My daughter and I went to the movies Thursday and debated seeing I AM Legend or "NO Country for Old Men". We went with the latter. Still not sure it was the right choice, with it's disappointing ending.

What motivates a person to start a religion?
by serendipity indoes anyone know of books, magazine articles, etc that explore the motivating factors in the origins of religion?
i'm especially interested in religions started by a single person.
of course, your personal opinions are welcomed.

Christian Science was started by Mary Baker Eddy: http://www.tfccs.com/marybakereddy/
And there were more:
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=527388 And, of course, there's some branches of Wicca/Pagans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faerie_faith
I wonder if the motivations would be different for men VS. women? -

Hi WAC, I signed up for one years ago when I thought I was going to have a custody battle on my hands eventually. It only costs me $4 month, which was the original cost when I signed up in 1989. I used it for my will, could've used it for a home sale and may use it to get out of an apartment lease. I view it as insurance. It's called Legal Services Plan at 800-323-4620. http://www.legalhelpnow.com/lsp/Header.do It appears the cost has gone up since I signed up: Your membership fee is just $14.99 per month or save $29.98 by paying just $149.90 annually.

Even now I still suffer from Demon-phobia at night anyone else?? {Bump??}
by Witness 007 inthings that go bump in the night still force me to get out of bed and check them out even though at 35 i know it's just the house rafters shifting, temperature changes etc...sometimes i wake up to see strange shapes in my room...switch on the light and it's my jacket.
i think the witnesses have conditioned me to believe in demons on a sub-conscious level.
i know they are not real...but i still check.

Just last night, as I was falling asleep I heard a voice that sounded like my daughter's. I looked at the door and around for her. She wasn't there. I wondered "was that a demon? ....of course not".

Is There Something Specific That U Regret Not Doing Because You Were A JW?
by minimus indid you want to belong to a social club but couldn't because it was "worldly" and witnesses don't get involved with the world?.
did you not go to college simply because witnesses say it's bad?.
did you deprive your kids of things because you were a "good jw"?.

The Positive Thread
by Superfine Apostate inpost something positive.. .
i'll make the start: after years of fading, my believing wife stopped attending the meetings also and i no longer have to be careful about what i'm talking about when hanging around with the rest of my jw friends.
for me this is quite an achievement and i'm happy with it.. .
