Would you ever consider going back to the JW''s?
by fullofdoubtnow indedpoet and myself were asked this question last night.
we went round to his local to celebrate my da announcement (made on tuesday 22nd november).
it was his idea, to "drink a toast to freedom", but i was up for it as well, and we ran into a former brother and his girlfriend.

It was a rhetorical question really, I knew how the majority would answer before I asked it lol.

more 'the end is near' (fiction book) & a ?
by carla inmy child brought home this fictional book from school, 'the bar code tatoo' by suzanne weyn.
she was wondering if this could have been jw.
i didn't think the comments on europe (and barcode) suggested jw but maybe some other group.

I agree with jgnat, it doesn't sound like jw stuff to me either. And there are indeed plenty of nutters around prophecying the end these days.

Dedpoet and myself were asked this question last night. We went round to his local to celebrate my da announcement (made on Tuesday 22nd November). It was his idea, to "drink a toast to freedom", but I was up for it as well, and we ran into a former brother and his girlfriend. This guy was df'd at about the same time dp made his exit, and he has never gone back either. Him and dp were friends then, though not in the same cong, and they have seen each other occasionally over the years. The guy's gf probably felt a bit out of it, she has never been a jw, but she was happy to meet us anyway. Oddly enough, it was her who asked the question, because, she observed, we seemed to be talking about the jws a lot. Dp very kindly told her that if she'd ever been where we'd been, she wouldn't have asked, and no, he would never go back to that crap. His mate had the same attitude, and I explained that, although I only just left, I was equally determined to stay out for good. After we left the pub dp commented that my answer made him feel proud of me, because it showed how far I had come in a relatively short time. He got a big hug for that comment,he is so sweet, he always seems to know what to say to make me feel good about what I've done.
They also asked a couple of questions regarding our relationship with each other, but we managed to avoid giving a straight answer to those lol!

Did your parents find you dates?
by Virgogirl inwhen i hit 19, and showed no signs of interest in finding a nice, suitable brother for a marriage mate, suddenly there started appearing a few "eligible" brothers from out of town at our sunday meetings.
even stranger, they seemed to be meeting up with my parernts and sitting with us.
stranger still, they had been invited back to our house for lunch!

My parents weren't jws, so they didn't try to fix me up with a brother, but some of the older married sisters in the kh were real matchmakers, or tried to be. There were 5 or 6 unmarried sisters around my age in our kh, all of us "waiting on jehovah" to provide us with the ideal mate, and 4 of them are still waiting!
Anytime an unmarried man joined the cong, the older sisters would take turns in inviting him round for dinner, always with at least 2 of us eligible sister invited as well. We would be seated either side of him, and once the meal started the host would start questioning him on his future plans, it could be quite embarassing at times!
When dedpoet joined us in 1991, he was seen as top notch marriage material for whichever one of us was lucky enough to attract his attention. What the matchmakers didn't know, however, was that he had been fairly recently divorced, and the last thing he was looking for was another wife right then. I think they tried to fix him up with every single sister in the cong at one time or other, including me, but he wasn't having any of it, though he's told me since he got some really brilliant meals out of it! One sister really did fancy him, and let him know about it, but he was never really interested in that kind of relationship with her, or anyone else at the time, and once he'd left they all lost interest anyway.

Education Public Talk
by ackack inhas anyone seen the education public talk?
i have the outline over here, but its a talk that i'm sure will now have to undergo some serious modification.
the talk itself (imho) was far more balanced than the current line from the watchtower.. has that happened before, that a talk has to be pulled or reworked?.

Did someone mention 'hypocrites'?
Not that I noticed, but it seems to fit them to a t.

My Friend's JW Brother Died-------- To Go To KH Funeral Or Not???
by minimus ini've been grappling with going to my very good friend's brother's funeral in a nearby hall where everyone knows me.
if i go to the service it is only to show respect to my friend and the relatives (some are jws, some not).
my friend said that if i didn't go, he would understand but i'm torn.

I personally wouldn't go, I'd try to see my friend elsewhere to pay my respects.
If you do go, is it possible just to slip in as the service is about to start, and slip out at the end of it, before the elders have a chance to corner you?
