Lern,to/spel;and "punctuate"!!!!!
by bigmouth inmaybe i'm tired but........at the risk of seeming overly critical, there have been a number of posts on this forum where the spelling and punctuation have been abysmal.i have no problem with the occasional error but the subjects here tend to be somewhat more complicated and it makes it too much of an effort if i have to keep re-reading things to figure out what the missing word was or where the sentence ends.one academic said it was no big deal as even his professors were poor spellers!well i've got news for you guys, if you don't sharpen up your grammer i'm not even going to try to give you the courtesy of figuring out what you're talking about.
.
now,i'm going to have shower and go to bed and i want this thing sorted out by tomorrow.love pete.

Has the Internet Changed the Way You Watch Movies?
by TD inmaybe my family is just wierd, but it's gotten to the point where someone has a laptop open almost every time we watch a movie.. typical example --- we watched cinderella man the other night..... "who's that playing braddock's manager?
"just a second...oh that's paul giamatti; you know, he was "miles" in sideways..." <snicker>.
"max baer...why does that name sound so familiar?".

Wombat,
Of course I'm taking it seriously might as well learn something whilst here!!
"I pasted the sentence below from this web page without the comma it still makes sense.
I really think that you should have used a "full stop" after the word "comma". Otherwise it doesn't really make sense."
I think it needs a comma after the comma. -

So apart from separating a list where else should one use a comma correctly? I remember my teacher saying that commas are not that obvious as to its uses. Any grammar teachers here?

Lazuli,
"I feel incredibly depressed by this and i don't know what to do"
We've all been there Lazuli. The most important thing is for this not to make you cynical and bitter at your young age. You've got to put it behind you and continue a happy churpy life. These are the best years of your life spend them with friends going out having fun. Soon you'll realize that this person ending it did you the biggest favour of your life and that's no exaggeration.
The girl I wanted to marry from the KH eventually married some rich JW. I was 18 like you, and planned to marry her at 21. She was a pretty and smiley girl and I thought i'd never meet another one like her. I can't tell you how releaved I am now that nothing happened between us. I left the JWs(not because of her) went to college late and Uni and had the time of my life. I met prettier, funnier, more intelligent and very importantly more interesting girls at college.
Unlike what the JWs will tell you I found decent friends out there who are now my closet friends and have been that way for the last 18 years.
My sister took the root you almost took with this guy, I don't know about you but she gave up on a brilliant place at Uni to marry what became her nemesis. She has been unhappy ever since but is stuck because of children. She came crying to me many times talking about divorce.
Lazuli you don't know how lucky you are. -

Wow what a sad story. They were picking on the guy for no reason.
As an ex JW I really don't recognise this kind of behaviour from the congregations I went too and wouldn't have believed it if a non JW told it to me. This is cloak and dagger stuff.
THe the JWs in the KH I went to would go through the before and after meeting pleasentries and that's it really. Never got much more out of them than that. -

Does it shock you that there are so few people on this board?
by free2beme ini read once that the witnesses loss between 30,000-50,000 members in the united states alone each year.
i know the numbers for worldwide exits, must be even larger and times that by all the decades of people leaving and you come to a fairly nice size number.
i realize some of these decreases are deaths, losing track of correct totals or a percentage returning right back into the congregation.

I taught my young JW neice to use forums as a way practising her English, using her mind instead of telly and computer games. Yesterday she saw JWD forum in my browser and immediately said she wanted to join but her older JW brother standing near by retorted with, 'oh they are all idiots on here don't go on it'.
I was sadened by the event because I knew that he had no idea what he was talking about and where he was being lead. -

Poppy,
I understand what you are saying regarding the difficulties of parenthood. My sister has several children and I've seen the way they have worn her down and me too when on occasion they all stay over. I'm their fun uncle and they love me because I treat them as my equals with love and respect. I'm very close to them and my sister has given me a free hand on dealing with them. If one of them was snoring or talking in any type of meeting I would resolve the situation myself because I would feel bad for the people being disturbed. Are we still talking about the same thing Poppy?
"So do you think a simple nudge ?"
Whatever it takes Poppy as long as the childs welfare is not affected. One nudge or two, swaying removing the child to the back until it changes its sleep pattern and quietens down.
"or a stern talking to was what this baby needed"
Poppy I never put it in that context. Naughty, naughty.
Yes this was about the lack of love of ONE particular rude JW. I know I would have approached the situation with more tact if I could see that the parent was oblivious to the distraction caused.
What I took exception to was, taking this one incedent and deciding that most are unloving, which could be true, but definitely not concludable from this incedent.
