I've read some of his stuff. It justs screams evil. If you read Russell and then read Rutherford, you can see where things went down the toilet.

Why are EX-JW's and JW's in doubt(faders) so ''afraid" of the elders?
by booker-t ini have been out for years now but i still tremble alittle when i run into an elder at the store or run into an elder on the street and my post question certainly applies to me as well but why do i still have fear of jw's elders?
i have been da'd for so many years but that fear still comes up.
and reading alot of the post here i still see ex-jw's and jw's faders living a pretended jw life or pretending to be happy when they are miserable in the wt.

PTSD from exposure to a high control group. It is like a dog or a child that is abused. Anytime someone moves thier hand quickly they freak even if removed from the abusive situation.

anti DoorKnocking / neo Green River Act in New England?
by james_woods ini saw a short piece last night on an activist group in a little town in (i believe) connecticut -.
they were trying to enact local legislation to limit door knocking.
the issue was not the jws - it was about one of those general magazine salespeople who got into some elderly ladies house and robbed & murdered her a year or two back.

Thankfully, I live in a private community so the only ones who have come by are the JW's and the boyscout that lives a couple doors down from me in the community.

I understand the feeling and I think once you have been a smoker you fall back a few/many times in your life. I know for me life tragedies tend to send me to smoke and for some reason I often cheat during my period(sometimes with the pain i think that is a life tradegy). I let myself have these little falls and then make sure I quit immediatly after. I just remember I used to smoke a pack a day and now I do far better than that. I also started exercising when I quit. I know I feel yucky when I exercise after smoking this motivates me to get right back in line after a fall. Overall, I remind myself over and over again I am only human, mistakes do happen and just do the best I can. I had this attitude before I was involved with the Witnesses and then they took that away. I got sick from the pressure of trying to be little miss perfect all time and keeping up with other people. Now I don't try to keep up with the Jones(in anyway). I just do what I can do, except the grace that faith in God through Christ has given me and do the best I can. Forgiving starts with yourself. You will quit again when you are ready. I think your husband will understand.

Talk Prayer
by under_believer insomeone posted something in another thread about how prayer is often used to summarize the content of the meeting.
this is absolutely true and is something that always has really bothered me about witness meetings.
jws often use the opening or closing prayer to "teach" the congregation.

It bothered me when they wouldn't ask for the Father to overrule anything that was said in error showing true lack of humility

The only arrangement in the Church was for elders/minsters(or whatever you want to translate them to) and they were there to upbuild and serve - not to dominate and rule. Think about the time period, the travel available. There were not any jets or fed fex. Paul stopped by a couple times and that was it. These congregation were on their own.

THe gum is easy thing to transition to but then you have to get off the gum which can take a while but is better for you than smoking

They don't use the word Church so they can cover up bible truths
Heb 12:23 : tells us the general assembly(great crowd) are in heaven with the Church(Little Flock) and the Ancient worthies are on the earth and Christ is calling to mankind(millenium picture)
THe Church is the 144,000, the only place for Christians to run in this age is for one of those slots. There is not an earthly call until after this age ends. The ones that run and are not overcomers will be part of the great crowd but this is a heavenly class not an earthly class.

The great pyramid
by OneLord inmost people would consider it very wacky to connect the pyramid of gizah with the bible.
russell's claim was that the pyramid, the 1.st wonder of the world, was a witness down the ages containing god's plan.
the teachings and ideas on this seem to be so complex, that few people would spend / waste the time required to study these things.

You can look at the two groups today Jehovah Witness who followed Rutherford or the Bible Students that followed Russell. The Bible Students are small but don't have the problems witnesses do. Women are not left in abusive relationship, child abuse is not covered up. They do have an organization or a fortune to protect. They operate in small groups believe all will be offered a fair and full chance at salvation during Christ's reign. Plus, pretty much all Bible Student groups do straight Bible Studies chapter by chapter besides reading the volumnes. They openly use concordance and literal bibles. The Elder body is elected every year by the members so there is less of a chance of corruption. All decisions are made by a vote of members not just whether its ok to purchase a new microphone. There is no secret funds all spending is laid out in detailed and given to each member. They don't throw someone out for disagree on a prophetic point or for disagreeing with Russell. They don't cover up his mistakes.
