The Kingdom Hall
by TheLiberator ini know i have mentioned this on other posts.
as a born-in, i was obsessed with the watchtower.
it was god's organization.

After I left, I told myself the same thing ... I would never step foot in a Kingdom Hall, but I did ... for a funeral. And I regretted it. The brother read the newspaper obituary word for word, and then preached about "paradise" for 30 minutes. What a dishonor to the person that died and a complete waste of my time!
On a side note ... I WAS LOCKED IN A DARK KINGDOM HALL! When I was 3 years old, my family turned off the lights, locked the doors, and hopped in the car to drive home. (My dad was an elder and we were often the last to lock up and leave.) Even my 2 sisters sitting in the back seat didn't notice they forgot me. How does that happen? I have no idea! I don't think they got very far before somebody realized it. My mom said when they came back, they could see Kingdom Hall door moving in and out because I was on the other side beating on it so hard. It was pretty traumatic. I think it was the first sign that being a JW was not for me.

There are several decent JWs that I miss seeing (by their choice, not mine). I do not miss any of their talks. -

The love bombing is a strong force. Resist the dark side. The more the miss, the better you'll feel. -

Model Jw family?
by MrTheocratic ini would like to get the opinion of those on this community.
does serving as an elder make one a bad family man.
with all the demands placed on those serving... how can one make time for family life?

I can guarantee you that our "model family" ... elder father, pioneer mother ... was completely phony. Maybe they are not all that way, but mine definitely was.
In order to be an elder, I think you have to be willing to sell a piece of your soul. Becoming an elder changes a person. When they announced at the Kingdom Hall that they appointed my brother in law an elder, everybody else clapped and congratulated him, and I sat there and cried. I really liked him.

Any here who didn't rebel as a teenager and were a goody two shoes instead?
by purrpurr inwhen i was a teenager in the borg i was a dyed in the wool, goody two shoes, squeaky clean,"spiritual " sister.
alot of my peers around me were rebelling and going off the rails but not me.
i was constantly praised for this and even felt a little smug about it ha!.

Yep! Completely a goody two shoes until I was 16. I even regular pioneered for a year when I was 14. I was the youngest one in my pioneer school.
The shit hit the fan at home with my abusive father when I was 16. My mom FINALLY decided she was strong enough to escape from his abuse, and the elders decided to protect him, rather than us. That's when I saw them for who they were and never wanted to be a part of them again.

You would think it would be a wake up call to her when she looked around and realized she was the only one.
I would have gone to the bathroom to "put on my swimsuit" and slipped out the backdoor!
