It absolutely serves American interests. Cults demand loyalty and often it is loyalty that would otherwise go to the government. Freedom to join cults breaks a governments control over individuals. It is cults today, democratic parties tomorrow.

Apology of cults
by Narkissos incharles(chasson)' thread about alain garay made me think, more generally, about what we often perceive (rightly or wrongly) as an apology of cults under the banner of "freedom of worship".. it seems only natural that cult members, officials and their attorneys should take such a stance; it is also understandable that communities which have similar interests, like small churches who tend to see anti-cultic policy as a potential threat to their own existence, support them to an extent.
so we have seen, in france, the protestant federation criticising the heavy taxation of jws by the fiscal administration.. i wonder about the motivations of some other voices joining in the chorus.
i suspect they may do so for very different, even antagonistic reasons.. one noteworthy example is the us department of state, whose yearly report on freedom of worship regularly criticises the governmental attempts to control cult activity in other countries (notably, in the eu, france, germany or belgium).

non-denom bible study groups
by TheListener inis there any such thing as a church or group that gathers together to study the bible and share information without ramming it down everyone's throad and trying to disfellowship anyone who doesn't agree?.
i'd love to eventually attend a bible study group where an exchange of ideas can be had without everyone getting offended or defensive.
sort of like here, but different.

When you were a witness, did you ever wonder where the GOOD witnesses were?
by BizzyBee ini grew up in the borg and can remember feeling a disconnect with the portrayal of witness behavior in the literature and what i actually experienced.
the stories from the yearbook about people wanting to study with witnesses "thirsty for knowledge of the truth" were so different from the responses i got in the fs, where people just seemed annoyed.
the pictures of happy folk and families of all colors looking toward some ray of light, united in the love for jehoober and each other, did not square with what was going on in my congo.

I don't go to meetings but me wify does. So I still go to JW parties with her. They are the wildest parties ever. First the goodie goodie come and then the cool ones, us included, drift in. The goodie goodies leave between 9:00 and 10:00 and then things get crazy. Booze, dancing, flirting loud tunes, swearing. Last time a dub passed out and they painted his face with make up. I wish I had my camcorder. I wanted to wake him and ask him for a Bible study. You know ask him to explain how the WTS arrived at 607 as the date for the fall of jerusalem and the begining of the gentile times and shit like that. I missed the skinny dipping and am pissed at the drunken driving, they are louder and drunker than my non jw friends. I think it is because they suppress themselves during so much of their time that when they are in a protected environment they let it all go.
I always think about calling this certain prick elder and telling him he really should stop by just to see the look on everyones faces.

ANOTHER CRAZY JW!!!
by DirtyFace inwell here is another recently news article about a crazed jehovah's witness.
this is becoming more frequent these days... they are looking for a faster way to send their loved ones to "paradise".
purely satanical.. .

The guy wasn't a witness. The witnesses do have problems though and the Bible is full of examples of human sacrifice, Jesus being the foremost.

New shLiGHt ?
by sinis inwell with all the new light threads i started to wonder, is there even one example in the bible of new light?
i've looked and looked but it seems that i can't find anything.
i know certain principles or guidelines were expounded on from the ot to the nt, but you don't hear jesus or the apostles saying adultry is: ok, forbidden, ok, forbidden, etc.. besides the vague scripture the jw's pull out of psalms (i think) on new light are there any other bible examples?

It is a flawed concept. In order to have new light you need old light. This is admitting that what you once held to be a truth was a falsehood. If old light is false it could never have been true.
Example: Old Light-Jesus presence began in 1874
New Light- Jesus presence began in 1914
If Jesus came in 1914 then he did not come in 1874 so 1874 was never light, it was false.(so is 1914)
That is why you don't see new light/old light in the Bible. The Fathers who put together the canon only chose books that were in relative agreement. The writers did not correct each other so as to suggest that what one taught was false.

BIG LIE IN THE BIBLE!
by Gill ingod makes the sun shine and the rain fall on the righteous and the unrighteous!.
that's what it says in the bible, (paraphrased to more or less).
matthew 5 :45. so, that being the case, why does he not make it rain in drought stricken areas?.

If the meaning is God is fair then that is a lie too.

They will have the Great Crowd running the org, It will be thru the annointed who are in heaven. There currently is heaven to earth communication and group management ongoing. Read the revelation book about the actions of the annointed during the last days, some are in heaven and some on earth. It will be easy for them to switch to GC overseeeing earthly affairs. The rank and file will accept it as long as they have one or two scriptures they can cite.

Thanks to me everyone in my old hall knows. It is the public reason why I left. I still meet JWs who don't know though. Even though it is true, it is so shocking to JWs that elders counsel JWs not to tell other ones. Some congregations have spoke about the issue openly, of course without all the facts.

Doesn't Surprise me at ALL!!!

Please, the JWs are like any other religion in that some of their members will commit crimes like murder and this will be reported in the media. Now if you could show that JW doctrine endorses slicing up your family or that JWs have the highest percent of family hackers amongst their members, then you have a point. For now I see this as welcome proof that there is nothing special going on at the WTS. They are just like everyone else.

I'm going in 2.5 hours. Why? Its my wifes religion and she would like me too. The WTS means nothing to me. I don't like them and I don't hate them. I'm not going to let them come between my wife and I. I see it as no more than a Catholic husband going to a Jewish event for his wife, which happens all the time.
I might bring some WT money though.
