The cool thing about how Zeppelin recorded that song was that Jimmy Page miked his guitars and amps through a chimney in his stone castle, then they reduced the speed of the overall tracks to 75% of it original and Robert Plant sang over that product. Pretty innovative for the time. Of course today a computer can reproduce all that work in less than 5 minutes.

History repeats itself (re current events)
by Leolaia inthe tragic disaster new orleans is now experiencing is not exactly unprecedented in our nation's history.
there are some lessons to be learned about what happened in 1927 in the great mississippi flood.
here is what the wikipedia states about this event:.

They don't say "So-and-so has been disfellowshipped" any longer as an announcement to the congo? They word it differently now?
I think I remember years back when someone was DF'd the announcement was, to wit: "The ________ congregation of JWs has disfellowshipped ________."
Sorry if this was already covered. I've been in a coma-like state for a couple of days.
Also, Joe Malik's story is found in his book, Beyond the Watchtower, 1982 Vantage Press. ISBN 533-05244-0. 8 years ago he had the whole book online, I was reading it online, then he sent me a free hardcover book. Try finding it here: http://home.earthlink.net/~jmalik/btwbook.html . He wrote the Society a bunch of letters which are reproduced and discusses the responses from "EI:ESE", "EF:ESY", and "SCH:SSH" (code names on Society letters identifying the writer). It's a fun book to read.

Is the bible inspired?
by jwfacts ini am trying to determine if it can be proved that the bible is inspired, and was wondering if most people here believe it is or is not.. i am writing a document on proof of inspiration, but it has ended up more of an article that shows the bible can not be proven to be inspired.
i will be interested in what people think about it when it is finished.
however i am worried that posting such an article may alienate those on jwd that believe the bible to be gods word.

Sagan's remark vs '75 yearbook. Invisible fulfillments of WTS prophecies,
by Pole inmost of you are probably familiar with the following quote from carl sagan: .
doctrines that make no predictions are less compelling than those which make correct predictions; they are in turn more successful than doctrines that make false predictions.
one prominent american religion confidently predicted that the world would end in 1914. well, 1914 has come and gone, and -- while the events of that year were certainly of some importance -- the world does not, at least so far as i can see, seem to have ended.

Over the years I'd used to consider writing to old JW friends. I'm one of the lucky ones; none in my JW family shun me, in fact I've never been treated and looked after with so much love in my entire life. After I received some 20 "get well" cards after my open heart surgery, and none came from any JW, even though I had yet to separate from my JW wife, I decided, unfortunately, they weren't worth it (worth trying to reach out to anyway). I hope the recipients of your letter are worth it.

Simpsons, "Thank God It's Doomsday"
by Fatfreek incheck out my favorite family, the simpsons, and its recent episode, "thank god it's doomsday".
i couldnt help but think that one scene illustrates how the gb arrives at their many date predictions over the years.. homer, at the kitchen table reading studiously: "hmmm.
marge: "homey, you havent touched your second dinner tonight -- and [noting the kitchen table covered with thick reference books] youre reading books.
