I got a nice surprise yesterday...
by Mastodon inmy wife and i started fading about 2 1/2 years ago, but for different reasons.
she had noticed the lack of love and justice in the congregations, even experienced some firsthand and the abusive conduct of elders against the r&f.
on the other side, i was starting my research on the wt and had pretty much decided i didn't want any part in the borg.

Do you do Christmas?
by sass_my_frass inthis will be my first christmas.
i'm not doing anything corny, no tree, no bigass fluoro santa.
just joining my new (husband's) family at their xmas gig - tacky presents for the kids, lots of food, stories by the old folk.

This will be my first christmas out of the org, the first time I have had the opportunity to celebrate it since 1980, so I don't know what I'll do yet, but I am going to have some kind of celebration, probably with my mate dedpoet, he's had a bit more recent practice than me, so I'll look to him for guidance. I am looking forward to it.

Do you still *want* to believe?
by daniel-p inif the answer is "yes," please explain why.
.
(i don't think this question needs explaining - i think you all know what i'm talking about.

I am only just out of the org, and I still sort of wish I could believe it were all true, but I know deep down it isn't.

You know, were all still a percentage Jehovah's Witness. Like it, or not!
by free2beme ini know a lot of people we say, i am 100% out, and speak of all the things they disagree with.
yet i don't think that is the case, we are what the accumulation of our days have brought us too and no matter how hard you try, i know you all have witness in you.
it might be as simple as a thought when we do something normal, with some stray conscience struggle with doing something we were told was wrong for so many years.

I'm only just out, and I expect the years of brainwashing will affect me for quite a while. I felt guilty when I was out with friends the other night, guilty on meeting days, guilty when I'm alone with dedpoet, which I often am, in fact I feel guilty almost all the time at the moment. Dedpoet says those feelings will fase with time, I sure hope so.

All Ex-JW's...what made you get out?
by noelle2375 injust curious about what made you leave the religion?
was it hard?
is it possible to get someone that has jw beliefs to see the other side?

The lack of genuine love, the unscriptual practices, like shunning, the judgemental attitude of those in authority, my own doubts that it was really the truth were the main reasons.

if they could only see me now!!!
by kittyeatzjdubs ini was always scared of leaving the witnoids, b/c i thought i would become what they said you become when you leave... sad, lonely, drug addicted, demonized, prostitute...whatever..... but here i am...a 20 year old w/ a high school education only...and i'm sitting on the 8th floor in my own office w/ a picturesque (sp?
) view of east memphis.
i have reached a higher point in my life than most witnesses can only dream of.

Congratulations kitty, it's wonderful to hear about your success.
Contrary to what many of have been told, there is life after the wts.

Good Elders and Bad Elders, how do you know which is which?
by JH in.
probably some elders really care for brothers and sisters in the congregation, while other elders just do their job automatically like yes men... probably you've know both kinds.. there is an elder phoning me once a month, very regularly, and i just don't know if it's because he cares for me, or because he has a boss that will question him on my whereabouts.... i was just wondering if he was a good loving elder, or just a yes man following orders...

In my kh there were a couple of elders who I would describe as caring, but neither of them are elders now. They have been replaced by clones of the po and school overseer, total organisation men who care more about their position than the r &f, judgemental, self righteous and self opinionated.
When I first started having doubts, I approached one of them in what I thought was in confidence. Within a few days the po came down on me like a ton of bricks, warning me against "independent thinking" and daring to question wts doctrine. That blew over, but when I flatly refused to shun dedpoet, they really went for the jugular. That's why I'm out now, really, how can anyone trust such men?
So, in answer to the question on this thread, the difference between good and bad elders is very well defined, at least at my former kh.

I think I may be sarcastic, what do you think???

I don't think you were sarcastic at all WC, merely truthful. What any jw thinks when reading your comments is another matter, but they're all braindead anyway.

Jehovah's Witnesses Deserve To Be Persecuted
by metatron inlet's say it plainly, for once.
jehovah's witnesses deserve to be persecuted.. at one time, jehovah's witnesses suffered terribly in germany and communist countries - but that was a long time ago.. right now, the watchtower's minions are slyly preaching to circuit assemblies about the importance of shunning their ex-witness.
relatives.

It sometimes seems like the gb try to teach us to have a "persecution complex". We are told to expect opposition from the moment we become part of the org. Yet they try to justify the persecution that exists within the wts as justified because it's how Jehovah expects us to behave, when in reality it is unloving and inhuman. What hypocrites they are!
