could the watchtower and the jehovah's witnesses survive the discarding of their 1914 doctrine?
the doctrine that in 1914 the end of the gentile times took place, jesus took up rule in heaven.
for some reason the jws think the outbreak of world war i in 1914 is proof their prophetic calculations were correct.

hey all, i usually pop into my folks once a week so that my son can see his grandparents.
anyway last week my dad asked if i wanted to go to a country show\fete with them on sat , so anyway a couple of days later i emailed my mum to see whether my fiance (non jw) could come too.. this is the email i received today.
as you are going to be busy over the next few weeks, we dont want to put added pressure on you, dont feel you have to come to the show.plus we have already explained the situation regarding mike we dont have anything against him personally, but the situation is difficult for us regards associating with him as your fiance because it would be viewed as our supporting your decision to marry out of the truth.
So sorry, ((((es)))) Keep in mind they may have been the victims of "loving" counsel from the elders. I know you want them to have spine and be able to decide to ignore what they are told, but if they haven't up 'til now they aren't likely to. I'm having to face that same reality with my parents.
Be true to yourself. If that means being angry right now, I fully understand.

as i said, the elders were very happy to accept my request for reinstatement.
i was almost like the proverbial prodigal son, having learned his lesson, and now finally coming back to the family, properly contrite and apologetic.. in a way i was, and in a way i wasn't.. i couldn't totally let go of the convictions i had about the wts being wrong about 1975. but i also couldn't let go of the fundamental and needful reality of my life that this was the only way of life i had ever known!...and i had never developed any social skills to expand beyond the boundaries within which i had been raised: in fact, i was utterly scared of trying to do that, and had been more than a little (the "shyster" episode) convinced that worldly people were simply not to be trusted.. so, the elders' first question was "have you stopped smoking?
" yes, i had.. good enough.. the next, and most pertinent question was: "do you now feel that the faithful and discreet slave is the appointed servant of jehovah?".
Thank you so much for sharing this, Craig. It is helping me, personally, and I believe it will also help me later on in my progress away from JWs.

i am a jehovah's witness.
today in our weekly world-wide meeting of over 6 million witnesses, we studied the watchtower magazine.
in today's study it says "...powers within the united nations will see religion as a disturbing element and will act to destroy...christendom as well as the rest..."
Brenda, don't let them fool you with their militaristic wiles. They are deceivers and connivers of the first order .
And they now think Brenda Cloutier is a loon. That was hilarious! Thanks for making me laugh.

you've probably heard sentences that stuck with you.
quotes, one-liners.
you hear them and they make so much sense or touch you so personally at the time that they become part of you.
upside/down, if you read the context (9:1 through 10:18) you will get it. The WTS, and the rest of the known Christian world, teaches that the man was expelled.
It was the third degree of expulsion, the most severe kind of expulsion the Jews could use. Most of the people expelled that way died from starvation. Jesus sought the man out, after he was disfellowshipped for apostasy by the "earthly organization" of his day.
here's something that happens that i find strange with women, no offence.
i was out with a female friend.
we're just friends and nothing more but to anyone else who saw us we would have looked like a couple.
FHN: Maybe when you are alone, the gals are intimidated. When you have a girl with you, the gals assume you are attainable.
Maybe when he's alone they think he may be homosexual (all the good ones are either married or gay) and they decide he's not when he sits down with a hot looking woman.

It is also curious, in my opinion, that there are more females born than males. I think women rate a guy's desirability, in part, by what sort of woman he can attract. If they see her as nothing special, they consider him nothing special. If they see her as a peer, he becomes desirable. If they envy her, she becomes the subject of all manner of slander.
I think this is because, somewhere back in time, a form of instinctual eugenics was at work that helped a virile man find many mates. It is all about continuing the experiment, after all. Our genes want to try out some other combinations.

the jws always try to frighten their members by telling them that disobedience can open them up to demonic attack and we know this is nothing but a mind game to keep them in subjection.
however it is claimed that certain occultists are paid by resentful people to cast spells against those that they hate eg to ruin their families, businesses or make them ill or depressed.
these occultists are people co operating with demons channelling their destructive energies through black magic against fellow humans.

Seeker4, " ;" is an HTML code snippet that gets imbedded in the HTML code by the forum text editor sometimes. It only shows up on copy and paste from the post where it apears. It stands for "non-breaking space" meaning the character will not cause a word wrap even if the word reaches the edge of the page. The previous word will wrap with the following word.
Hope that clears that up. And I hope you find peace.

im brand new here, just signed up today.
i have more questions than i can remember.
i was very excited to see that other witnesses have so many questions just as i do.
well then what is right? i thought that the JW had it the closest....i dont see how anybody can agree with a trinity, or how mormons agree with a segregated heaven, nor can i give credit to religions that support either side during a war.
If you are looking for someone to tell you what is right, pick a religion. Nearly every one of them will tell you what is right. As soon as you asked the question you started narrowing the field. But you already had eliminated the JWs because they have men set up as spiritual authorities over other men (did I sum that up correctly).
It seems to me you already know they aren't right and you are looking not only for validation of that belief but also for another religion that is the right one. Ask yourself this question: During the Great Apostasy, which religion was right? Once you have answered that, start your journey to the right religion.
Feel free to send me a Private Message (PM) if you would like to discuss it further. The system for that is in the upper left hand corner. I will send you a sample PM.
