w79 4/1 31 • Is Jesus the "mediator" only for anointed Christians? The term "mediator" occurs just six times in the Christian Greek Scriptures and Scripturally is always used regarding a formal covenant.According to the watchtower, 1 Timothy 2:5 doesn't mean what it says.Moses was the "mediator" of the Law covenant made between God and the nation of Israel. (Gal. 3:19, 20) Christ, though, is the "mediator of a new covenant" between Jehovah and spiritual Israel, the "Israel of God" that will serve as kings and priests in heaven with Jesus. (Heb. 8:6; 9:15; 12:24; Gal. 6:16) At a time when God was selecting those to be taken into that new covenant, the apostle Paul wrote that Christ was the "one mediator between God and men." (1 Tim. 2:5) Reasonably Paul was here using the word "mediator" in the same way he did the other five times, which occurred before the writing of 1 Timothy 2:5, referring to those then being taken into the new covenant for which Christ is "mediator." So in this strict Biblical sense Jesus is the "mediator" only for anointed Christians.
The new covenant will terminate with the glorification of the remnant who are today in that covenant mediated by Christ. The "great crowd" of "other sheep" that is forming today is not in that new covenant. However, by their associating with the "little flock" of those yet in that covenant they come under benefits that flow from that new covenant. During the millennium Jesus Christ will be their king, high priest and judge. For more detailed information, see Aid to Bible Understanding, pages 1129 and 1130 under "Mediator"; also God’s "Eternal Purpose" Now Triumphing for Man’s Good, page 160, paragraph 10; also The Watchtower issues of February 15, 1966, pages 105 through 123; November 15, 1972, pages 685 and 686, under the subheading "Leading the Way to a New Covenant"; and April 1, 1973, pages 198 and 199, under the subheading "The New Covenant."

Jesus as a Mediator
by I-follow-the-narrow-path ini know that jesus is a mediator... it is written in the bible.
i have never heard the jws tell me that he wasn't.
it is written in my bible (in the jw bible), so if they do deny that jesus is a mediator-- .

Mary Magdalene
by I-follow-the-narrow-path inif it was proven that jesus, in fact, has a bloodline.
what do you think this will do to religions?
and is it at all possible to prove that mary magdalene and jesus had an intimate relationship?

I saw the movie this weekend and it was pretty bad. The action was contrived and the dialogue was horrible.

Reification of the "cult" idea
by logansrun insometimes i must confess bewilderment at peoples talk of cults: i.e.
comments like well, the witnesses display all the characteristics of a cult as noted by [insert anti-cult website here].
has it occurred to anyone that the idea of a cult is a human invention, indeed a very peculiar modern human construct in comparison with the rest of social history?

I would say the a cult is defined as such because it is a construct that takes advantage of human psychology to encourage people to engage in self-destructive behavior. I'm a believer in personal responsibility, so ultimately the cult victim is to blame for his or her own choices. However, those who understand human psychology well enough (cult leaders) to exploit people's emotions to a point that is destructive to the member, shares some responsibility. To dismiss the term "cult" as a social construct ignores the reality of the shared characteristics of organizations that are harmful to the individual's person and psyche.

Leaving Watchtower vs. coming out of the closet
by jstalin inas some or most of you may know, i'm gay, and i've recently been coming out of the closet after being repressed most of my life.
well, as i read a number of the testimonials here about leaving the watchtower, it strikes me how familiar the feelings of those who are contemplating leaving are so similar to mine in coming out.
the fear of what people will think, how it will affect lives, the change in life path, disappointment of famliy members, the sense of freedom after it's been done, etc.

'm going to build a packed with all kinds of information and research on the WTS. Anything you guys think is exceptional to add would be greatly appreciated. Tuesday I'm going to let him know I want to talk, so I'll keep everyone up on the details this week.
Drew- what do you think that's going to accomplish? Do you really feel that you need to explain yourself to someone who, in the end, won't give a crap about you? They still have a hold over you. Attempting to explain everything you feel is really nothing more than an attempt, on your part, at getting them to see the light. But, we all know that won't happen. If I were you I'd just make a simple statement and walk out: "I don't believe the Watchtower is god's organization on Earth and I have no interest in putting my life at the mercy of the Watchtower's minions."

PROCESS: I don't belong in this world....yet.
by freedomlover ini have been reading a book my hubby recommended to me- man's search for meaning - by viktor frankl.
very good book.
he is a survivor of nazi concentration camps and it's not just another grisly tale of horrors of cc life.

I've read Frankl's book as well. Althought I can't relate to his experience, I think that his advice on finding something that gives your life meaning is very important. Friends (real friends, not JW "friends") are one of the great sources of inspiration in life for me - someone to share the human experience with is essential to living a happy life.
