The neurology facility I go to for EMG tests and whatnot for my hands employs the older brother of my aforementioned friend. This dude quit the JWs some 20 years ago and I got to talk with him for about half an hour. he gave me his cell # and we're gonna hook up sometime for a beer/pepsi. Funny how life throws you curveballs and then once in a while a juicy fat hanging slider that you can crush into the left field upper deck. :)

*sigh* Letter to older, elder brother...
by mkr32208 inyou'll find the books at the end of this email this is a simple list and completely unnecessary in my opinion, you could go into any library in the world and get the date of 586/587 there is no dissenting scholarly voice so why bother with a list any history book will suffice.... i don't wish to argue with you there is no point, you made that abundantly clear when you said "the reason you stopped being a witness is because you didn't want to live by bible standards..." this is the fall back of the truly brainwashed/cultist... not "i don't understand what made you come to that conclusion.
" or "what research did you do that made you change your mind.
" there is never any acceptance of the fact that this was a well thought out researched soul searched decision its always well you wanted to be a bad person.

Are birthdays now a "conscience matter" for JWs?
by Elsewhere ina few months ago my jw sister emailed me out of the blue asking for me to suggest a good telescope for her little girl (about 12, but i'm not sure).
my niece has had a strong interest in science since she was very little and my sister is trying to encourage her.
if you are wondering, yes, my sister and her jw husband do shun me... so basically she got the info she needed and then disappeared again.

rem, good to see you old buddy. My thoughts exactly, how could anyone with half a brain regurgitate that braindeadedness as "truth" to other people. Some JWs have "appreciation days" on or near a person's (or even pet's!) b-day, complete with balloons and gifts. I know none of my JW family ever objected to a b-day being recognized. Guess I come from a liberal but tough family.... i.e. if the elders ever come after any of us we always stick up for each other. That also goes for me not getting shunned even though I'm DF'd, and the reaming out my Dad gave "the brothers" when they weren't doing their job helping my poor old grandmother a few years back. My exJW brother was there and said it was great; my dad nearly had those elders in tears he made them feel like such jerks, which they are.
And they have to tell Mexicans and Hawaiians if pinatas and luaus are "OK." My god!

When I was a kid my grandmothers always sent me, my brothers, and my sister a card on our birthdays with a 10 or 20 dollar bill. They were JWs. I'd challenge anyone to find something in writiing that condemns a simple acknowledgement and gift on the day. You just can't spread the word around.

Persons who deliberately spread (stubbornly hold to and
speak about) teachings contrary to Bible truth as taught
by Jehovah's Witnesses are apostates. The Bible condemns the following:
Causing divisions and promoting sects.
This would be deliberate action disrupting the unity
of the congregation or undermining the confidence
of the brothers in Jehovah's arrangement. There are certain cases that the body of elders is respon-
sible to investigate and, when necessary, appoint a judi-
cial committee to handle:Any serious sin that constitutes a clear threat of contami-
nating the congregation. (I Cor. 5:6, 9-11; Gal. 5:19-21;
1 Tim. 1:9, 10)Depending upon length of inactivity and other factors
suggested above, elders may determine to hold the
matter in abeyance. If individuals Persist in "walking, disorderly" in serious
violation of well-established Bible principles, but not yet
to a degree warranting judicial action, they may be
«marked» by members of the congregation. (2 Thess. 3:
6, 14, 15; w85 4/15 pp. 30-1; om pp. 152-3)However, this would occur only after repeated efforts to
provide authoritative Scriptural counsel and admonition
have been ignored and in many cases after a warning talk
has been given to the congregation. (w85 4/15 pp. 30-1;
w81 9/1 pp. 19-21 )If a person who has been marked continues his wrongful
course in brazen defiance of Christian standards, ada-
mantly rejecting loving Scriptural counsel, judicial action
may be taken if the situation becomes scandalous loose
conduct. If an individual takes a course contrary to the neutral
position of the Christian congregation, the congregation
is compelled to view him as one who has chosen to
separate from us. (Isa. 2:4;John 15:17-19)Elders must guard against automatic or letter-of-the-law
application of punishment for breaking God's laws.Elders must always seriously consider the guidelines that
serve to protect the congregation and keep it clean in Jeho-
vah's sight. They must also treat God's flock with tenderness. The law of the Christ consists of a body of rules for
Christian conduct.Yet b-day celebrations are never mentioned, again, if I'm not mistaken.

Are you honest when you say your age?
by JH ini know people who don't say their real age, like take off 2 or 3 years.... my mom looks younger than her age, so she sometimes took off a few years.
gee, i'm just the opposite, i rather say my real age, and wait for a compliment saying "hey you look good for your age".
how about you, do you ever lie on your age?

When I was 14 people thought I was 22 or 23. Now that I'm 33 people think I'm 17. I get carded for cigarettes all the time. When people ask my age I wanna say 27... I have to remind myself how old I am. I still feel 14 on the inside.......

1914 Has Been Strongly Re-emphasized ( Oct 1 WT)
by metatron into all you people who naively think that the geezers at watchtower central are slacking off.
from 1914, i've got bad news:.
they are emphasizing it strongly, as if to quell any thoughts about its abandonment.. the oct 1 watchtower with the cover "do you recognize the sign?

1914-1919 is responsible for the fulfillment of so many Bible prophecies the birth of the kingdom and Jesus' parousia and inspection can't be gotten rid of unless they adopt e-watchman's ideas. And he got DF'd. So I doubt 1914 is going anywhere any time soon.

CHANGE in "Chosen ones approaching"
by hamsterbait infor years the wts said that the length of the great tribulation would be cut short on account of the annointed.. the wt study on the "given ones" said that the other sheep would have no need to fear after the anointed are all dead because god will protect them.
( this must be before the end, otherwise why do they need protection) others have shown from study articles that the wt now says all the anointed will be in heaven prior to armageddy.
if this is the case, the tribulation cannot possibly pose a threat to the anointed.

Full body-cavity search?
The WT has vacillated over whether some anointed go through the tribulation or if they all get their crowns in heaven beforehand. Who knows what the current light is on the matter.

If I'm not mistaken, if you give a b-day present or have a small party and don't advocate it or advertise it to the congregation, the elders won't mind. In other words, I don't think it's in the list of DFing offences in the Flock book. In my JW family, when I was a kid, when someone had a birthday my dad would lead everyone into saying loudly and proudly "HH-AA-PP-PP-YY BB-II-RR-TT-HH-DD-AA-TT-EE so and so". I always thought that was neat.
