The thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think. I honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-JW sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests. The Watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others. I'm certain that many posters on this site are, quite frankly, psychologically incapable of never visiting JW-related websites again. They have simply swapped mental slavery to a religious organisation for mental slavery to a religious website. So the question is: until the day comes when you finally stop feeding your JW website addiction, can you really, honestly, say you are FREE from the Watchtower???

Mars bars made with blood
by 5thGeneration inanyone remember back 15 years or so ago when some brothers used to think mars bars were made with lecithin derived from blood .. we had a sister call the company and interrogate them.
funny.. .

My mother thought chicken flavoured crisps had blood in them. All through my childhood I never ate chicken crisps. I used to crave them, fantasize about eating them. My mother even used to write letters to certain sausage manufacturers that she suspected put blood derived substances in their products. Amazing now looking back, the pharasaical gnat-swallowing & fanaticism.

Oprah for President in '08. Why? Why not?
by AuldSoul ini have seen the idea floated a few times in some interesting places, but also on threads here.. i think she would get the vote out in a way it has never been gotten out before.
it would also throw all the pollster's margins of error way out of whack (which might be worth it, all by itself).. why do you think she should be or could be elected president?.
why do you think she shouldn't be or couldn't be elected president?.

If Oprah was made president it would just be the ultimate statement in the stupidity of the American voting public, not that they have any credibility left as it is. Americans are not far removed from Filipinos - childishly fascinated with famous movie and tv personalities to the point they give them political power, rather than voting for persons for their real intelligence, principles and political ability. In fact, Americans are even more naive than Filipinos when it comes to voting - Americans vote on the basis of family connections and nepotism, eg, George Senior and now George Junior, Bill Clinton now Hillary. Pathetic.

Buddhism, Taoism, Meditation, and any other Non-Christian Journeys...
by exjdub inthere have been a lot of christian threads lately, so i thought that i would open a topic for other journeys.
because there is no way i will ever be a christian again because the curtain has been opened and i can see behind it, however i have an open mind and have started some meditation practices.
i have been thinking about visiting a buddhist temple out of curiosity.

There is overwhelming anecdotal evidence for believing in the spirit-realm. Millions of persons have claimed to have had inexplicable experiences with the spirit-realm, atheist and religious. Discount it at your peril. Butters, if you believe in Yahweh and Yahshua then you must also believe in angels and demons. Otherwise you must reject the gospels and must therefore reject Yahshua? Can't have one without the other. You can't pick what suits your belief system in the gospels and reject the rest as mere allegory. You're just like all the rest, you like to pick what you like from the bible and discard whatever doesn't personally suit u.

Watchtower warns against "religious secrecy"!
by AlmostAtheist inevery once in a while i pop over to watchtower.org to see if there are any articles crying out to be mocked.
today i found a lovely example of the watchtower condemning others for doing something that it is also guilty of.
the irony is exquisite!

If the Society aren't secretive then why don't they reveal the names of those who wrote the NWT? Why don't they say who writes their articles and publications? Why don't they publish a full, comprehensive annual financial report showing where all the money is and how it is being spent, like other bona fide charities do? Why did they hide the fact that they were an NGO with the UN's DPI? "Woe to you, hypocrites!" (Jesus Christ)

So you've 'seen behind the curtain' of Christianity huh? Sounds to me like you're just swapping one curtain for another. Swapping Christianity for a lot of nonsense about reincarnation, etc. Well, good luck.

I've heard that 'political paramours' was one of Fred Franz's favourite expressions and whenever you see this phrase in one of the Society's publications then you know it was Freddy who wrote it. Spooky.

Suprising statement by C.T.Russell in first Watchtower
by dmouse inthere's a website that has reprint of lots of old watchtower, and i happened to look at the first one, dated july, 1879.. http://www.mostholyfaith.com/bible/reprints/.
in a supplement to the issue, by c.t.russell, he offers a suprising (to me) viewpoint which seems to echo the arguments of many 'apostates' here, namely, that to kill billions at armageddon would be unloving and unscriptual.. we reasoned that, if christ's coming were to end probation, and bring irrevocable ruin upon ninety-nine in a hundred of mankind; then it could scarcely be considered desirable, neither could we pray with proper spirit, "come, lord jesus, come quickly!
" we had rather request--much as we should "love his appearing"--that he remain away and our sufferings and trials continue so that "if by any means we might save some.

You're talking about something else zico. Yes you are right dmouse, that's what Russell taught and believed and its still believed by most of the bible students. When I learned this some years ago it was an epiphany for me. It confirmed what I had felt in my heart all along, that the JW version of Jehovah and the hope for mankind is twisted + sick. It was something that allowed me to leave the org holding my head up.

New Campaign: "The End of False Religion Is Near" and the Tribulation
by Mikeus inyesterday my wife (an inactive-but-not-yet-df'd jw) and i went over to visit her parent's house (still very active jws), and my mother-in-law handed my wife a flyer entitled 'the end of false religion is near' with a nice evil-destroying lightning bolt pictured on the front.
she whispered to my wife that this was a new campaign and was not supposed to be handed out until next month, but was "very excited, because this is supposed to bring about the tribulation".. they may be right.
inside the two pages they call catholics condoning child molesting (ironic), non-jws blood thirsty war mongers, and how people involved in politics are under mind control (again, ironic), among other things.

There's a saying that those with small egos need to stamp on others to elevate themselves. The tract campaign is just more of that by the Society. The oldboys at Brooklyn need to constantly denounce 'false religion' in order to try and elevate themselves in the minds of the r&f and restore their waning image. Did the early disciples go around denouncing other religions as their main focus of preaching? No, they focused peoples attention on Christ. When was the last time the JW's had a tract campaign about Jesus Christ? What did Jesus say about religious leaders who go around thumping their chest and saying how much better they are than everyone else; a certain illustration about two Jews praying comes to mind - one a self-righteous pharisee, the other a humble, contrite worshipper. What did Jesus say will happen to hypocritical religous leaders who think they're so much better than the rest.

Are we in Christ's 1000 year reign yet?
by undercover insomething that gets lost in the debate over whether the wts ever claimed in print that armageddon would come in 1975 is that they did teach, in print, that 1975 would be the end of 6,000 years of man's existance on earth.. what significance is that?
according to the wts, in print, jesus would start his new 1,000 year reign of peace at the start of the new "millenium".
satan would be abyssed, war will end, the wicked destroyed.. whether the wts said in so many words, "armageddon is coming in 1975" or not, it is strongly associated with the then coming 1,000 year period of peace and rule by jesus.

The gap between 1914 and the actual start of the millennial reign is easy for JW's to rationalise away > Rev 12: we are presently in the 'short period of time' between when Jesus becomes king and when he 'extends his dominion' towards the earth. This 'ruling but not yet extended his dominion' is a completely extra-biblical invention by the Society, akin to the Catholic churches (recently discarded) limbo teaching.
