Zev could use an apology for your attacks, and we all, including the WTS, could use an apology from you for your ignorance. They themselves have explained to you in literature why this sort of letter originates in Patterson.Frankly, I don't believe the WTS deserves any apology for all the corporate confusion! As far as I know, they haven't officially explained the new arrangement; only a brief explanation was made at an annual meeting! I believe they want it this way to make sure everyone is as confused about it as "lookin" has been! For the record, here in Hawaii, letters come from the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses of Hawaii!" I suspect that they have separate "Christian Congregation" corporations for each branch office. Now how's that for confusion!

Thanks for all your hard work in researching this UN matter! However, is it possible to get a copy of the application that they would have had to sign in 1991? I'd like to see exactly what it says and determine how different it is from the current renewal application. Also, I wonder what the 1992 Yearbooks states (I downloaded the pages from the 1994 Yearbook as was posted).
Also, how often did the Society have to renew their associate status? Can we get copies of each renewal application for the different years they must have renewed in?

as of 6:02 pm last night i received a facsimile from paul hoeffel at the un on the wts.. he gave me 3 of the 4 things i requested in two paragraphs.. i have sent a scanned version to steve bates and someone else.. i sent it to kent and randy.

I'm not sure if this has been sited in this thread yet, but I came across something very interesting on the www.jw-media.org site! Note the UN stuff toward the end (yea, we ride the beast too!)!!! I guess involvement with the UN should be viewed as a "civic activity," for "Christ himself emphasized the unselfish giving that is to be expressed by not expecting any service in return."

The Society views anyone who disagrees with whatever its latest teachings are, an apostate! It uses Society-speak with words like "apostate" to put fear into the ranks (CO's like to use this word throughout their talks to add bluster to some very tiered speeches), to prevent anyone questioning anything the Society says or does. Is this hypocritical based on what the Bible actually teaches? You bet! With regard to your wife leaving you because she claims you've gone "apostate"-- just where is the scriptural support for that view? Even the Society's regrettable comments in some of its literature, about a mate having the right to separate if she sees her spirituality threatened, was probably not meant as an excuse for ending a marriage (unless you prevented her from going to the KH or something like that).

i'm still sitting on the fence trying to figure out which direction to go in.
i think one of the reasons i have'nt left yet is because of the fact that i'm not entirely sure that the wts is really not god's organization.. some of the reasons why i feel that way is because of their insight on the scripture.
i've never heard of any other religion attempt to decipher the prophecies in the book of daniel and revelations.

I can relate to what you're going through. Although I still attend meetings myself, I'm no longer a servant in the congregation -- too much hypocrisy! I was finding it harder and harder to give most of the public talks, realizing that most of the Society's interpretation of prophecies was a big bunch of crap! Oh yea, they have "special insight" all right!
As far as interpretations go, where do they sometimes go? If they receive some kind of special insight from Jehovah, why do they quote outside sources, such as from a number of Christendom's Bible commentaries? I thought that Christendom was eating at the "table of the demons?" Actually, I applaud when they do, for it is then that I get some sense that what I'm being taught might actually be true! However, have you considered purchasing some of these commentaries yourself? Why be content with getting the "food" second hand? If you want, I'll provide a list of sources they often quote from or at least the ones that you'll get some benefit from. Surely there's nothing wrong with having the same books they quote from is there?
As far as other organizations discussing the meaning of different things, the answer is YES, there's a ton of literature out there! However, I don't think you'll be able to point your finger at any one religion as being the true faith. None that I've found follow the Bible ALL THE WAY. The Reasoning book on page 204, under "Do not other religious also follow the Bible?" makes this statement: (6) The Bible says that Christ's disciples would be no part of the world, and it warns that whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God; but the churches of Christendom and their members are deeply involved in the political affairs of the nations. (Jas. 4:4) In view of such a record, can it honestly be said that they really adhere to the Bible?
