The Kingdom--Present or Future?
by GinnyTosken inthe five gospels: the search for the authentic words of jesus by robert w. funk, roy w. hoover, and the jesus seminar, includes topic essays amidst the text of the gospels.
i thought this particular essay might be of interest to some folks here, since we came from a religion that saw the kingdom as future.. ginny.

WHY THE DOLLAR IS DOOMED
by You Know injesus pointed out the hypocrisy of those in his day whose faithlessness led them to become intransigent in the face of jesus' credentials as the messiah and all that that entailed as to jehovah's judgments.
likewise, the prophets indicate that ridiculers and apostates will proclaim themselves to be unconvinced concerning the evidence of christ presence and impending judgment of this system.
jesus' rebuke is equally applicable today, where he acknowledged that his generation was expert in using their powers of reason to interpret the changing clouds and winds to accurately predict the next day's weather, and yet jesus said of them: "hypocrites!

You Know, what a clown
by Cygnus ini see you know is back.
i haven't been keeping up with the boards in some time, but i see that robert is still here, trying to support his rather unique blend of larouche/rutherfordian end-time predictions.. well, i happened across the thread between yk and amazing, and i noticed that yk once again had his facts in error.
he said that larouche got 25% of the democratic primary vote in arkansas in 2000. i assume he meant 2000, because larouche wasn't close to 25% in 1996. well, the fact is that larouche only got 21.53% of the primary vote in arkansas in 2000. is that such a big number so as to make larouche a real, viable candidate?

Governing bye-bye
by RR inwell as most of you know, when the society reorganized the governing body retired as officers, in fact the society itself is run by earthbound members.. .
recently two governing body members kicked the bucket, klein and swingle.
that leaves the jw's with just eleven governing body members, who spiritually feed the masses, while the other sheep run things.. however, six of the eleven are so old they don't even know what time of day it is, the other five are younger and newly.

by somebody inshe misses him so very much that she still cries sometimes for him when she has a bad day.. about 2 months ago, my husband was at her house working on his car.
when he came home, he told me that jehovah's witnesses came knocking at her door.
she invited them in the house.

Jehovah's Name!
by VeniceIT inone thing that really bothers me is how jw's think jehovah will protect them from any scandle because they have his name and he won't want reproach brought upon it.. well, if they read their bibles and looked in the old testament(yes i'm starting to lose the jwisms such as hebrew scriptures), how many times were the isrealites (who he had chosen, and who everyone knew where his people), punished.
he didn't hide what they were doing or pass over it to protect his 'name'.
why do the jw's have this dissolution.

What is an Amicus Brief
by 3acrewood inhi, waiting, and all others concerned about this amicus brief:.
just to set the record straight - i have been a legal secretary for over 20 years, and i assure you there is nothing shady about the society filing an amicus brief in regard to this swaggart thing.
an amicus brief is filed in cases in which the verdict could set a precedent that would or could have an adverse affect on other parties not involved in the suit (i.e., other religious organizations, corporations, etc.).
