People Are Stupid

people are stupid.

sometimes that is the only way to describe how certain things can happen.

especially is this so when panic, stress or hormones kick in which often serves only dilutes whatever common sense is left remaining.. a couple of examples:.

I've got one - Heard it from a Darwin award report.

A man heard a funny noise comming from the engine compartment of his truck, so when he got home he set about work to fix the problem, but try as he might he couldn't find the problem. He noticed that when the truck was running idle the noise didn't occur so he came up with a bright idea. He called a friend over to drive the truck for him WHILE HE STRAPPED HIMSELF UNDER THE TRUCK to see if he could find the problem. Sometime during the trip he got caught in the drive shaft and was killed.

You're right Kismet, some people are stupid.

wow, thank you all so much for the welcome.. .

i will tell you a little about myself and my past.. as much as i can for now anyway.. one of the most scarey parts of joining a group is i am afraid to put my name on here.. will that mean i will get a visit from the elders if i do?

I too felt relief when I posed my story - I know what it's like to keep it all inside. I came here looking for help to get on with my life and =it's working beautifully. There are caring and sympathetic people here who know what you are going though and they want to see you through your troubles.

I look forward to hearing more from you in future posts.

It was reading something like this that got me asking questions about and looking into WTS past/present.

I was fine just not attending meeting, but when I read a similar list it really struck home - but the question I have is:

How many regilions out there DONT apply to most of these?
I cant answer, as I have only experienced JW - nothing else.

i'm getting a kick on the wol board, there is a post there that's too funny.. apparently one of the witnesses went on a return visit with an elder and the guy they came to visit was "un-witnessable.

well, apparently he had the same beliefs as they did, so how do you witness to someone who agrees with you?

so the frame of thought from the replies is pretty much, if he has some truths, he must be an apostate, or perhaps he studied one of our publication.

That has been their stock in trade forever - "Only we are the one true religion". And you can't even talk to them about the past of their own faith, they close their ears and minds to anything you may know and label you as apostate. Then they wipe their hands and move on to the next house.

It's amazing how many faithful witnesses don't even know how their religion began - I didn't until after I DAed myself and looked into it further on my own.

The information would be good for them to know so they can answer questions posed to them in service, but then if they knew the history who would stay? Viscious circle.

isn`t it strange that jw`s have such a problem with ex`s?

try as they might to hang their watchtower labels onto me, i just don`t seem to be the person that they think that i should be!.

i think that i`ve become far more honest than the average jw.

I thoroughly enjoy your posts - I too never lost my love for God, although I've been troubled as to how best to serve Him/Her since leaving the "truth". I came to the realization that Jehovah/God doesn't need our constant grovelling, just recognition and appreciation for what we have and what He/She has done. I very well could be wrong, but it works for me. After leaving the JW's I was (and still am) turned off to organized religion - but not to God.

Xandit, It's true, I am out of touch. But when I DA'ed myself this procedure was forbidden. Policy HAS changed yet again. I'm not making this stuff up.

i left the jw's 11 years ago and even though i never looked back i'm constantly concerned about the things i do.

for example, my wife's family is fairly devout in their faith (catholic) and therefore i occasionally have to attend their church, and i am always riddled with guilt upon entering and participating in the services.

also, every time some calamity occurs around the world i am always wondering if "this is the beginning of the end"?

I too have tried my hand at blackjack, but as I stated at the beginning of this thread, I always felt guily. As if I'm being watched. I'm planning a Vegas trip leter this year, and I plan on it being "guilt free". I anticipate my trip to be far more enjoyable without worrying about what "The Watchtower" thinks.

This attitude comes from the paranoia of the governing body. They know the truth. They wrote the books. They changed the policies when they saw fit, and they know it wasn't directed by God because they had committees and voted upon what they should teach next. They don't want the sheep to know so they put fear into the hearts of their own poeple.

Don't read about our history - you might come across apostate literature, don't question doctrine, the bible is far too complicated for you to understand. We'll tell you what it means.

At the basis of the conspiracy is the fact that they get rich from the selling of books and magazines, but they have to stop their people from being inquisitive. And to do that they use fear and guilt - this causes the poor sheep to become suspicious of everything. Then the organization employs the DFing of upstarts and doubters to bring it all home. Eventually they are so afraid (of both the outside world and the organization) that all but the simplest of decissions must be approved by elders before action.

As a result there is a class of people out there who are so gripped by fear of doing the wrong thing or being overheard saying something improper that they can't even express their own feelings to their creator.

I thought that once the blood left the body it was "to be poured upon the ground" - no storage - no transfusion - no recycling? Am I wrong or does it sound like WTS is looking the other way in preparation for another shift of policy, er "new light".

something just hit me.. you know how witnesses love to remind you that the early christian congregations had problems, sometimes even big problems, whenever modern day problems and inconsistancies are brought to their attention?.

as much as my gut and heart hate the glibness and triteness of that, it is difficult to argue against.

but i just thought of a key difference.

Well, the demons have been among us since the time of Adam, they have learned how to trip up Jehovah's chosen people through public media. Jesus has only reigned(sp) for 87 years. I guess he hasn't found out how to make a smurf talk for him yet. LOL.
