Wanted: Outrageous WT Qotes

i post regularly in an international web-based group regarding the sport i do.

one of the group members is a jw and always signs his posts with: "that people may know that you, whose name is jehovah, you alone are the most high over all the earth.

i kindly asked him three times to stop his preaching in our sports forum but he persists.

One night stands

i was really against them and said i never would again.

I have had a few of them in my dim and distant past, but I wouldn't bother nowadays.

They are potentially dangerous anyway, so I think you would have to know a bit about
the person before agreeing to go on one, and make a friend aware of what you were
doing and where you are going, just in case.

Proud of my son!

a witness girl that he knew in pre-primary school when he was a bout 5yrs old asked him why she didn't see him at the meetings anymore.

they were not in the same primary school and he is now in high school.

he answered her that he will never go to the meetings again cause it's a load of rubbish.

Tomorrow is my Master's Defense (wish me luck)

tomorrow at 2:45 arizona time i present/defend my master's research to basically the entire department (anthropology...all the 'sub-disciplines'...socio/cultural, physical and archaeology).

they've changed things a bit in the program so now all grad students who are completing their ma in any given year present on the same day in one big "ma-athon," so *everybody*...all the faculty and many of the students...will be there (defenses used to have a much smaller audience and rarely had people from more than your own sub-disc).. i'm not as nervous as i could be...i've done several different (smaller) presentations of my research both on campus at brown-bags and on-campus grad student conferences and at 2 national meetings, so i've had lots of practice.. the only bad thing is, out of a bunch of students the whole day, i'm the very.

here's to hoping they're ready to leave and *not* that, since there's nobody speaking after me, they can grill me for as long as they want .

Reasons its a cult...

hey folks,.

was just on the phone with a friend of mine who is a jw, and we were talking about something and then cults came up.

anyways, i wont type our convo, but i remember looking at a post where someone had 14 examples of what defines a cult, i looked high and low and cannot find that list, so im hoping someone has it and can post it for me.

Hi Matt,

Although many ex jws, and even some current ones, acknowledge the cult-like
nature of the watchtower, getting the average jw to see his religion as a cult is
not easy.

The truth is, no one actually joins a cult. People who join religious groups tend
to do so because they feel they are helping themselves, and often these groups
provide instant friends, instant family and instant purpose in life, which many today
are seeking. No one deliberately joins a group that has the potential to cause them
harm, that's something they find out later on. Your jw friend didn't see becoming a
jw as joining a cult, and it might be difficult for him to recognise the wtbts as a cult
now, unless he is having doubts.

You just can't prove to jws that they are in a cult, whatever evidence you produce.
They have to come to that realisation on their own, usually some time after they have
quit the organisation.

i was prompted to think further about this today when i was reading the following in a book called "headhunters":.

"e-mails are a love of mine.

i prefer them to communicating by word of mouth.

atrocities happen all the time.

student mass murders, genocides, the ozone layer, the environment------you name it----it all points to what witnesses assert as proof that this means we're living in the "last days of the last days".

how would you respond to such ones?.

I agree, Min, but that simpleton would have to be capable of the power of
independent thought. How many jws do you know who are capable of that?
The ones that acquire that skill rarely stay jws for very long.

I just registered as a blood donor!

Giving blood is something I have considered, as it was such a no no while I
was a jw. I just haven't got around to sorting it out, and I'm a bit too busy
at the moment to do so, but I will one day.

The last few months I went to meetings, I no longer believed the bullshit coming from the platform
and in the publications. I hung around for a while to pi$$ the elders off a little, by not going on the
ministry and turning in reports with 0 hours etc on them. I also hoped to lure a few more out of the
org.

"Jehovah's Witnesses are the fastest growing religion in America."

I'd be tempted to ask for statistics to back that assertion up. Then again, maybe they still have
plenty of kids of jws to blackmail into baptism. That seems to account for a lot of their growth
these days
