Glad you guys like Shatner too. He's a real hero to me. When he dies (he has a great song and a great line in that song about maybe being dead by the time you listen to the CD) I will mourn for weeks. Also glad you found this thread as it was moved. I can't believe how busy and looked after this board is.

Baptize 'em young, keep 'em outta Sports - My notes from the last assembly
by jgnat ini had heard of accounts of young baptisms, but i figured it was the exception rather than the rule.
now i wonder, after viewing the models of youth paraded at the last assembly.
i took note of the ages and age of baptism of the five young men (no girls this time) who were interviewed as models of jw youth at this last week's assembly.

When you get well into your thirties and look back at your teenage JW life, you realize you had a lot more in common with the misfits and punks because they were (posering or not) into anarchy. While you were too much of a pu$$y-wimp to join them, you respected them because they maintained a similar ideolgy - this world is a waste of time and ought to be destroyed. You just believed an invisible man in the sky was gonna take care of it. Now those misfits and punks are college graduates with degrees, families, great jobs, and you feel like a big fat loser.

He's always been a hero of mine. His new CD is called "Has Been" and it's an _incredible_ album. Aimee Mann, Joe Jackson, Henry Rollins guest star in it. Ben Folds cowrites, plays piano and organ and produces it. Matt Chamberlain drums. Shatner lyrics are hilarious, healtfelt, disturbing. He seems to be speaking from the heart and it just about has me convinced it's true. Themes ranges from death, to family, to fun, to outrage. It's a record you can't not stop whatever you're doing and pay attention.

Why does e-watchman HATE Ray Franz so?
by yesidid ini posted this on the other watchman thread.. you know what is sooooooooooo funny?
e watchman hates, absolutely hates ray franz.
wait for it............................................................................................. .

Good answer, confused. Also e-watchman is seriously delusional. Maybe a bit jealous, OR upset that Ray hasn't done MORE other than write his books and return letters and live as quiet a life as he can.

I hadn't realized e-watchman had that much support, that there were that many JWs going against the WTS' directives.
What's this March 20 change in policy regarding DF/DA ones? Can someone at least PM it to me? Thanks.

Quickly, WTS stands for Watchtower Society, the legal instrument and publishing agency used by the Jehovah's Witnesses.
It's tough to briefly summarize what JWs believe. For their sanitized version, try www.watchtower.org
My last landlord before I bought my house was a practicing Hindu, a good man, and taught me a lot. It's a religion I'd be interested in if I could resolve my spiritual issues with gods existing.

Jesus last statements

it would be after his cruification & before his official death.

The Psalmist was pretty deluded too. ;)
I forget the exact passage, but somewhere near the end of John it is admitted that much of what Jesus said and did was never recorded. That almost sounds like an admission that what _was_ recorded are myths and legends.

After all the wts crap, do any of you still believe in Jehovah?
by ButtLight ini have learned alot about the wts.
and disagree with allot of it.
but i still believe in jah.

No, I don't believe in Jehovah or the Bible. I wish I had faith (what bornagains call a "relationship with Jesus"). For years I shunned spirituality - who needed it? My idol was Ayn Rand. Now I'm feeling a spiritual void, badly. James Thomas and Undecided (Ken P.) are two of the wisest persons on this board, by the way.

My on-again/off-again disfellowshipping is on-again
by AlmostAtheist intwo of the elders on my appeal committee called me yesterday to let me know they are upholding the decision to df me.
of course, there was no question that they would do that, i even told the guy last time he called that i only appealed to buy some time before the announcement to visit with my jw family.. the interesting thing is how long this has drug on.
my original committee decided to df me towards the end of january, i appealed at the beginning of february, and now i'll finally be announced near the end of march.

Dave, your dad just doesn't know what to do right now. My dad had 4 kids. 3 of them quit the religion and did a LOT WORSE wordly things than you and should have been DF'd. I was the only one who got DF'd and it was for the flimsiest of reasons. My JW parents talk to me, do things for me, help me, look out for me, LOVE me. Heck, during this personal crisis I'm facing right now they drove up from Florida just to see me. So hang in there, I have faith that more and more older JWs are going to end up feeling this way about DF'ing and shunning,

Ok Alan, I'll take your word for it. I am aware that Gangas was fluent in modern Greek, not Koine Greek. I have been told by some renegade but loyal JWs that a lot more went into the NWT than just Freddy sitting in a darkly lit room hacking out phrases. Thanks for the yakking on the phone the other day BTW. You're one of a kind, in many things.
