  Nice to meet you and congrats on your first post,Im sure that you will be able to get lots of help here to help your wife not to get sucked in by a religion that by looking around at the experiences here,has a lot of skeletons in the cupboard they wont tell you about at the door.

  What a short but powerful post

  That Sydlig guy (I wont call him brother),he was apaulingly rude and arrogant,

  there was this audio tape passed around the congregations years ago,it had a talk given by a Governing Body member,I sure it was Sydlig,It was called 'Be an encorager like Barnabus'or something similar, you know I loved that talk it was quite good about how we should always be encoraging and upbuilding in what we say to encorage our brothers,

  Shame he didnt practice what he preached.

  okay, weve lost gerrard - that's the biggest blow in my book - but beckham seems almost up to speed.

  do we have any chance of making it to the 2nd round?.

  i think nigeria are more of a threat than sweden who we should beat.

  A tough group for England,I still cant understand why England as qualifying gruop leaders were not seeded but Germany,runners up were,I mean their group is a dodle.

  I would be more confident about Beckham if he had got in more pre match prep under his belt but I think the guy is full of spirit and motivation so he will still really go for it and play well.

  Its a funny thing but when England play the toughest teams they often excell themselves pull out all the stops,so lets hope they will now.

  "the assertion has been made that jehovah's witnesses take no action when an allegation of child abuse comes to the attention of the elders unless the accusation is verified by two separate witnesses, and that's just simply not true.".

  page 108 and 109 of the pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock (elders manual), contains the following instructions:.

  I tackled my father a JW elder about this,he was furious,but said that the reason was that they have to be very carefull because if they wrongly accuse someone they could be sued for slander.
  
  The real point is that it is not up to elders to act as police or accuser,any cases should be handed to the police to deal with whether a judicial commitee acts or not.
  I can remember sitting at sevice meetings and how they would ramble on about how much better it was to handle things in the congregation and not involve the authorities lest reproach be upon Jehovah's name.
  NO EXEMPTIONS WERE MENTIONED.

  perhaps one affect the dateline program will have is to filter some of the "weaker", leaving behind more of the "hardened".. perhaps this will result in more of the good people leaving and the society becoming an even more closed and controlling environment.. .

  It seems more and more of those without heard hearts are either leaving,drifting away,going nuts or getting booted,so more of those left are the thick skinned,hang in whatever type who support the Wachtower like football club fans,
  'Our club is the best in the world and we will never hear of anything else.'

  i had to write about my experience at the hall.

  we were taught about how wrong it is to show favoritism etc.

  well i found as i had no family as jw and went off my own back, i was excluded from many events.

  Favoritism,yes,that one on established families,in most congregations you see one or two families a hell of a lot of power and influence,and I know exactly what you mean when you said you were invited out and felt on pins,when people invite you in to their homes on a rare occasion out of duty and not out of the heart,its better not to go at all because of the atmosphere,

  I used to find it just the same,favoritism was so obvious in my former congregation that there was a nickname for those in the in group from those outside,

  We called it 'The Inner Circle.'

  even though i was raised to beleive everything the watchtower ever.

  said, ... i always doubted that god would destroy everyone at armeggedon.

  i couldnt understand how my granny , even thou she was .

  When I was a witness,a guy who I worked with always said to me,you Jehovahs always talk about the bad being done in the world,never the good.

  Now I look back without my Watchtower blinkers,how true his words are,I mean their is a lot of wickedness in the world but at the same time a hell of a lot of good,that Sept 11th tragedy shows as you have mentioned the genuine spirit in so many strugling to do good and help,mankind seeking to aid their fellow man,but their are so many examples of people all over the world risking their neck to aid their fellow man,yet according to the watchtower,God will destroy them because they are not on the JW club,a fine example of ethnic cleansing,eh.

  On a related note Witnesses always talk about how evil the world is compared to the pre for 1914 era when Satan was apparently chucked down here but if you compare today with the era when the Watchtower had its beginnings pre-1900 in a supposed Christian society back then if you were unfortunate enough to be poor or infirm or whatever the outlook was extremely harsh,you would end up in the workhouse of begging on the streets or worse,in a Charles Dickens style society,go back a few more years and you had public beheadings,hanging drawing and quartering in public,burnings at the stake,etc

  I have several JW members of my family who recieve various state benefits which is fine yet had they been living back then they would have to go begging in the streets or in the workhouse,yet they think the world is so,so evil,but they are so blinkered to what a caring society we have in the west compared to the past.A lot of people are as you say working hard for the good of their neighbour.

  Warned about Internet use again!

  so...the km for may has an outline re internet use.

  once again we are admonished to stay away as some sites are deceptive in that they say they promote jw's...but be aware!!

  they actually slander...slander the witnesses.. i can only assume they mean this board and the silentlambs site first and foremost - so if the elders weren't aware of these sites...they are now...the rest of us (barr me) are sitting there enthralled... .

  It all reafirms one thing,how can they pass judgementon these sites are about unless they are actually visiting them,as the Watchtower Research site has shown,they make regular visits.

  Another case of do as we say not as we do.

  They call it 'Theocratic War Strategey', Hiding the truth from Gods enemies.

  So you can never trust anything they say because they class all outsiders as Gods enemies and not entiteled to the Truth,

  worse still they also deny their own followers the truth so they are treating their own trusting rank and file as enemy not entitled to the truth by hiding the truth from them,

  Dateline in UK-Europe

  as has been mentioned before on this board,cnbc the european finance version of cnn which does have a few non finance programs will be screening dateline as usual at midnight on saturday.. the only question i have is will the dateline show we are eagerly awaiting be screened the saturay following the tuesday show or the saturday preeceding the tuesday show?.

  i would have guessed it would be the saturday following,if not,then i have just missed it.. anyway i remember when most people ran analogue satelite that on the eutelsat hot bird satelite you used to be able to watch what was then called nbc super channel which ran a standard nbc schedule,i dont know if it is still available on analogue for anyone who still has analogue set up on hot bird.i think it changed name to nbc europe,in which case you could possibly see it tuesday night,anyway for most of us over here we can definately see dateline on cnbc on astra digital saturday night,or watch it on streaming video through nbcs website.
