She grabbed her robe and walked out to the kitchen. There was a couple fixing breakfast for themselves! The lady looked at her husband and exclaimed, "Harry! Who is this woman in my house?"
Terry looked in amazement at the complete strangers. "What are you doing in MY house, cooking MY food? Get out!"
Harry scratched his head and closed his eyes. "I just don't understand it. Ma'am?" he inquired of Terry, "Could you tell me today's date?"
"It is January 5, 1976! What the heck does that have to do with anything?" Terry asked sarcastically.
"Well, this really doesn't make any sense. Armageddon was suppose to occur in 1975, and we have had our hearts set on this house for a long time. We figured the worms and birds had picked your bones clean by now. Hmmm. This is kind of embarrasssing.", he explained. "We hid out and thought we had missed the battle!"

What charities and clubs do you enjoy NOW, that you could not before?
by whyizit ini couldn't help but notice how one of my jw friends always shows interest in some of the things we are involved with.
my husband is the leader of a boy's club at our church, we have study groups on books of the bible (using the bible only, no guides or other books), we donate gifts to children in our area and abroad, we support wycliff bible translators and personally have friends that are in remote areas of the world translating bibles into languages that are unknown to most of the world, we try to help in any area that we feel led by the lord.
i asked our jw friend why he doesn't approach his congregation or elders and ask if he could start an out-reach for kids.

I asked our JW friend why he doesn't approach his congregation or elders and ask if he could start an out-reach for kids. He seems to have a heart and desire to help kids. He looked at me like I lost my mind. Too busy doing the door-to-door thing and having book studies. Something that I can see he does not really have a heart for at all.
What charities and efforts do YOU have a heart for? What things are you excited about helping with, that interest you and bring joy to YOUR heart? What are the things that you can do now, that you were forbidden to do then? Was there a time that you had a chance to do something very meaningful, but you felt you were not allowed to, and passed it up? How do you witness for Christ now?

I found this a little disturbing myself. I've never been a JW, so I have a lot of questions for my JW friends. ALWAYS---they change the subject. NEVER fully answer ANY of my questions.
The church I attend gives out a quarterly statement of how much money comes in and how it is spent. That way, the congregation knows exactly how their hard-earned money is put to good use.
I asked for such a statement from my JW friends. Never got one.
I asked what kind of charities they are involved with. No answer.
To simplify it more, I asked what they did to help the people in the Tsunami, since I knew several churches were sending help for the people who lost everything. I mean, that is a great witness for Christ and Jehovah, right? To help those who are in dire need of food, and water, and housing, and medicine......
The answer? Some guys paid their own way and went to rebuild KH's. How noble.
What about here? In New Orleans, when the big hurricane hit? Same answer. Great and wonderful bunch of guys went to rebuild the KH's and some of the homes of the "brothers". Mrs. JW was sure that she heard some of them were passing out bottles of water also. Donated by the WTS? NO. Donated by a brewery. They were just helping to pass the water, sliding in some WTS publications in the process.
That conversation went silent. They wouldn't even look me in the eye. I think they knew that it just didn't sound good. Seems like the WTS likes to keep it's own agenda in tact, but isn't too keen on helping others, unless it is somehow going to benefit them. What kind of heart does that show?
Mr. JW asked me what kind of charities OUR church was involved with. I have a list of over 35 that they support on a regular basis. (Samaritan's Purse, House of Hope, World Vision, Wycliff, various food pantries and homeless shelters in our area, etc.....) What charities in THIS area are ran by the WTS?
NONE. Not one.

What kind of things did you do when going door to door to add time?
by whyizit ini was intrigued by an earlier post.
the point was made that the jws are going door-to-door to meet a quota and are not really concerned about the people they are witnessing to, but only in saving their own butts.
has anyone ever had a non-jw friend and asked them if they could talk about jehovah for a while to them, in order to fill the time they need?

Did any of you think it was strange? The whole "counting time" thing?
What kind of minimum did you have to achieve? If someone is not baptized yet, what is expected out of them? Do they have to buy the magazines, etc..that they expect to give out? Do you have to buy the ones you pass around? How much are you expected to pay for them?
It just really seems strange to me. I've heard my JW friends bad-mouth other religions for trying to give them literature OTHER than the Bible, yet that is all I ever see them handing out! I've never had a JW leave a Bible at my door. Only a bunch of colorful magazines with pictures of kids playing with snakes and holding koala bears. Never a BIBLE.
Did any of you ever find that rather "odd"?
Thanks for all the response!

Ok..How Can I Put This.....
by Legolas inok... i remember ( or at least what i recall..lol) how god had always dealt with people in the bible...kinda like there was 'proof' of him for all those thousands of years...right?
....well how come nothing in the last nearly two thousand years?
if there was a god how come he let the bible get distorted and let all these religions start?

I don't believe the Bible has ever changed. Neither has God. It has been said that God made man in His image and man has been retuning the favor ever since.
People try to make God into something or someone that they can understand from the mind set that they have. If it makes sense that God is an alien and there's a bunch more just like him, you will follow that. If staying on earth forever sounds appealing, then you will follow a utopian version of that. You can find proof-texts to support virtually any religion you want to invent, from the Bible, but if you read the whole thing IN CONTEXT, then this other stuff just falls apart. Only if you can keep people from digging deeper on their own, will you be able to convince them that the Bible says something that it does not.
If you back off of your own reasonings, and read what He really has to say, it is very enlightening.
Look over the 10 commandments. Good rules, right? If everyone abided by them, the world would be pretty nice. Perfect, in fact.
How many have you broken? I venture to say I have broken every last one of them.
So, I go to the judge on the last day, and he is a very good judge. He doesn't play favorites and he doesn't take bribes. His motto: Do the crime, do the time. I've broke every rule in the book, and now I am standing before the judge. I say, "Gee, I am very sorry! Please forgive me!" Now, how is a good judge going to respond? "That is good that you are sorry, but I have to sentence you. You are guilty and you have to pay the price."
Then in walks a guy that I don't even know and says, "I know this person is guilty. But I am willing to pay for their crime, even though I have never done ONE thing wrong in my entire life. Punish me for what this person did. I'll pay the price, no matter what it is. I love this person. I'll do this for them."
How would you feel toward that person? They just saved you from the electric chair! Wouldn't you accept their gift and be thankful toward them? All you have to do is accept their gift. Then, since you are so grateful, you feel compelled to tell your friends and family about how this guy saved your life! As a result of them saving you, you start doing awesome things for others. You have a new beginning, and you are not going to waste it. You will be forever thankful to that guy who saved you! He's your new best friend and you will trust him the rest of your life.
This world is so wrapped up in the "feel-good" religions. The Bible doesn't promise you a "feel-good" experience, when you come to Christ. In fact, it lets you know that it won't be easy. The peace comes from knowing that He is in charge and that you belong to Him. No one can snatch you away.
I went through hell on earth a few years ago. I could never have made it through something like that, before I knew Jesus. He made Himself apparent over and over in that time. I have no doubt that He is there. He is exactly as the Bible portrays Him. I'm living proof. He walked me thorugh the fire, and I have the scars, but I am still here and I am still a Christian. Even when it doesn't "feel-good"! Even when I don't understand "why". I put all my trust in Him. Because I obeyed Jehovah and came to His Son for forgiveness, I am now a child of God. I finally "get it" and I will never lose it!
What other "religion" can offer that? Perfect security and a relationship with the one and only true and living God?

Has anyone ever had a non-JW friend and asked them if they could talk about Jehovah for a while to them, in order to fill the time they need? Right up front and honest about what they are doing? Instead of being phony about it?
Is there a limit of time you can spend at the door of a prospect? If a car load of 4 goes to a house and someone welcomes them and shoots the breeze with them for awhile, who gets to claim that time? All of them, or only the ones who actually talk to the prospect?
I noticed the other day when the JWs came over, two guys came to the door, then after about 5 minutes, a lady gets out and she makes sure I go over to the car to meet her mother, etc....and I just wondered if that was a way for the whole bunch of them to count me on all of their time cards.
And how is this Biblical? Where does Jesus ever tell us to go door to door, and count every minute?
Where does Jehovah Himself ever instruct us to do this?
It reminds me of a school fundraiser, where you work your butt off to sell "wha-cha-ma-jigs", with the promise that if you spend enough time and effort, you will win this awesome (cheap $2) basketball for all your effort. Then, inevitably, some kid whose Dad is a big shot at work, sells a boat-load while his kid sits on his butt in his hi-tech bedroom, while the kids who actually spent all the time really working at it get the shaft. That kid gets the basketball, which he will never even look at, while the other kids are disillusioned and bitter from the whole experience.
Isn't it unfair for a guy who is collecting disability (from a Govt. that he is not even suppose to be involved with), for some "ailment" that prevents him from working, yet he is still able to spend 96+ hours a month in wing-tip shoes, knocking on doors and running all over the place? While other people have to work and cannot spend that kind of time peddling magazines? That is what I have noticed. "Brother 96 + Hours", tells me all about all of his time he spends, yet he is on disability, he uses the VA hospital, and he gets food stamps. Not to mention the govt. housing that gives him a big break in rent. Drives a very nice car, wears fancy suits, ....Looks at his watch and mentions Jehovah and "end times" at least twice in every conversation. Then talks about everything else under the sun. I guess if you mention those two things, it counts as time accumulated??? I don't know about other people, but I think it is rude and I feel used when this happens. I'm just a number. He doesn't care about my salvation. Just adding more points to his own score card.
Guess he never read Galatians 6:14.

What kind of funeral will you have?
by MsMcDucket ini know that this is a morbid topic, but i often wonder what kind of funeral that i should have.
i mean, i'm not associated with any religion.
i don't want a preacher there speaking about the afterlife or trying to recruit followers.

I've heard of this being done before. I would like to do this too. I would like to have my funeral BEFORE I die!
I'd like to have it in a park somewhere, kind of like a family reunion, with friends, and people like you guys that I have never had a chance to meet. I'd like to have a band, or at least a DJ, playing my favorite music. Fried chicken and lots of pic-nic type food. I want to see everyone before I am gone, just one more time! Have a big fun time! Tell funny and sad stories about how we met, things we did, things that we went through together, etc... Things they will remember that maybe I forgot.
Then, when I really am gone, they can do whatever they want, but no big funeral. Scatter my ashes on the wind, put my body in the ground, slide me in a drawer, donate me to science. I don't care! I won't really be there anyway. That is just the dust I came from. What is really me will be with the Father. And that is what is most important!

I need to lose weight. but HOW?

Okay, I know a lot of you are probably going to think this is gross, but I am going to tell you what happened to me.
I work in the pet industry and live on a farm. I gained a little more weight than I should and I was having abdominal pain and migraines. I was looking up info. about migraines and found that some research linked them to parasites. One of the parasites was a common farm animal parasite. After going through numerous expensive and some rather painful medical tests, I decided to look further into the parasite theory. Many of the parasites that dogs get, people can also get. My doctor laughed at me and said that is a 3rd wrold problem, not something we have here.
I decided that I was going to do a parasite cleanse, just to see if it would help. I bought a product called Para 90, by Aim, because it did not require fasting. I used it for one month, as per the directions, and I had amazing results. My sugar craving disappeared, I lost 15 lbs. without dieting, and my energy level was greatly improved! I actually FELT like doing more! Instead of forcing myself to go take a walk, I couldn't wait to GO, GO, GO!
My buddy, who has not had solid stools for 9 years, diagnosed with "irritable bowel syndrome" , gave it a try. I never "inspected" my stools very carefully. But she did. After about two weeks, she actually found parasites in her stools! For the first time in 9 years, she had solid stools and no more cramping, etc....
I told my dentist who had been to Mexico and was having lots of problems with his bowels, and he took it. He said it did the trick. I tell everyone I know about it. You won't hear it from the doctors. They treat symptoms, and they ignore that parasites could even be a problem. Even though a lot of research links parasites to certain cancers, Chrone's disease, etc.... Doctors shrug it off as a non-issue!
Not only could you lose weight, but your food digests better and it improves energy levels. Your sugar cravings often disappear. I use it every 6 months. Most of the people I know who use it, do a cleanse every 3 months. If you have unexplained pain and weight issues, look into it and see if it is something you might want to consider. If you have any pets, you are at an even higher risk for parasites. And if you ever go bare foot, you can double that. Parasites are difficult to find in the human body. Don't count on a stool sample finding them. They hide very well. If you have never had a parasite cleanse, you will probably be surprised what all is living within your system.
This is just a suggestion. It helped me and some of my friends. Maybe it will help some of you also!

Hi! Welcome to the forum!
I am not a JW, nor have I ever been. I am a devout Bible-believing Christian. I read my Bible often and love every word. I believe it is the TRUTH. It needs nothing added or taken away. I don't believe Jehovah would have written a book about Himself, making it too confusing for most people to understand, so that another group would have to come along and make changes or better explain what He means. I believe He has made that clear in Rev. 22:19. He doesn't need anyone's help in communicating His word. He did it right the first time. And it remains perfect today.
But I do have some questions about this 144,000 subject. I have searched the Bible and cannot find one single Scripture that clearly states that heaven is limited to 144,000. I also cannot find one single Scripture that clearly states that paradise is on earth, or that "paradise earth" (that I have heard my JW friends speak so much about) even exists. My JW friends pointed me to Rev. 7 and 14, but I still cannot see where they are finding that this proves that heaven is LIMITED to 144,000. 1John 5:1 says that "WHOEVER believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God". Doesn't "whoever" include EVERYONE? John 10:16 clearly says that ALL believers will be together in "one flock" with "one shepherd", doesn't it? And where does Rev. 19:1 SPECIFICALLY say that the "great crowd" is? (Rev. 19:1--"..a great crowd in________".) So, when the Bible says where the great crowd is, specifically, shouldn't we believe that?
