I suppose they are a bit like REM, the former lead singer, Natalie Merchant, was Michael Stipe's girlfriend for a while. Actually, I hadn't heard them till dedpoet introduced me to them, but I love them now.

Congratulating the WTS
by greendawn inwe must congratulate them for their business genious, their marketing methods and the subtle way they teach these to their followers who think that they are been taught religion rather than marketing.
for their ability to present many pairs of contradictory ideas without their followers objecting to this.
for their ability to make their followers accept with admiration totally silly ideas .

.....For their ability to make their followers accept with admiration totally silly ideas
Yes indeed, they are very good at that. They make everything they teach so plausible, and so many fall into their trap.
As for the gb reading 1984, I think they are more likely to have studied T.P.Barnum....."there's one born every minute"

by AuldSoul in.
i don't think i can successfully put a clamp on my mouth if i don't take a break from this place.
i want my wife to wake up, but i think i can't do what that would take if i keep myself up-to-date on all the worst going on currently in dub-land.. i love you all and i will be back, i just have to take a breather.. auldsoul

So, Why are YOU mad at the WTS?
by Seeker4 ini've been thinking about this for a few days.
i'm pissed at the wts, but not like bitter or vengeful, but more like the "i'm sick and tired of it and i'm just not going to take it anymore!
" kind of pissed.

Because they ensnare people with false promises of a better future. I gave the best years of my life to serve the wts, with no reward at the end of it.

Do you ever feel guilty about reverse shunning?
by Why Georgia ini've been feeling guilty lately.
i come from a very close family.
we all love eachother in our own disfunctional way...lol!.

Oh WG, I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. Being shunned is something I am going to have to get used to myself now I've left, but I have no family in the org, so it will just be former brothers and sisters in the cong. When it happens, I think I will just ignore them, and I don't see why I should feel guilty about it, I have done nothing wrong.

JWs show up at my dad's surgery.
by Darth Yhwh inheres a little background: my mother is a jw, my father is not, my sister is disfellowshipped and i have faded away.. my father has an abdominal aortic aneurism.
this is a weak spot on the wall of the major artery leading to the lower extremities.
it will balloon out and burst eventually killing him without assistance.

Darth, I feel for you having to endure all this, how intrusive of the elders to just turn up like that. It's another example of how the wt divides rather than unites families.

The Persecuted Has Become The Persecutor!
by ozziepost ini was thinking about one of jesus' parables today; the one about "the unmerciful servant" in which jesus tells of a servant who implored his master, the king, for patience in settling a debt.
the master took pity and forgave the debt, whereupon the servant went to a fellow servant who owed him money.
as with the first servant, the other servant pleaded for time to pay, but instead of being merciful, as the king had been to him, he exacted the full penalty for a bad debt, having him thrown into prison.

Yes indeed! The wt want freedom to pursue THEIR goals, such as the door to door work etc, but deny individual members of their organisation the freedom to even think for themselves. They are totally ruthless when it comes to dealing with anyone who dares to question their teachings, as Raymond Franz, to name but one, would certainly confirm.

That's great Es. I haven't noticed anyone else from Derbyshire posting here apart from dedpoet, but there a few from Nottingham who I might know from conventions if we ever get to meet.
