has anyone read the book by greg stafford in defence of jehovah's witnesses?
care to give a book review?
The story I remember Greg trying to fob off on the gullible, was that he had been told by the Society to stop debating with apostates, so he was trying to set up a disguise as this new guy, TravisJ45, in order to continue the debating without being "busted." We were supposed to know that TravisJ was him, but the society would not know.
Um... yeah. Yeah. That makes major sense, Greg. Yeah, buddy.

Hey, Six, I take it you missed out on the infamous scene on H2O where Greg Stafford self-destructed before all onlookers?
He had an established screen name, and everybody knew who he was. He had been debating with AlanF and some of the otherH2O regulars. Then one day he logged on pretending to be somebody else, and posted a message in which he claimed that Greg Stafford's reason and logic had devastated the opposition and that he (the anonymous new poster) was greatly impressed by his delivery style and intellect, or something like that.
Poor Greg failed to notice that the H2O Administrator had edited the forum code so that a user's login screen name appeared in the header of his post. So Greg had logged in as himself, thinking he could post anonymously and no one would ever know the difference. His narcissistic "anonymous" post had his well-known screen name emblazoned across the top of it.
To make matters worse, the H2O administrator saw what had happened and deleted the post. Normally, when a post was deleted, it went into a holding area where it could be reviewed by the curious, but in this case it was even deleted from the holding area. Why? The speculation was that this was done to hide Greg's very public gaffe, because H2O administration was sympathetic to reform rather than demolition, and were supportive of Greg and his views. It seems that, in harmony with their leaders the self-dubbed FDS, they had rated expediency above honesty.
Fortunately, several board regulars had seen the post before it was deleted, and a great furor arose over it. Greg Stafford lost, for all time, any dignity and respect he might ever have had from everyone who knew about those events.
Maybe someone with a better memory, or with some of the archived posts from that episode, can fill in more details.

i know what it is to be popular.
well, to be totally honest, i know what it is to be unpopular, and i know that it feels really bad.
i therefore assume that being popular would feel really good!
What I know about popular, I learned from a valley girl:
"It's important to be popular, because if you aren't, people won't like you."

no matter how you think you are ready for such an eventuality, it still remains stressful when it finally does happen.. until last friday, i worked as a systems engineer for a large canadian telecom equipment manufacturer that has been laying off thousands of employees.
their target was 30,000 and they are almost there.
i dont know, but maybe my number was 25,879...or something.. anyone out there works or used to work for this company?
Things are pretty tense here in Dallas, too. Everybody in my department is heaving sighs of relief that they didn't go with a dot-com a year or two back.

i posted some questions a while ago about my wife, and now i'm lost.
i put together a 200 page exposition on how the governing body are false witnesses using only watchtower literature (scans and the cd) and showing how they claim to be the salvation and that people shouldn't think for themselves, showed it to my wife, and she simply told me that she knew all those things and that if she could she would divorce me.
it's all in the bible.. the weird thing is though, the next morning, she pretended like things are fine.
I suggest you begin battening down your personal hatches. Secure your most precious belongings, speak to legal counsel about child custody, etc. I don't like to be discouraging, man, but this behavior sounds ominous.

i would like some opinions on a situation that seems to be arising in my family.. since my mother is now a widow, and her income will be much less, she may not be able to afford to stay where she is, even with the financial assistance she gets from the family.
so we have talked about her moving in with us.
the problem is, my father, her ex husband lives with us too.
Sounds like a good plan, if you're for it. If your mom likes the idea, and your dad's okay with it, who gives a (insert reference to intercourse in midair, or other term if preferable) what anybody else thinks?

"Not unless fired upon, suh... not unless fired upon."
the following is the first-draft of a letter i would like to send to the society.
any and all suggestions would be appreciated.
(don't worry, i've developed a thick-skin.
Well done, sis. Clear and straightforward. In the interest of being squeeky clean and lemony fresh, I will make a couple of pedantic observations:
Notice how Jesus calls it, “your own law”, meaning it did not apply to Christians.
Well... there weren't any Christians yet, when he said that. In fact, as a Jew he was under the law himself.
And...
and is part of the authority grated to “Caesar” to deal with.
Likely you meant "grated" to be "granted."

do you believe that humans are capable of complete sexual monogamy?.
i believe 100% emotional monogamy is obtainable, but i'm not sure about sexual monogamy.
does gender figure into the equation?
I doubt it. I brought this up once before, and it generated an interesting thread. You might also be interested in the observations made by Anne Morrow Lindbergh in her book, Gift from the Sea. The references are in the starting post of this old thread.
