One of the things that makes JWs a cult is the fact that you can't be half in or half out. They will require you to make a stand at some point, if you keep hanging out with them. Hanging out with cult members is like, well, hanging out with cult members. It is not possible to have a normal healthy relationship with a cult member. No more than you can have a relationship with a crack addict. Try as you may, you'll either walk away yourself eventually or they will start to shun you.

Can We All Just Get Along?
by flipper inhello folks!
of course the title on this thread may have caught your attention from the riots in la in the 90's when rodney king made the statement.
i think it's a great statement, simple, but oh so true.

All great thoughts. I myself have made plenty of insulting sarcastic remarks, and I usually don't feel good about it afterwords. I have been trying just these last few days to make more positive remarks and tone down the rhetoric. I have to remind myself that so many people on this forum have weathered terrible pain, more pain than people can handle. We've all scattered when we exited the group like sparks from a fire, and we all landed in different places, alone, a cooling ember. no longer to feed on the warmth of family and home. The fact that we can't get along at times only gives critics more ammo. it also makes it harder for us to band together to fight against the WTS. We're so scattered that we are immobilized. So the better we get along and the kinder we are to one another the more effective we can be in exposing the WTS and the more caring and nurturing we will be with one another.

What do you think will be discussed at the Annual Meeting next week?
by truthseeker innext week is the annual meeting of the governing body.
what do you think they will talk about?
what is the business meeting about?

Shawn10538
Yes, as stilla mentioned, the annual meeting is a big event held at the Stanley Theater in New Jersey. Just imagine a circuit assembly sized event (about 2500 to 3000) made up of 99% Bethelites. It was a couple of years before I had enough seniority to attend the annual meeting. It is a whole day event comprised of talks by the Governing Body and other people like missionaries, Branch Overseers etc. Most of the GB speak on that day, or give a prayer. The subject matter of the talks are largely made up talks about Bethel issues, encouragement to long time Bethelites and maybe some missionaries. Sometimes, people come from Branches around the world to attend just to find out that it is nothing more than a glorifeid circuit assembly. World wide issues are also mentioned in the talks, the state of the society, where it's headed etc. it's really one of the more boring programs offered to Bethelites. Gilead graduation is another event very similar to the annual meeting, and is also held in the Stanley Theater. The annual meeting is known by Bethelites to be an opportyunity to invite family members to attend who are not Bethelites. After the ones with more seniority get all the tickets they want ( actually they are limited to four), then the rest of the tickets were divied out to the rest of the Bethel family. Newboys at the Farm are able to listen to the program from the Kingdom Hall connected to the factory there at Wallkill. Like I said, the program is boring. Basically it is a masturbation by the Society. Lots of unsubstantiated experiences that challenge my non-belief in magic. The Theater itself is worth seeing if you ever get a chance to go. It truly is a beautiful building inside and out.

God is just one of a billion possible explanations. Top on my list would be that it is absolutely reasonable to say that it was just a coincidence. Coincidences happen every day, even stranger ones than that. Another is that aliens pressed a time pause button in your head that caused you to stall your thinking faculties just long enough to miss the oncoming car. Another is that we don't know the limits of our own senses, and you happened to tap into our natural, but still unknown by science, sense of large moving objects in our vicinity. Another is that oue hearing is at times far more acute than we realize, and you actually heard the car coming, but it was so faint that you didn't realize that you were hearing it because we are not accostomed to paying attention to such small subtle sounds. another is that green gobulins from the planet Iktar were controlling your mind at the time. another is someone put a magic spell on you for your protection. i could do this all day, and they are all just as legitimate an explanation as the God (or as I like to call him "the invisible, mute superman with a beard and robe.")

One major problem with their argument is unnatural = immoral. In fact, unnatural is just unnatural, not immoral. Computers are not natural. It is not natural to force a square peg in a round hole, but it is not immoral.

Do "Apostates/ex-jws" picket their "new" churches if they disagree?
by booker-t init seems that every ex-jws now has so much rage at the wt society for the way they were treated and all of the scandals.
i was wondering though if an "apostate/ex-jws" found disagreement or scandal in their new church would they picket or get on the internet or get on tv warning people about the christian church?
i can answer that question with one word no.

As an apostate that has picketed before, I couldn't disagree more with your analysis. If I am ever treated the way JWs have treated me again, then I would respond in the same exact way, with anger and proper defensiveness, which might include strategic defensive moves. There is a reason why ex's are angry, it's not for nothing. They are angry because they have been abused. The scenario you mentioned is not a good one because a person who is abused by another person, unless they are psycotic, would be even more sensitive to being abused again ("once bitten, twice shy") and would be more likely to end a relationship with an abuser, hopefully.
Your view seems to be leaning towards the Society's view, that JWs are the true religion, and therefore are unjustifiably persecuted and hated. JWs think they are the most hated religion in the world because they are the true religion. Facts seem to indicate otherwise. They are not the most persecuted religion in the world, but they are close. They are persecuted because THEY PERSECUTE!!! They persecute their own members to keep them quiet. Being angry about that is a reasonable response. If an exJW is NOT angry about being abused, that would be strange. Personally I wish more ex's would picket and be vocal about the atrocities that have been committed by the WTS. You seem to be an apologist for the WTS, so your credibility is not too high. Not too many people on this board are gong to take you seriously because you seem to have made up your mind about certain things and are no longer interested in falsifying the WTS, (maybe you never were) efforts at falsifying being the scientific stance to have on the matter. If they CAN be falsified, then they MUST be falsified, it is imperative for the sake of truth.
JWs cry and suck their thumb every time someone even hints at being critical towards them. See one of my previous posts about JWs being pussies these days. They have no fight in them. They are just coasting until the New System apparently. They can't and won't argue or defend their beliefs either because they don't really know their beliefs and can't explain them, or they are once bitten twice shy because they have had their asses kicked out in the field by people who know more about their religion than they do, just like members of this board are by far more knowledgeable about JW doctrine than 99% of witnesses. So even the slightest hint at a critical thought is interpreted as persecution and sends them running like crazy people. This is typical mentality of cults; many cults exhibit a persecution complex as JWs have. I think I can speak for everyone on this board in saying that if any other chuch ever tried to fuck us over again, we would kick their asses just the same as we're kicking the ass of the WTS right now.
