I can't even believe someone can take an Englkish class without discovering what Bull the Watchtower is. Yet people get all the way thrpough college staying a JW. That absolutely blows my mind. As one guy here puts it, mind=blown.

by baltar447 inok, i've known a couple of these in my time.
one is a douche that i wouldn't trust as far as my 4 year old can throw him.
the other seems to be a decent therapist and he's really intelligent but i don't see how he can't see it's a freaking cult??

my DF-ing letter - opinions
by raxxxx into the body of elders in xxxxx.. .
i no longer wish to recognised as one of the jehovah's witnesses due to the fact that i no longer believe that this 'organisation' is truly representing him because :.
i have experienced greater and unconditional love/friendship with the people i am supposed to hate 'worldly people' than i did in this congregation.

I also like the points of exwhyzee. I refused to give them anything. The sad part is that they eventually went after me, but that was my fault for coming back for a girlfriend.

It's good but nobody that cares will ever read it. They won't read it from the platform or anything. But it sounds like you are being sincere so kudos! Welcome to the world! Have fun figuring everything out for yourself. I always do.

Questions From Thinkers
by Perry inhow do you explain david's graphic portrayal of jesus' death by crucifixion (psalm 22) 1000 years before christ lived?.
how do you account for the odds (1 in 10 to the 157th power) that even just 48 (of 300) old testament prophecies were fulfilled in jesus christ?.
in what sense was jesus a "good man" if he was lying in his claim to be god?.

What you should be asking is why are there not just Biblical Christ stories that prerdate Christ, there are PRE SEMITIC Christ stories that describe the crucifixion or other Christ story. Why stop with the Old Testament? Read Doane's "Myths of the Bible and their Origins in Other Religions." You will see quite a few Christ stories there that predate the Jewish people even. Christ stories arise pretty much as far back as writing of any form.

by Captain Obvious inthis is my first post on this forum, though it feels like i already know some of you here.
i have been lurking for a couple of months now, and i must say, there honestly seems to be more love and respect here than any forum i have ever seen on any forum of any kind.
i am 25 years old, married 3 years to my wonderful wife who is 22. we had a somewhat classic jw upbringing... which i now know has been our biggest problem.

Jesus Christ has been revealed to me. But he has no connection whatsoever to the Jewish tribal God Jehovah. It is an insult to Jesus to make that connection. Jehovah, as he was just a tribal God, does not exist, and if he did, i would piss on him with my disgust. He is an egotistical maniacal child killing genocidal racist sexist murdering slaughtering war fiend.
I can provide all the verses to those claims if you have conveniently forgotten to read all THOSE scriptures about Jehovah. Also, the Bible is just the Jewish myth of god, and a particularly heinous god it is, so. Don't bother quoting scripture. It would be like quoting Harry Potter to me.
Jehovah and the Bible are blasphemy.

I really don't get the fear thing at all. I have never for even a moment been afraid to run into JWs I knew. In fact, every time I do, I'M the one running THEM dowen and waiting outside or whatever. I'm right in their face with my long hair and beard, and I'm very friendly, and all I want to do is talk, talk, talk to them about everythiong. The weather, sports, who got DFd , who is now partaking, and I love to tell them what i learned in college. I offer to sit down with them and have coffee. "Oh, you are in a hurry? Where are you going that you are in such a hurry? Exactly where are you going? Oh? That doesn't sound very urgent at all. Come over here and chill with me. I'll pay..."
No I just can't understand the fear or anything related to fear. It's fun! I tell them all sorts of crazy things. All the religion I'm into. "Oh I was just at a bar smoking, and this transvestite came up to me..." It's hilarious, cuz I'm so nice to them that they can't really refuse.

Is worship deserved?
by goddidit inanyone know the jw explanation for this:.
so supposedly, god exists outside of space and time.
or, god wasn't created and didn't create itself, it just always was, or something.... ignoring any logical issues for a moment, if this is true, why does it deserve any worship for this?.

Shawn10538
Great question. Actually, the way I see it, if someone, or some thing ASKS to be worshipped, and DEFINITELY if they REQUIRE that you worship them under the threat of death, then all worshipping that results from that request or demand is illegitimate and phony. Why would a God want that kind of worship? What would it prove? It's like kidnapping a person and telling them to fall in LOVE you or you'll kill them. Then when they express love to you, you actually are impressed by their love and it actually means something to you. That is ridiculous.
The only worship that makes sense is the spontaneus unsolicited worship that comes from the worshipper aLONE, not from any other source. (DEFINITION OF WORSHIP AND HOW IT IS TO BE EXPRESSED HASN'T REALLY BEEN DEFINED BY ANYBODY BUT IT WOULDn't MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS CASE CUZ THE WORSHIPPER WOULD HAVE TO HAVE COMPLETE AUTONOMY IN HOW THEY EXPRESSED THEIR WORSHIP. If they adopted the God's method of worship it would be tainted and adulterated. If they adopted some other dude's definition of worship then it would just be some other dude's definition of worship and therefore not a spontaneus expression of worship from the worshipper.) (that was caps error not emphasis)
So, the very concept of worship is completely bogus. Unless it happens from the situations I described above. And I know everyone is going to say that their worship is this kind of legitimate worship, but if you are a member of most religions, then your God has asked or even demanded you worship him under threat of death. At least that is what MOST Christians believe. I am not that kind of Christian though. I don't buy into the Bible, and only go off of a few, shall we say, personal supernatural experiences. Which has been sparse for me to say the least. So I really don't have a connection with anything originating from the Bible, and I did not come to Christ because of any request to be worshipped. But my case is really muddying the waters here, cuz most people don't take on a God based on them actually possessing you so to speak.
In fact, I'm not really sure if I would agree with anybody that prayer, supplication, reading the Bible, going out in service or saying Hail Marys... any of that stuff, has anything to do with worship. I'm still defining worship for myself, and none of that kind of stuff even comes close to what I'd consider worship. I actually think worship for me is about embodiment. Holding the soul of Christ in you as if he were you and you were him. And living like that.
But I also believe in universal salvation, so my God is not requiring that you come to him under any certain name, like Jesus. that just happens to be the name he came to me with. Salvation is just a gift as I see it and I just know that I have it. Anything else is beyond my personal scope of experience. Like, you can't be gay, or you have to believe in the Trinity... Anything that starts out with "you have to believe..." is complete blasphemy in my opinion.

wow, that was one of the most interesting posts I've read in a while. I come across notes of mine from way back then every now and then. I wasn't a great note taker, but I could see the quantity of my notes decreasing over time. At some point i could barely get the title of the talk down. My schedule was crazy like yours back then too. all work, service, meetings, talks, work, service, meetings, talks over and over. Then I went to Bethel and it was the same thing only on crack. Now a days I feel great if I do one thing on my daily list which doesn't even exist.
