I think I've got a Giggley-Puff in my hard drive. It squeeks and beeps at me all the time, and occasionally it freezes the whole thing up and emits pink smoke. I waved my New World Translation at it, but to no avail. What is one to do?

Demonistic forces abound
by RedhorseWoman ini just posted this appeal to simon in the suggestion box forum:.
i was just on the sex forum where i noticed a banner ad for pokemon chat.. needless to say, i am very upset due to the demonistic/spiritistic nature of the pokemon characters.
since making the sign of the cross is forbidden, i have been loudly screaming "jehovah save me from these demons!!!

Tiawani, you have recieved good advise here. If you want to know about their doctrines - read their literature, if you want to know about their lifestyle - ask us. Active JW's will give you a glimpse of their lives (through rose colored glasses) if you ask them.
Here are a few of their beliefs - there are thousnads more, but this is a start:
1- There is no "trinity", there is Jehovah God, Jesus His son, and the Holy Spirit through which/whom Jehovah acts. Each of these are a separate entity.
2- There is no hell, when you die you simply dont exist anymore.
3- There is a heaven, but only 144,000 humans will ever be admitted - most of whom are already there, approx. 8,600 remain.
4- Armaggedon will occur before those 8,600 pass away.
5- Satan and his demons inhabit the Earth (there is no hell), and they actively oppose Jehovah's organization through persecution and possesion of people and objects.
6- Anyone not in Jehovah's organization when armaggedon occurs will be destroyed.
7- Jesus Christ's return was prophesied in the Bible, JW's believe He has already returned (invisibly), and is currently ruling in Heaven.
8- All teaching and biblical interpretation comes from the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, and the Governing Body who write their materials. They are taught that these teachings, all books, magazines, tracts, and even their translation of the bible are sent directly from God to the the Governing Body, and are therefore NOT to be questioned.
Others on this board may be able to add some more, I hope this helps.

If the society says "JUMP" do you ASK...
by nicolaou innot every jw is thick.
in fact i'd say that most of them are just misguided.. still, i was wondering how many types of jw we could define according to their response to a simple, direct instruction from the society.. let's say this fictional directive from the gb is: "jump"!.
what responses would various jw's give?.

"Jump!"
Spiritually Weak - "Where does the bible say that?"
Congragation Overseer - "I cant see the air under your feet"
Full Time Pioneer - "I can jump higher than everyone else"
Bible Study Conductor - "This weeks spiritual food is 'Jump!', so we must not ponder why this command is given, but rather, obey the Faithful and Descreet Slave and thank them in our prayers for delivering this word of Jehovah to us at the proper time. The question for this paragraph is in two parts, A) What is the current food at the proper time delivered by the F&DS? B) What should we all do with this spiritual revelation in this time of the end?

Heaven? Hell?
by conflicted ini was asked the other day whether i believed in heaven and/or hell, and i almost started spouting jw doctrine before i stopped myself and really pondered the question.. it's a different world when you have to start thinking for yourself instead of letting the organization think for you.
when i left the jw's, i pretty much left religion in general, i dont consider myself agnostic, but i question everything religious i was ever taught.
from "does god exist" to "evolution", "faith", "death", everything i "knew" is under suspicion now.. so back to the topic, the witnesses teach: there is heaven, but only 144,000 get to go, there is no hell, only non-existance upon our death.

Here's a thought - everything we see around us is defineable by its opposite.
Things are big compared to things that are small, things are empty when compared to something full etc.
So, if heaven does exist and it is the most glorious place to be, it must have an opposite - not necessarily hell, but someplace vile and detestible.
Perhaps Earth?

Assemblies...conventions...special days...
by NikL inthere is a phenomenon in dub dom that i have always hated.
the circuit/district convention.. people will spend hard earned money, use up any vacation they may have to travel to a city they don't really have any particular reason to see to sit for entire days and listen to the same b.s.
they could sit and listen to at the meetings in their home kingdom hall.

I never liked a single one, I noticed it was a good opportunity to catch up on sleep, but my mother wouldn't hear of it and woke us up constantly. Besides, I was supposed to be "old enough to know better". One year, the year I got dunked as a matter of fact, I thought I could get out of the boredom by volunteering in food prep, well what do you know - my cong. PO was in the room and he wouldn't hear of anyone in his cong. missing the assembly - even for food prep. So I ended up having to go early and stay late to "fulfill my obligation", but when the talks started the PO would usher anyone from his cong. to their seats. My brilliant plan wasn't so brilliant after all.

So back to the topic, the witnesses teach: there is heaven, but only 144,000 get to go, there is no hell, only non-existance upon our death. If they are wrong about the majority of their teachings, they are probably wrong about this. Unfortunately this is one teaching by the WTS that we can't prove or disprove - we'll find out for sure one day, but we can't know until that time comes.
I don't know what I believe yet, as I'm still searching. The following quote is a daoist teaching I found recently, I think it fits.
"No beliefs are true, they're beliefs. A belief system is something you have faith in regardless of the evidence. That's why all belief systems are equally valid - they're equally invalid. Therefore they're all deserving of equal respect. Little or none. Which is why simple human courtesy outweighs the value of any belief system. Even if a belief system is accurate to the way the universe works, it's still a belief system. That's it's trap."
So, what do you think?

Other worldy religions
by conflicted ini am going to look up some of the worlds non-christian religions, not as a seeker, or out of a need to change beliefs, but from an educational perspective.
i have been interested in what people belive for a while, but have never taken this step before.
i guess what i'm asking is if anyone else has looked up other religions and what have you found?

So What Tipped You Out, Then?
by Englishman incan you remember that distinct moment in your life when you suddenly knew that your time as a jw was truly over?.
for me, that moment came several years after the removal of my privileges in the congregation when i admitted to having known my then fiance in a way that was not fitting for a ministerial servant.. i was quickly stripped of my 2 servants jobs, group study conducting, pioneer status, public talk giving and praying in the kh.
i was also forbidden to ever be alone with the lady concerned.. about 15 months later i was assigned a public talk, after 30 minutes i dried up.

This may sound odd, but here goes.
I haven't been to a meeting in 11 years, but I never stopped believeing. I had doubts regarding the actions of certain elders and congregation members, but I never doubted the religious doctrine of the society. When I stopped going to meetings it was simply because I was tired of doing it, tired of 5 meeting a week, 3 bible studies a week, 30 hours of service a month. I just didn't want to do it anymore, but I still believed what they said, and was comitting myself to destruction of my own volition.
It wasn't until about two months ago that I started looking into the history of the WTS and their many changes over the years, so I guess the turning point for me wasn't until long after I left, and started living my life like I really do have a future. I was sooo shocked when I read the comparisons between the WTS and religious cult activities. After a long time, I'm living for me - and it feels good.

Kind of like the "emporers new clothes" - they're there, we just can't see them. Or maybe they aren't there, or they were there, or they will be here soon, or ....
For years the WTS has made predictions and prophesied about the end of this worldly system, and their predictions ALWAYS turn up false. They are tired of losing followers because of their false prophesies, so now the GB comes up with a new idea - "We'll tell them that we were right all along, they just can't see it with their own eyes, they need us to tell them what has happened invisibly for we are the spiritual eyes of Jehovah's people." COME ON, who do they think they're trying to fool - I for one am not impressed.
