My suicide attempt yesterday...
by Gregor injust when you think life could not possibly kick you in the teeth any worse something like james browns passing blind sides you.
after listening to "i feel good" several times, including a half hearted attempt to dance to it, i swallowed an entire package of m&ms and drank a half pint of brandy.
fortunately my wife found me in time and forced me to drink a scotch and soda.

Don't worry Gregor. I did get a fright at first.
Some of the funniest times I have had is while being in the hospital on suicide watch. I have given myself and others the right to laugh with me. Suicide and thoughts of suicide don't shock me anymore.
I laughed mate!

Have you ever known a married couple that seem to spend their lives bitching and fighting, sleeping in separate beds and going weeks without talking. But they are lovely to their children and grandchildren and others.
Yet they still stay together. I guess they are comfortable with their lives on the balance of things. -

Did You Overly Discipline Your Kids Because Of Being A Witness?
by minimus ini knew a lot of jws that "beat" their child with the "rod" as a preferred "scriptural" form of punishment.
corporal punishment was the norm while growing up......were you given the "rod" often?
did you overly discipline your children??

I did, especially on my first 3 (I have 6). I used to smack them so hard. I was often out of control.
It was only after I had faded and got help for depression etc. that I realised how abusive I had been. As an MS I was struggling to keep control of all these aspects of my life and I just couldn't cope with these little people complicating things.
I am now a big soft grandad with a LOT more smarts and a regret that I, 1)Had a ghastly example by my mother and, 2) didn't use my common sense. -

I feel uncomforatable when my children ask about God....
by flip4diz ini don't know what to say.. for some background: .
i have been out for 10 years.
it was the birth of my son, who just turned 11 ... that brought me out.

This happens from time to time and I sometimes struggle when my kids ask a Bible type question.
I find myself stating that "Jehovahs Witnesses believe......." and usually add something like, "but I don't really agree with that now" and explain why.
I've got 6 kids from 11 to 21 so I can't go into detail with some of them or their eyes glaze over -

"Hypocrisy Was Rampant Among The Congregation."
by scout575 in"my family is the template for your average european catholic family...we had our problems, and without going into too much detail our history is filled with abhorrent instances of violence...most of my earliest memories are ones that will forever bring tears to my eyes.
my mother's insistence that god will help us through it, over and over again never panned out...add to this the fact that the nuns in our school would constantly call me stupid and write off anything i would say in a discussion because it was always wrong...what felt like god's presence was just a mind-trick.
hypocrisy was rampant among the congregation.

Hypocrisy is a common thread through all religions. The more controlled, the greater the incidence of hypocrisy, I guess.
I think this poster speaks for those of us that thought we had a relationship with 'godlike' people.
A heartfelt comment by her. -

Betty Butterfield discusses Jehovah's WItnesses. Disfellowshipping.
by Wasanelder Once inbetty butterfield .
betty says jw's are the most hateful people she's ever seen.
it's meant to be funny, but to those who know the truth it isn't so funny.

Somehow.... I am winning out in the end...
by Billzfan23 inok... something strange is going on here - what is it?
i just stepped down as an elder back in early november - and basically have a wife who has her hooks so far in the organization that i thought she would never bend... you know the drill - many family members in the truth - raised in the truth, etc..... well... last night we had a heart to heart about the doubts that i have been having, why i stepped down, and what i think will be a fair an equitable solution to the handling of our two kids.
it was like my coming our party - she completely bent on everything... she was completely understanding about my stance on everything, and although she does not agree - she does agree to not fight me on everything.

that's good news, I was just wondering how your wife was behaving. Now I think of it, my born and raised dub wife was very quick to leave the bOrg when she checked up on the research I had done. I hope it works out as well for you two! ...got to go and get your pint of ale now! Cheers, Pete

Welcome into the JWD ointment Fly. We're glad you posted and especially so as you sound very distressed.
I wonder how long you've been reading here? It took me about two months of sitting bug-eyed at what I was seeing and I must have felt a bit like you. Stay home sick tomorrow and chill. Take the advice that will work best for you in your circumstances.
Kind thoughts,
Pete.
