Why do you even feel the need to annouce anything? They have no power over you until you give it to them. I think most are so brainwashed that if you did make a comment during a meeting or even from the podium you would be dismissed as "apostate"

Going out with a collective bang?
by slimboyfat ini've been thinking recently that i should just disassociate from the jws and be done with it.
i've been straggling along for over ten years now without believing it so it's probably about time i made a clean break and moved on.. but i really detest the fact that the announcement at the kingdom hall no longer makes any distinction between those who are disfellowshipped and those who disassociate themselves.
what a sleekit way for the organization to disguise the fact that many people choose to leave of their own accord rather than being thrown out for supposed wrongdoing.

How did you visualize Jehovah when you were young?
by Matsimus ini was born as a third generation (perhaps even fourth gen. but my great great grandfather never got baptized) jw.
i remember that when i was young, perhaps about five years old, i would think about jehovah as this big black ghost with yellow eyes.
to me he was quite frightening, and i was constantly catious not to piss him off.

I pictured him as an angry, old, man.

Message at yesterdays assembly
by isaacaustin ina relative of mine was at the assembly yesterday and was appalled at the message givien before lunch:.
she heard them blast higher education...then warn to not miss meetings for work...then they gave the stupidest illustration i ever heard- they said that it is true that supporting your family is important...but not to give it too much importance and said it is like trying to cross a busy street.
they said if you see a car a long distance off it is ok to cross, if you are too careful you will never cross the street.

So, they want you to try and find a job with flexible hours so you can pioneer and not miss a single meeting? If you only have a high school education or less the only job you're going to have is in the service industry which requires usually nights and weekends.

A Born ins challenge to develop a "post cult" personality.
by stuckinamovement ina born ins challenge to develop a post cult personality.. mentally leaving the organization can be traumatic for a number of reasons.
one of the biggest challenges for born-ins in finding their pre cult personality is that our entire personalities are based on the religion.
there is no such thing as a pre cult personality for us.

I think being a born-in biggest effect on me is the inabilty to see beyond a few years. Where do I want to be in 10 or 20 years.
That was my main issue as well.
As far as the "black and white" thinking, I've never had that. Even when I was a small child, I understood some things are "gray". That may be one reason it was impossible for me to stay in that religion.
For the most part, we missed our developmental years constantly attending meetings and field service and staying away from worldly people. We miss learning how to be social like most children do. We were frequently outcasts, because apparently it pleases god when children are confused or embarassed.
It does get much better. Like someone else stated, we just get a late start getting to know ourselves.

It's not the size of the boat and all that....................
Valentines is blown out of proportion. If you treat a woman like crap all year then magically give her $500 worth of flowers, candy or jewelry.................you still treated her like crap all year.
My man grabbed me in the kitchen while I was cooking breakfast for the kiddos and told me he loved me. Later, he gave me flowers. The unexpected hug meant more (although the flowers were beautiful--$20 special at the local florist)

Thinking back to how the fear of Armageddon was very real for me even years after I left the religion, I think the writer's just know how to yank the rank and file's chain. Gotta keep that fear at the forefront.
It does make me wonder what the older Witnesses (my Mom, for example) think about this. I distinctly remember when I was 5 years old, thinking that I probably wouldn't have to ever even go to school. I dreaded starting school what with all the worldly people who persecute you for your beliefs and all that.
I'm 43, by the way.

I should read here more often and ignore politics. Sorry, Tater! Another born-in. You'll find many of them here.
The waking up part is painful, but very releasing.

You are beautiful, too.
