I think it's a given that the GB pray before their meetings/discussions.
Have u read Ray Franz's books?
i have always wondered how seriously they took this dispensing doctrine thing.
do they all get together and actually pray or just have meetings?
ex- bethelites say they wrote doctrinal articles for the watchtower or awake.

my experience since leaving the jw's, knowing certain ones who still have contact, is that many jw's in good standing have done, or are doing things that could merit expulsion.
celebrating new year.
agreeing to blood transfusion.
I've never met a JW that didn't bend the rules a bit here and there, or who didn't have one or two doubts about something taught by the Society.
has communism really fallen?
that doesn't seem to be the case.
china a country that contains a fifth of the world's population is the new motherland of communism, after russia went capitalistic (or so it seems), there are several other communist countries like vietnam, cuba, many ex soviet states, and there are powerful communist sympathisers elsewhere in burma, south africa, brazil, venezuela etc.
Fascism is alive and well too. Just look at the Republicans and the neocons behind it.
silent watcher made reference to a theory called "sunk cost fallacy.
" i had not heard of this term, but when i googled, i did get a reference to the very familiar concorde theory.
if you are not familiar with either, here is a primer.
Very interesting. I'd say there indeed is a kind of 'sunk-cost' psychology for why many JW's stay in, mainly the older ones. I was the same, sometimes thinking "but if I leave with my luck Armageddon will come straight after". It's the same with persons who spend years and years wasting money on lotto tickets, they think "I bet my numbers will come up the week I stop buying them".
It's pretty much the psychology the Society's uses in the Live Forever book in the illustration about a road-map and how a person who has been driving for a long time the wrong way can't bear having to go all the way back, even when shown on their own map how off track they are.
during your time as jws were there times that you were in need for some help from the jw brotherhood but felt let down because no one cared to help you?
did you feel resentful and began to suspect that this org is heartless and hypocritical?
Yep, totally. Most elders are useless. Ezekiel 34 seems to sum them up.
.
ah, i am 17 and my mum is just 40.. she hasn't planned for her pension, she won't dedicate to a proper job or anything though i am trying to push her into anything.. the thing is, i don't just want her out of her faith, i want her to have a future where she can live and retire, she can't work forever and what if she got sick?.
ah, it drives me crazy what the witnesses do, maybe one day she might wake up, get angry with the wbt society and sue them!
Working is overrated. www.anxietyculture.com
Lack of love. Find more love in your life. Reach out for it like your life depends on it, surround yourself in it, live by it.
just finished talking on the phone with my mom.
she filled me in with the latest about my old jw acquaintances from before i was df.
good.
deleted. I thought u were a guy.
hi guys.
my brother told me that his friends grandfather died and that the jw family members are upset that he left his house to his grandson who is df'd.
for the last few years the grandson took him to all his doctor appointments and took him grocery shopping.
Makes a refreshing change from the Society's current policy of trying to induce persons to leave all their property to the Society in the will. They publish an annual article telling oldies how they can deprive their children of their inheritance by instead leaving it to the Watchtower Society, which already has millions upon millions stashed away in managed funds accounts, not to say the billions in prime real estate.
the watchtower is failing in it's stated purpose contained on the inside cover of every issue.
"it keeps watch on world events as these fulfill bible prophecy".
when was the last time you read an article that discussed current world events and how they are related to bible prophecy?

Really? When was the last time you read an article that discussed current world events and how they are related to bible prophecy? Instead the only thing they have to say are broad, general comments about wars, famines, etc to say that we are in the last days. When does the Watchtower ever talk about the Iraq War, North Korea, Al Qaeda, the Iran situation, Russia, China, American imperialism and the oil-agenda, globalism, etc, and how all these things may be related to bible prophecy? Instead their is a palpable wimpiness, timidity, hush-hush feel about the magazines these days. They are afraid to go out on a limb anymore, other than dishing up the same old general 'the end is at hand' crap. Other religious journals and websites have a lot more to say about current world events than the Watchtower Society.
"It comforts all peoples with the good news that God's Kingdom will soon destroy those who oppress their fellowmen and that it will turn the earth into a paradise."
Really? The truth is that the Watchtower teaches that 'all peoples' will in fact be exterminated, slaughtered at Armageddon, like pesky roaches or rats infesting a house. The 'good news' that it offers as comfort to all the peoples of the earth is one of a holocaustic 'final solution' where God will destroy 99% of them. It will be an 'ethnic cleansing' the likes of which planet earth has never seen before.
