On Friday I asked my visiting JW whether it was ever okay to communicate with spirits. She said absolutely not. I asked her why the watchtower claims that the governing body is communicating with dead members. She said she would have to look into it when she got home. No need, I said, I have it right here and I whipped it out, already underlined. Her defense? "It says they MAY be communicating." So in her twisted JW reasoning that makes total sense, they aren't but they MIGHT be. So I asked her again, is it okay for me to contact a spirit? She said I would not be able to, I would only be able to contact an evil spirit, it is impossible to contact good spirits. So I asked how she knew her governing body wasn't contacting evil spirits? "Because they teach the truth!" Anyone else have the urge to vomit?

Unbelievable comment in Jan 1 2007 WT
by penny2 inpage 28, paragraph 11 says in part:.
"it seems that resurrected ones of the 24-elders group may be involved in the communicating of divine truths today.
" (the 24 elders = "anointed christians in their heavenly positions".).

Getting shunned by JW's that were always WEAK makes me so mad
by PaNiCAtTaCk indoesnt it make you mad to get shunned by jw's that barely made the meetings??
to get shunned by jw's that you used to go encourage.
by jw's that always led double lives.

I guess they finally found a Watchtower decree they can carry out successfully.
Exactly. They feel so good that there is finally someone lower than them on the theocratic totem pole, they shun with an energy and zeal that they are unable to put into any other "Kingdom activites". Hypocritical, yes, but they feel oh so righteous about how they are proving their loyalty to their God

Any more info on Nicholas Kip? (Witness apologist)
by slimboyfat inremember he was the witness who wrote a life story for the awake!
magazine where it explains that he taught greek and he was impressed by the new world translation and that is why he became a witness.
("how knowing greek led me to know god") well, like lots of apostates i have always found his story interesting because of course there are many problems with the translation of the greek that you might expect someone knowledgeable in the language to spot.

By some strange coincidence my local JW just gave me that very article today along with a copy of the Kingdom Interlinear translation. I would be very interested to know how this story turned out, too.

If it wasn't for the "Truth"......."R*****" and I would be divorced. And so would ******** and *********, and so would ******* and *******, and so would ******* and *******.
So he wants us to believe that this religion MUST be the "Truth" because the whole lot of them have crappy marriages that wouldn't last if they didn't have the cult forcing them to stay together? Huh? I think they are all unhappy because they based their choice of marriage mate on who had good field service tallies and who was "reaching" for more responsibility in "God's organization" instead of finding someone they truly love and respect.

There was one woman in our congregation who had a baby on a Friday and came to the Sunday meeting, baby and all. Jeez, she didn't even get to miss one stinking meeting!
Hubby's relative had a baby in the morning and still made it to the district convention (2 1/2 hours away, mind you) in time for the afternoon session. Anytime anyone had a baby after that they got reminded of the faithfulness of that particular sister.
I have to say the worst affliction I have ever seen anyone show up at the hall with would be a family case of headlice. I don't care what anyone says, that is just wrong, for the family and for the rest of us.

they caught me off guard...
by elliej inokay, i just had a very nice witness lady at my door giving me my own personal copy of a very important message.
i had a whole "presentation" memorized to get her to think, but i couldn't do it.
she seemed really nice and kind of nervous and i instantly felt sorry for her and took the dang thing.

Okay, I just had a very nice witness lady at my door giving me my own personal copy of a very important message. I had a whole "presentation" memorized to get her to think, but I couldn't do it. She seemed really nice and kind of nervous and I instantly felt sorry for her and took the dang thing.
So here's my question: What is my best bet when she comes back (which I gave her permission to do)? Do I go with the "immoral sex" angle and let her in on how the Society has been fighting in California to protect the pedophiles? Or does that come off as too apostate? Is there a more subtle approach I can take that won't scare her away right off the bat? I was not honest and did not tell her I was formerly known as one of Jehovah's witnesses. I don't want to persecute her, just give her something to mull over. Any advice?

False Prophets- Did the WT ever claim to be a Prophet?? Scans say YES!!
by Lady Liberty indoing more digging and thought i would post this for any new ones.
first of all i would like to show you what the bible says about "flase prophets": deuteronomy 18:20. .
20 "however, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that i have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.

If I may add to this one of my favorite bits from the Society on prophets:
The Watch Tower of May 15, 1930, pages 154-155, said:
".... a true prophet is one who is faithfully proclaiming what is written in the Bible ... But it may be asked, How are we to know whether one is a true or a false prophet? There are at least three ways by which we can positively decide: (1) If he is a true prophet, his message will come to pass exactly as prophesied. If he is a false prophet, his prophecy will fail to come to pass.... The difference between a true and a false prophet is that the one is speaking the word of the Lord and the other is speaking his own dreams and guesses.... The true prophet of God today will be telling forth what the Bible teaches, and those things that the Bible tells us are soon to come to pass. He will not be sounding forth man-made theories or guesses, either his own or those of others.... In the New Testament, and in our day, the word "prophet" has a thought similar to that of our word "teacher," in the sense of a public expounder. Hence when the term "false prophet" is used, we shall get the correct thought if we think of a false teacher."
By their own words they are condemned.

I knew an elder who had been asked to step down (several years previous) because both of his children "left the truth" who killed himself. They refused to give him a Kingdom Hall funeral. His younger child had been studying at the time, attempting a comeback, but we never saw her again after that. Wonder why?

August 15, 2006 "Do You Remember" Causes More ???s
by Schism inboredom got the best of me, and i took a glance at the "do you remember?
" on pg 30 of aug 15th watchtower 2006.. the question: "under the law, why did certain natural sexual functions make a person "unclean"?".
the answer: "the laws concerning uncleanness ascribed to seminal emissions, menstruation, and childbirth fostered good hygiene and a healthy lifestyle, stressed the sanctity of blood, and showed the need for atonement of sins.".

But what about a guy who's had one in his sleep?
My husbands uncle, who had 5 sons, had the perfect solution for this problem: Simply do not allow your sons to have wet dreams. He literally gave this advice out to others. Now, I am not by any means an expert on nocturnal emissions, but I wasn't under the impression that they were at all voluntary. He told his sons that if they had a wet dream they must be guilty of impure thoughts. Here is a perfect example of a man who believes that he can control literally every aspect of his childrens lives (and succeeds).
