JW Middle Schoolers vs Non JW Middle Schoolers - what was your middle/high school experience?
by Julia Orwell ini'm a secondary school teacher and i've spent a lot of time at school this year since i've left jws simply observing student dynamics.
i do a lot of playground duty and have the opportunity to observe the kids at play and in the classroom.
i've especially had the opportunity to observe middle school kids, that is, kids between 12 and 15 in my state.. my observations of these 'worldly' children are:.

At the Kingdumb Hall we were perfect!
In senior high school, we JW youth went to a few NFL games together, sometimes straight from the Hall. The cars were stocked, and I mean stocked, with beer, beer, and more beer. The JW elder's son I drove with got stinking drunk. He drove on the Interstate very crazy. Then, in the City, he got a gun out of his dashboard and brandished it at the other drivers. I got scared and didn't want to go with them anymore. They were crazier then the worldly kids.
I moved away after High School (and stopped attending the KH). I heard that the elder bought his kid a new car after high school, a Mustang or Camero. I can't remember. He got into a bad car accident. He was paralyzed, in a wheelchair, and then got super mad. I remember he was a chubby, red haired kid. Personally, he was nothing but a prick in high school.

Part 3: My mother continues to try to ruin me
by sosoconfused ini am not sure if anyone cares, but the drama with my mother and me leaving the org continues.. apparently after todays craptower she goes on a spastic rant that because of my decision i am slowly killing her and my father.
the funny thing is i do not feel bad over this... i can't.. i have children and a wife of my own that i need to be happy for.
i love them - but as they get older and closer to death i realize that a new season is coming and imust care for my family the best way i can... the same way they thought they were doing.

It's very hard to have a parent not respect your decision or treat you as a separate person. Your mother is telling you what the Watchtower has instilled in her. She believes Jehovah is going to hole her accountable for your and your family's death. No sane person would think this, but your mother does.
Go get some professional help on how to help you handle your mother. It's going to be rough for you to state your position that you have a different perspective on religion than your mother.
I had to finally set barriers. I had to tell my relatives over & over again that I disagreed with the Watchtower Society. I tell them specific examples, and they run out of the room. So, they know I have exact reasons, but they can't bear to hear it. They persisted. Over the eyars, I finally got to where I didn't believe literally in the Bible the way they do. This caused more rift. So, then I decided to tell them I was Buddhist, and their eyes glazed over. All the while showing specific faults with the WTS.
I know at least one of them thinks I am demon possessed. Several times through this, I had to tell them that they shouldn't feel blood guilty on account of their actions. Instead, I always kept the blame on the Watchtower Society for its lies, flip-flops, etc. Now, they will come to me when they are "mad" at the WTS or brothers; even though I am demon possessed.
The beauty of this arrangment is that I do see and hear them often, as they understand my issues with those "blankity blanks in Bethel" (exact words I use when talking about the Society to them. BUT, they make a point of not coming around too much. Once a year. Best of both worlds.
Start innoculating your kids against grandma's religion. Make a pact that they don't talak god, jehovah, bible, or anything with anyone without you present. Don't leave your kids with grandma for any reason.

Couple other interesting DC tidbits...
by goatshapeddemon in1) they're going to stop producing the wt publications index "because its hard to maintain and translate".
so they're going to create a digital-only research tool on jw.org .
it's like, how convenient and smart.

I couldn't stand Paula Deen. Her cooking was just too unhealthy and I turned her off after 5 minutes and never went back to watching her. There are stupid people everywhere.

p.s. I did the same to Emeril, but it took a year. His "butter, butter, butter" got to me. Now, I watch the Treehouse man.

Wow. This cult isn't even trying to make sense anymore. Welcome to all the lurking Newbies coming this Summer!
My JW reliatives have helped alot of illegal immigrants. Now, I wonder if they will use it as a reason that they shouldn't help them out? The Spanish congregation where they live is not legal Cubans, it's Central American and a good number are illegal. And, it's going to shrink if they go home. But, I wonder how many will actually go home as opposed to quit the WTS. Thinking about the WTS "love/" The Catholic Church has taken a humanitarian approach to this problem. Remembe the woman who was rounded up by the Feds a few years back? She and her American citizen son refuge in the Catholic church. Hell, the Catholic church sponsored my ancestors to come to the USA. Many of the "illegal" mmigrants have "legal" children, families, jobs, and houses here too.
Here's my two cents:
- Central America//South America is where the potential is for the JWs. If the illegal JWs go home, then they can help get new followers there.
- This means less Spanish congregations in the US, which means less Americans attending them "for the closeness". This is really teaching separation. Watch, the American JDubs are going to start to look down on ALL Spanish congregations. My bet.
- The WTS strives to make people's lives unbearable, so they will hope for the New World. The WTS then puts them in the predicament to have an unbearable life.
- No education lowers economic freedom and its opportunities that come with it. Happy people don't need the Truth.
- No immigration to better countries, means lower economic freedon and its opportunities that come with it. See above.
- No holidays is a way to split up families and provide the JDubs presonal vindication of "us v. them" mentality. Family rifts means unhappiness and an avenue for the WTS to gain more control.
- Not going out to lunch? That was the big event of fun and what kept a DC bearable. And, it was the JDubs opportunity to wear nice clothes and be such great people to the worldlies that they would want to attend the afternoon session. And, they passed out invitations. Also, the DC lunches . . . someone should record the "no lunch" policy and get it to the vendors. Isn't the DC touted to the worldlies as an economic boom?
I remember last year's DC. It's held at a big arena with 2 recreational skating rinks. Well, I was there for recreational hockey. The JDubs walk over to the rink's rec area to watch skating. I started telling them how I was raised in the Truth (eye's light up) and why I left it (they ran away). The JW hall monitors were motioning people to not talk with me. LOL. So, I didn't go in the rink yesterday, but was at a mall near it. The parking lot was packed. Must have been a DC.
. . . . anway, Welcome to all the Lurking Newbies. It ain't you, it's the Watchtower Society.

I talked with a pychologist who specializes in high control religions. He said that it's normal experience to feel like a "stranger in a strange land" when you start to come out. And, if you were born in that feeling may last for a very long time, if not your whole life, becuase you have no belief "base" to revert to.
An ex-JW friend of mine moved out of the country. We were talking about what this pychologist told me. He commented that being in a foreign country was helpful to him. He was used to the feeling of not fitting in; and being in a non-native speaking country gave him another reason why he didn't understand/fully accept the customs/language/dress/ways.

Yeah, the local strip club has the best food in town. But, don't think the wife and kids will go there to buy gift certificates.
