Update to Shawn's story 2

i have taken a break from the board for a week because i am just burnt out.

i am still praying every day that the seeds i have planted grow but so far nothing is going on.

this past weekend was really bad and she saw me when she got back from being with a bunch of jws.

It sounds like you had a relationship at one time with her and that there is still some emotional connection there. From your overview of the situation, she sounds very confused. Of course, as a non-JW, you are viewed (by JW?s in general) as "bird seed" at Armageddon! She therefore, is probably getting some pressure from her JW "friends" to terminate any relationship with you. This is one of the clever tactics of the JW "organization!"

One thing you might want to do is review Ray Franz's 2 books. They are excellent in uncovering the internal cult-culture of JW's. You might try to bring out some of the major issues involving JW's (not exposing the books of course) that should make any "thinking" JW's pause and reflect on what or who they are really worship; JW's actually worship an "organization." Anyway, be kind, considerate, and understanding, as I'm sure you have been thus far.

If someone has mentioned this, sorry! However, the JW-CULT doesn't allow for this, either for single people or married people. And what's wrong with it if you're married or single? The "slave's" arguments don't hold water here! Just my 2-cents!

Hey Seeker4! Should you really care if you get DF?d? Unless some family will no longer talk to you (i.e., kids, parents), then why should you care? Of course the Bible is against leaving your marriage mate (except under certain circumstances), but if you no longer believe in the Bible, then why are you so disturbed? Anyway, I may not completely understand your situation exactly to give proper advice, but I can understand your problem in a limted way! Please take care and know that others are sympathetic! can a person be disfellowshipped and not know about it?

me and my husband have been shunned the moment we stopped attending meetings.

no one has ever called and only a few have come by over the last 2 years.

In most cases no. However, it isn't beyond the realm of possibilities. I was being partially shunned, although attending about 50% of the meetings. Now of course, I no longer attend. Rather than let these A-holes intimidate you, why not give a friendly smile, and try to be as friendly as possible? Their reaction to such kindness (or lack of reaction) may help you come to conclusion that I have come to, that the JW religion is a "snare and a racket," corrupt beyond belief, and that great happiness follows by keeping a great distance from it!

New Light on Higher Education

my son made a point to tell me that they had what was to him a very interesting, different talk on the service meeting this week.

the presiding overseer gave a talk on the society's changed view of getting a college education.. he used the scripture which admonishes the reader to "acquire a heart of wisdom" and applied it to getting a 4 year college education for the sake of being able to support oneself at double the rate of pay with one's degree upon graduation.

this of course is only for the purpose of being able to then pioneer, only having to work a few days a week, thereby having the time for the field ministry.. such an annoying change - finally!

A friend of mine just went to a circuit assembly, and from what I understand, several talks by both district and circuit overseers, highly criticized higher education. They mentioned that getting a 4 year degree was only an option to allow you to "pioneer," and even then a "spiritual" person would not do it!

Why not read Ray's books and find out? Ray was privy to a lot more inside information than you were while in the "happy place!" I'm an x-Bethelite too, but I learned a ton of stuff from his books, although having been exposed to a ton of realities from my own involvement/experience with the Publishing Department. Anyway, why are you asking this question? If you're fearful of mamma-ORG, then why are you here on this board in the first place? I don't get it, unless you have doubts. If this is the case, then you've come to the right place. And I might add, don't take criticism too seriously here, since most of the folks care about your beliefs and you personally, more here than mamma-ORG ever could!

Are "Apostates" Running The Watchtower??

for example.....no more parking fees at conventions (due to the "apostates") , resigning as an ngo from the un, etc.....do you think "we" are running the watchtower??

No more parking fees? You haven't been to convensions here in Hawaii, recently, have you? Not only are there parking fees, but you are required buy the food from non-JW vendors (via prepaid tickes no less)!
