  Dallas On friday, what to do?

  hi gang, i am trying to decide whether or not to just lay around the pool on friday morning and afternoon or do a walking tour of the downtown.

  i believe if we hung around the hotel on friday we could be there to meet and greet those arriving.

  we could always tour downtown dallas on saturday, however i heard that several of you are planning on saturday to be the pool day.

  Bryan, yes, the dance floor and regular bar area are seperate from the reserved concert seating, and concerts are played on a seperate stage. You can see (kind of) and hear the concert from the rest of the bar, and there'll be no other music during the show. By the way, I notice that the concert that night is a cajun/zydeco artist - nothing wrong with that, but just don't expect top 40 country all night. The house band will be on before and after the show, though, and they're usually good, playing all kinds of country and prob'ly a little classic rock.Wish I could be there, it'll be a good time, but hopefully I'll see you all Saturday evening anyway.

  i've lost old hotmail accounts and the old account info that went with them.

  but it is me, es, essie, esmerel/alda, in addition to anything else obscene i may be known by in these parts.. i just pounded this out in pure frustration.

  i'm probably going to get heckled for posting it but what the hell, there isn't anywhere else i can go where people will get this, and i can't keep it inside, it has got to go somewhere before my brain explodes.. so here it is.why did i go to that restaurant today?

  Sounds like a good idea to me, Travis. It'll be awhile 'til I get much in the way of a free weekend (like mid-March), but I'd love to bring a few steaks down to share with my fellow apostates.

  why is it i always end up working for companies that don't give a crap about their employees well-being?

  i've been here since march as a temp; got a full-time offer in december and almost immediately the workload has increased and there is no new hires are on the horizon.

  the political games in some of these departments is mind-blowing.

  A Girl And Her Pig

  well, its time for stock shows and cfb has shown her first pig at the city stock show.

  she won the blue riboon and got a spot in the county stock show this coming weekend.

  i am hoping to make it down for this weekend, but that may not happen.

  Very cool, Valis. Obviously, she's enjoying herself, and looks to be doing a really good job with her project. Something to be very proud of, and some great life lessons learned here. Hope she does well at county, and wherever else she goes.

  Mad Cow Disease in Washington State

  hopefully not too many cows caught bse from this cow, and moreso any humans.. .

  but i do think that this is kinda of a payback to the canadians.. .

  we had one cow in alberta that had bse, and the us along with many other countries banned all canadian beef.

  The cow was slaughtered not because she was sick, but because she was injured. She had given birth and was unable to get up afterward. This is usually because of a pinched nerve or a skeletal injury (such as a broken pelvis or hip). These aren't things that would cause any reason for concern about the safety of meat obtained from this animal. The cow was tested because she was unable to walk, for whatever reason.

  That said, as a beef producer myself, I don't think any "downer" (unable to walk) cattle should be allowed in the food chain, and very soon, I expect laws to be passed to that effect. They have usually been stressed, which doesn't make the meat harmful, but gives it an undesirable dark color.

  Prions have only been found in the brains and upper spinal cords of affected cattle. Those parts are not allowed by law to be used in any sort of food products, for either humans or animals.

  Mulan, your prime rib is safe - enjoy. The disease is transmitted through the nervous system, so unless you're eating brains or some part of the spinal cord, you won't get "Mad Cow Disease".

  The disease doesn't spread directly between animals, either. Usually it's spread by feed containing animal proteins, which is illegal in the U.S., btw. BSE can appear spontaneously, probably a genetic fluke of some sort, which is likely what the case in Canada and this one (if it's proven to be BSE) are.

  Yeah, the U.S. was more zealous than necessary about banning Canadian imports... And it appears that we may be about to pay for that.
