Englishman,
Are you suggesting that the songbook should be polluted with elements of this commercialistic system of things under Satan's control???
That would certainly be a hairy situation!

to the average witness, any discord in the world inspires thoughts.
that armageddon is near.
yet, there is a better explanation than.
I think such a view is too optimistic. It presumes The Triumph of Capitalism in more than one sense. Socialist philosophies will continue to present themselves in one form or another in most governments around the world--even if not in the United States. And other philosophies dissenting against the inequities imposed by globalization in its current form will also be a force to be reckoned with. Just because things are comfortable in North America and Western Europe doesn't mean we are on the threshold of the End of History. That was an outlook better suited to 1991 than 2001.

db,
I like yours as well, particularly the 1950 and 1979 references to put the whole thing in context.

Song Number 128
GROW MORE--AS THE NAZIRITES DID
Nazirites--O can we be like them?
Can we look like them today?
They had really lo-o-ong hair
In a unique, special way.
Analyze! Let's give it attention.
Let's ignore the apostle Paul.
Can we all sport spir'tual mullets
Before we end up bald?
Nazirites--Their lifestyle was simple.
Self-denial was their role.
They would never visit the barber.
Could we too have such a goal?
Though accepting certain restrictions,
They were hipper than hippies now.
All, not just our Christian sisters,
Should have the hair part down.
Nazirites--They truly were different.
Why, they had a crowning sign.
Nowadays it's known as dandruff;
Back then nobody would mind.
So today, as God's fellow workers
Dry and itchy our scalps we'll make.
May Jehovah bless our efforts,
Setting our scalps aflake.
Nazirites--They set an example.
Care they took with lengthiness.
Truly hirsute, let us be like them;
Their hair our God e'er did bless.
Cut your costs and trust in Jehovah:
Let your lovely locks remain.
If we manage not to wig out,
Deep-rooted joy we'll gain.
brothers and sisters, let's rise now and join in the singing of song number 24, "a part of the world.
" it's loosely based on john 17:16.. a part of the world.
although god once set us apart,.
Seeker,
Uplifting sentiments indeed! I like the "circus hoops."
At this rate, we'll soon have the whole songbook rewritten! We're 1/112.5th of the way already. ;)

An NGO is a Non-Governmental Organization.
According to the definition used by the United Nations (UN), NGOs operate on a non-profit basis, perform humanitarian work and advocate various causes with governments.
More than 1,500 NGOs have voluntarily applied to cooperate with the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the UN.
In order for the UN to accept an application, an NGO must agree to build support for the UN and to disseminate information about it to their members.
The Watchtower Society voluntarily applied to cooperate with the DPI of the UN in 1991. The application was successful.
The contact person listed on the application was Lloyd Barry, a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses.
For many years, the Watchtower Society has identified the UN as the "scarlet-colored wild beast" and "the disgusting thing" of Bible prophecy.
The Watchtower Society has repeatedly stated that the UN blasphemes by setting itself up as mankind's best hope for world peace rather than promoting God's Kingdom.
The Watchtower Society has repeatedly condemned religions that cooperate with the UN, identifying them as "Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and the disgusting things of the earth."
Since 1991, the Watchtower Society has never informed Jehovah's Witnesses about its status as a UN NGO.
Since 1991, the Watchtower Society has published a wide range of articles in its journals, The Watchtower and Awake!, disseminating information about the activities of the UN.
A description of the responsibilities of UN NGOs can be found at this Web address:

A list of UN NGOs, including the Watchtower Society, can be found at this Web address:

Some other UN NGOs include the Salvation Army, the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, and the World Muslim Congress.

the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.
here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.
though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.
Harold King was always a little strange after he came back from China. He really didn't like to be around people much anymore and talked a lot to himself. All of which is perfectly understandable in light of his long confinement.

A PART OF THE WORLD
Although God once set us apart,
Lloyd Barry had a change of heart.
A part of the UN are we;
Since '91 we chose to be.
All worldly trends we used to avoid,
But with the harlot we're now employed.
From beastly things we don't abstain;
We're joining in so we'll remain.
The UN's friendship we cultivate,
Just one more thing God tolerates.
Yes, persecution we expect,
But the UN will us protect.
So we'll sit back and wait for new light;
The faithful slave must have this one right.
We'll publish nice things in Awake!,
And of UN care we'll partake.
following the link given by kent,.
i have several observation to make:.
(from the link : http://www.un.org/moreinfo/ngolink/brochure.htm).
"Yes, Brother Elder, I appreciate your concerns. But in my personal opinion, voting in this election won't make me 'part of the world.' I don't think that it will interfere with my duties as a spiritual ambassador if I vote for someone to care for temporal affairs in the period before Christ takes control of the earth. I am prepared to shoulder partial responsibility for the actions of the candidate I vote for. I'm not going to be dogmatic about how great my choice is or encourage others in the congregation to vote the same way, so there's no need to worry that my voting will affect the unity of the congregation. And when I go door to door, I won't discuss who I voted for with the householders, but if asked, I'll tell them that I made a personal decision and I'd like to keep that decision personal. I'm glad we were able to talk this over, Brother Elder, and I have no problem with whether you personally choose to vote or not. See you at the meeting tomorrow--wasn't that an excellent Watchtower study about the Christian view of the United Nations?"
