on another thread someone mentioned they were looking to 2034 for the big "a".
someone tell me it's just another joke!!

Depends on how literally someone interprets "just as the days of Noah were..." Noah preached for 120 years before the flood. But, as has been noted, his recorded lifespan was a great deal longer than ours, also.
There is no connection between the two, but it is another way for the hopeful to maintain some "reason" [excuse] to hope. AuldSoul
i received this from someone who recently attended the "keep your eye simple" special assembly day.. ----------------------------.
the title of this post was spoken by james pellechia, a bethel heavy.
after the mid afternoon song, bro pellechia reads the accounts report.. the circuit assembly account had a surplus of $3,000, the account balance was $47,000.
I don't think metatron meant to offend any Church by his comment. He was using language promoted by the WTS in his comment, they demonize all "so-called Christian religions" by denigrating them on several bases. One of those is "begging for money."
we shall walk in the name of jehovah our god.
" you will note that the new world translation of the holy scriptures says that they were "by divine providence called christians.
they were just living "normal" lives!
A thought to run by your local BOE, if you are brave enough: "If I was living in the 1700s and wanted to be a true Christian, how would I go about qualifying?"
If they answer (which they probably will not answer that question) followup with, "So, if we are wrong about 1914, that is what I should be doing now, right? And I wouldn't expect an organization to be formed, right? So God wouldn't be using an organization, per se, right now? Hypothetically, I mean."
Watch their eyes roll back in their heads and their tongues loll out of their mouths. It is very entertaining.

I think it is a useful site for helping to spark thoughts on where the Organization's teachings may be headed. I drew some personally held conclusions from the absence of certain things from recent publications. I agree with jgnat that there seems to be more willingness to mix personal opinion with official JW teachings than I am comfortable with, but with that analytical filter in place I get some benefit from the site.

as an experiment, i dare anyone to go out on to the street and make eye contact with someone.
not just for a few seconds, i mean, look at their eyes and don't stop as they walk closer and pass by.
i would bet, that a large percentage of the men would ask you what your problem is, and ask you if you have a problem with them.
My insides smile through my eyes. I meet all kinds of people. I greet complete strangers continually. I have extensive conversations with strangers in shopping malls and restaurants.
If you treat everyone as your friend, odds are the vast majority will be. I have never been skittish about grabbing someone's eyes and smiling into them.
If I am greeted by a sneer in return I can always follow that person home and eliminate them from the gene pool . Oh, would that not be a cool thing to do?
Just kidding. Sneers in return don't phase me. Some people are just dark, and they take immediate unconscious offense to anyone who doesn't share their dark inlook on the world.

the more an individual was willing to commit bad acts against humanity in the name of the state, the more likely he would move up the ranks, as he would be considered loyal to the party.
eventually all of the 'inhumane' became higher ranking officials.. .
jehovahs witnesses:.
Cygnus, please don't take this as overly critical. If you are going to copy the selective quoting techniques of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and its subsidiary organizations you should use elipses and brackets much more frequently . Don't leave any possibility of a reader misunderstanding just how clearly the quoted material supports your viewpoint. Here's an example:
*** w61 8/1 p. 469 Enlarging Your Privileges of Service ***
After God’s execution of judgment upon the wicked in his war of Armageddon, the earthly subjects of the King will have before them a world-wide cleanup program that will eclipse anything this globe has ever seen. Countless numbers of human dead will have to be buried.
becomes:
*** w61 8/1 p. 469 Enlarging Your Privileges of Service ***After God’s execution of judgment upon the [deceitful elements of human society] in his war of Armageddon, the earthly subjects of the [Governing Body] ... will have to be buried.
Don't worry. Keep at it. You just need more practice .

many people would say they are a cult, what are your reasons for thinking they are a cult?.
a created a thread a while ago on an idea of what a cult is http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/96309/1.ashx.
do you think it is the jehovah's witnesses as a whole a cult?
I was going to type a short synopsis at the end of each one of these six points.
Darth Yhwh, I am sure most regular posters here get the point. I would appreciate reading the synopses, though. I think it would also be of benefit to JW lurkers.

$3,000 + $9,000 = $12,000
Cost of using the Hall = $12,000
The supposed $3,500 deficit was fabricated by an undeclared earmarked contribution (modern day Corban) that was tacked on to produce an artificial shortfall. That way everyone contributes a little more.
2,000 in attendance.
$10.00 per attendee (we all know the average is higher)
$20,000.00
Where does it go? You can ask but you will never be told the truth. Theocratic Warfare (Governing Body codename for deceit) even extends to finance.
AuldSoul
amount of money you put into the contribution boxes at the kh??
i was just thinking about that.
i rarely gave anything, a couple dollars for the kids to put in.
I contributed $100.00 a month for seven years. Every convention saw at least a $50 go in, and if they were "short" on Sunday I dropped in more (I know, what a sap). Then I found out what was really going on that made them "short" EVERY Sunday of EVERY Convention/Assembly. There was a contribution earmarked on every Saturday that very few knew about that was not disclosed as a separate line item in the financial report given on Sunday. That undisclosed contribution was always of a sufficient amount to allow a negative balance on Sunday.
It is disgusting. I stopped contributing altogether. My wife and I do not financially support the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society in any way, and will not do so ever again.
