fullofdoubtnow,
I did the guilt thing for 20 years. WHAT A BLOODY WASTE OF EMOTIONS AND BEATING UP ON ONESELF.
Move on, forget about it. You've got to re-write the scripts in your mind, it's the only way. Think positively when you are doing the things that bug JWs.
I had left the org ten years prior when I met my girlfriend. She had no hang ups about sex it was totally natural for her but for many months I couldn't do it, for guilt reasons. Then I decided to do it with her about a year into our relationship. The guilt trip was tremendous, I wanted the earth to open and swallow me. Looking back now I feel so angry that I wasn't allowed to enjoy that first moment with her.
Don't keeping making this mistake so that you won't look back and feel cheated and angry. Enjoy what you have.

My conscience
by fullofdoubtnow ineveryone who ever became a jw must have heard the words "bible - trained conscience" many, many times, i probably heard it, and said it, on hundreds of thousands of occasions.
when i first got in trouble with the elders for talking to dedpoet, they told me my bible trained conscience should help me to see what was right.
i haven't heard the term much lately, but i have thought about it a lot, and my conscience still troubles me quite a bit.. don't get me wrong, i am happy to be out of the org and have no thoughts about going back, but i still feel guilty quite often when i do things i would never have considered doing as a jw.

"yet promptly exempt god from that requirement."
And I have explained why. It's a theory with logic to it. The logic is I'm not trying to compare apples and oranges, it serves no purpose, confuses the issue and creates blind spots which is what we are trying to avoid.
"God is purely an emotional, internal experience."
You could be right. But it gives the theory of evolution more of a chance if I consider that it is the method by which an intelligent entity created us. The question this begs is why did the intelligent being create us in the first place then disappear?
It could be that God seeded space or nothingness with the Universe with intrinsic Laws, the laws of thermodynamics and the laws of evolution. So the probability that a planet, star, galaxy will from given certain conditions is one and likewise for the formation of biological systems. Lets say the creator knew from his statistical calculations that this system will create from 10 power 80 atoms so many stars, planets etc with so many of them supporting life. -

Here is another idea,
If life doesn't emanate from the god that, if you like, can pass it on like a flame from one match stick to another, then really there should be no spiritual mistery about it and it should be creatable, transferable and measurable just like every other energy type. -

What planet are you on?
That was a serious answer with a serious point.
Why don't you try refuting it instead of being condesending? -

Did your KH have a minimum skirt length, max heel height,
by White Waves inor other stupid rules for women?
ours were contingent on the spirituality of the sister and, if she was married or an elder's wife, etc.
then, she got more leeway.

I think american christian culture is much more puritanical than it's European counterpart. It seems this prevailing attitude influences also the JWs.
I was in a church a few months ago and standing infront of me was a sight!! I regular church goer was wearing a see-through crochet dress and a very visible g-string underneath!! Needless to say it livened up the meeting for me. -

justsomedude, jstalin,
We were created by God so God must have been created, therefore he cannot exist.
What kind off logic is this?!!
Within the physical realms of the known universe there are laws that say energy and matter are never lost but recycled. Everything we know in this realm has a beginning and an end. Immutable laws guide the function of our universe. Great!
This is the physical universe, stop trying to apply these Laws to realms you know nothing about. -

NWT 2 Corinthians 5:20
by TheListener inin 2 corinthians 5:20 the nwt says, "we are therefore ambassadors substituting for christ, as though god were making entreaty through us.
as substitutes for christ we beg: "become reconciled to god.".
i could not locate any other bible translations that have the word "substituting" in the text.

Gumby,
I think there is a fundamental difference between a ambassador and substitute.
A substitute teacher has her own way of doing things which may be different from the substituted. Similarly with a footballer. They are both in the same game but are allowed to behave and more importantly add their own personal two cents worth.
An ambassador must relay the message exactly as agreed with his/her superiors often down to the letter so that no dangerous misunderstandings ensue.
I think the WTS was very clever using this word as it adds credance to their claim of being God's earthly organisation. -

Why tortured to death?
by Gill in.
if jesus only 'had to die' to redeem the whole human race, why then did he have to be tortured to death?.
was that really necessary, and what sick mind decreed that it was necessary?
-
Spectrum
Gill,
I think this thread proves a lot about the nature of this Jewish God. He clobbers people for the sins of others changes his values on whim then according to the new christian's take on this God tortures his son to death.
None of this is necessary. It's just sick minded religious/political fools getting together over time to maintain religion, culture, tradition and nationalism of a period long ago that has unfortunately stuck around to haunt us. -

If the Bible is in such a mess is the Quoran God's final version?
by Spectrum inat least this is what the muslims claim.
until i had come on this forum i didn't have a clue as to what complex and convoluted problems biblical text offers upon scholarly examination.
i never took the muslim claim seriously i was quite derisory about the whole thing but now i have to give it more thought.

lovelylil,
With all due respect you must stop and listen to yourself.
"I am certainly not saying I support wiping out whole nations for any reason but I know in the bible accounts specifically, those nations were standing in the way of fulfillment of bible prophecy. And unlike today when man is behind killings like the ones in the bible, we know that God is the one who actually endorsed them."
My whole problem is that this "kind loving" God sanctioned it all.
" but a seemingly contradiction is not always a contradiction when you understand the whole bible and do not just look at one account."
Reading the OT in its entirety only reinforces the cruelty of this Jewish God. The Incas and Aztecs had no written form but imagine if they did. What would you read in their religious text? No doubt about how their God wants certain groups of people dead through war or sacrifice for one religious reason or another. Any christian reading that text would be horrified but at the same time totally oblivious to the real horror of the content of their own religious text.
