It's a bit like my friend working for my dad and him calling him dad. Completely stupid as is most things that come out of the old men in Brooklyn. The whole org. is a mass of contradictions.

Seeking those who still wish to be JW's.
by Pineapple ini am not a jw basher.
i still love my brothers and sisters in the truth.
2 years ago i was kicked out because i am gay.

Welcome to the board pineapple. There are many rules and regulations for anyone who wants to stay a witness. You're right. There are many good people among JWs. But they would never accept that you had no choice in the matter of being gay. To them it is something wicked. Just like you're wicked or weak if you do not accept everything from their rule book. If I were you I would be very thankful that you are out of this org. I wish you well.

How Jehovah's Witnesses Differ From Cults

I don't think I have ever read so much rubbish in all my life. The whole article is full of half truths.
The society are against further education. They do isolate people for disagreeing with their policies. Everything is not out in the open when you start to study. There is not freedom to do whatever you like in employment. There is constant pressure to do more in service. Over the years thousands have died by following witness mandates i e no vaccinations, no transplants, national service and all their changes in the blood doctrine. They are totally adament something is right until it is proved otherwise.
Decision making is controlled by Brooklyn not somebody local. If a congregation regularly does not send enough contributions they will not get supplied the books or mags they want. If they do not agree with the society on something they are told to wait on Jehovah. They do not tell you that you may be right. Reading some outside material is definately frowned on. Anything that goes against the leaders ideas are a big no no.
And the best one is they don't consider themselves special. This is a complete lie. They are constantly taught that salvation only comes by association with this org.
If this guy is not a witness then he simply has accepted what he has been told by them.

32 Years Of Preaching For One New Convert?
by Bangalore inthe equivalent of 32 years of preaching a baptism - effectively you say?.

I sometimes post on a site called Friends United and post messages on the JW discussion page. I asked what the feeling was among UK witnesses about the 1% increase they had this year. One guy said that does not matter as it was a seperating work they do and it doesn't matter how long it takes. Mind you the society said this 1% apparantly shows Jehovah is blessing their efforts. You just cant win (sigh)

without the mathmatical gymnastics of"a day for a year "adam did not die on the day he ate the forbidden fruit.. had he been aware of the consequences of his actions then possibly he could be held accountable to some degree.. according to my understanding of the account adam did nothing wrong.
mans inhumanity to man and the senceless tragities in the world are fully accountable to god.

Icolytes, I'm really glad you brought this topic up. I have thought for a long time 'am I the only one who finds this strange'. To believe that an apparantly loving God would allow all the pain and suffering there has been throughout the ages because of one man's apparant mistake, is absolutely ridiculous. It doesn't matter if there is a hope for the future or not what human father would put their son or daughter through all the bad that has happened to people over the years. This has never made any sense to me.

can some elders or ex-elders or anyone help me!!
by etna ini haven't been to a meeting for at least 3years.
my wife and i have been married before and we have been married for about 9 months.
since we got married my wife has been going to the meetings to get reinstated (she wants to have a relationship with her kids and with mine as we have both had grandkids now).

All good advice. I have been able to fade, but I often wonder what I would say if the elders came to the door asking me direct questions. I think I would say that I feel the gov body are trying very hard and they may well have the truth. I would then leave it at that. It really is difficult when you have family in. I would love to tell them direct about how useless they are and the thousands of deaths they have caused but that would be playing right into their hands.

Hi Aussie Oz. If you were disfellowshipped for Adultery then that is what they would ask about if you wanted to go back. I'm sure they would also talk to you generally to see how you feel about everything else the Watchtower teaches. If it became obvious you didn't accept any key teachings then you wouldn't be eligable for reinstatement. Take my advice carry on with your own life and stay free from the JWs indoctrination.

Has the wts ever declared what they consider constitutes a cult?
by Holey_Cheeses*King_of_the juice. inblondie perhaps?
has the wts ever put in print what in their opinion is a cult?
a bold move on their part to be sure, but definitely within the scope of their brashness.. cheeses..

Excellant question. I too would be really interested to see what the borg say about this. They would have to be so careful what they did say. I can just imagine some witnesses saying 'hang on a minute that's what the Watchtower is like.

about the BBC panorama expose
by highdose indid anyone here actauy know the people cited as examples in that program?
also i was wondering how much good/ bad it did?
did it open anyones eyes?.
-
alanv
I did not know anybody on the programme but what I will say is that Panorama is very respected in the UK for being very accurate. Let's face it, if it was a lot of lies the WT would be after them like a ton of bricks. I believe there have been some improvements in the societies dealings with child abuse , but by no means as good as it could be.
