Hi amfree, and welcome
I wrote a da letter in November 2005. I have no jw relatives, so no problem there - my family were happy I'd left.
My motivation was that the elders would leave me alone if I da'd rather than fading, so I could get on with recovering from spending 25 years in the watchtower. I didn't particularly like playing by their rules, but I'm glad I did now, it's been far easier for me than having to put up with the frequent phone calls and visits that I've known other faders have to endure when they first stopped attending

Well, it's June 12, 2007...
by WTWizard inand armageddon is not here yet.
in fact, i passed several churches of the catholic and protestent denominations.
and i thought that those churches were supposed to be destroyed before the great tribulation which was supposed to culminate in armageddon.

The church around the corner from us seems to still be standing anyway.

Is the 2008 version of the Watchtower really about saving money?
by neverendingjourney inwhen i first heard of the new watchtower arrangement, i immediately thought it was another in a long line of cost-cutting moves.
i thought they were interested in cutting the overall number of magazines they print every month.
so if they printed 20 million copies every 15 days, they could now print seven or eight million out of one of the monthly editions and cut over 10 million of magazines a month.

They might have saving money in mind, although they didn't mention it.
I can see the study articles being much more extreme and controlling that they are now once the "members only" watchtowers come out.

Mine went in in November 2005. I know I was kind of playing things their way, but da'ing served to keep the elders away from me, so it was worth the compromise as far as I'm concerned.

Any you like.
We don't have a bible here, and sometimes use the gateway link that blondie has posted, which has arouund 30 or more versions available online. If you become a jw they will expect you to mostly use the nwt.

'..simply for a contribution to cover the printing cost of the magazines...
by Gill indo you remember when we used to ask for a 'contribution that covers the printing cost' for the mags?.
was that ever the real cost of printing the mags?
afterall, we had to pay for the wretched things when we collected them, so was the wt society already making a profit from us foolish sheep which we then tried to recoup from the unsuspecting public.. were we conned?
-

have you kept your receipts or do you remember how many mags you had to fork out for??
I'm afraid not, but it was a lot. I didn't count them, but there must have been a few thousand watchtowers and awakes on the bonfire I had last year to get rid of my literature!

Is the Society embarrassed to mention Disfellowshipping / Shunning Policy?
by Gill inis the watchtower society secretly a little embarrassed by its shunning / disfellowshipping policy.. i haven't seen much in the way of instructions on how to deal with the 'lliving dead' in the watchtower and awake magazines in the last few years.
they tend to talk about df'd persons as 'choosing a course of life that leads to df ing rather than that harsh nitty gritty of how to treat or rather mistreat such people.. is this mistreatment only discussed in the kingdom ministry pamphlets now and deliberately kept hush hush?.
i should imagine the high mortatlity rate due to df ing leading to suicides could be very embarrassing for the organization..

Hi Gill,
I'm feeling quite well today, having not been on chemo for a few weeks.
It is about control. Fear of being spiritually weakened by having contact with df'd or da'd persons, especially if they may be truning apostate, has kept many a jw from finding out the truth behind why many people leave the org, and still does. Making shunning a former jw a sign of loyalty to jah, and an action that he will approve of, serves to keep most from working out the real reason behind this so-called act of love.
