false religion tract' and showed it to him.
"did you put this in my door?

Do you embellish on here...change names or situations to...
by FreedomFrog inavoid parents/friends/elders finding out who or what the situation is?.
do you feel bad for "lying" to ones on here to protect who you really are?.
.

On this same subject of lying.........I've been thinking lately of changing my "story"....to outsiders anyway. Im tired of the same old story to answer new friends who ask where I was during the 70s and 80s and who I married and what I did with my time and life all these years.
I plan to move soon and get a new job. This will be my opportunity to fine tune the new "story".
I am planning to tell a real heart breaker that will paint me as a courageous survivor. Yeah, it will be good. I just have to go over it and over it and get the names of my five family members who died in the plane crash correct. That I was marooned on the island for 35 years alone until I was found by a passing ship. That accounts for my lack of job experience and schooling and why I dont know much about the 70s 80s or 90s.
I cant keep telling people the same old stupid story that I willingly joined the Jehoobers and gave up a career and income to sell Wacktowers door to door!!!!! And I did it for 35 years like an idiot!!! -

Here I dont embellish. With you I have only spoken the truth.
But there was this one website, a dieters website, I admit to lying my head off after awhile.
Before I left the site I told everyone how my diet was working and how many thousands of pounds I had lost and how my life had become fabulous and exciting because of it. -

Would you live your life differently, if you new what happens after death?
by passive suicide inso i had a thought today, that may spark some interesting conversation......
if you were able to die.....totally, and utterly dead.and see what there really is for your own eyes/soul after death......not what the bible says, not what your mom, dad, preacher, rabbi, faithful and discreet slave, conscience ...whatever says will happen....but what really happens......( who can say for sure they know by the way), and then somehow you were brought back,
would you live your life differently?
-
anewme
Oh yes! I think death is awful and life is over. I really dont place much hope that people are conscious at all after death. We really should rejoice and beam for joy to be alive today.
And cherish all the ones we love too.
Be happy while you are alive under the sun.
