This stuff is incredible to me. The Governing Body has to be scared to death, and if this sort of thing really gets out of control, look for some major witch-hunts and mass disfellowshippings. The Great Apostasy of 1980 is going to pale in comparison. Frankly, I'm pretty shocked at the links skally is posting.

hope all is well :) i know i havent posted much or atall really so sorry about that im just needing a little help i am i8 years old......., im just wondering because i am curretly friends with jw's and stuff (im not babtised though) and they keep sayng to me about the prohecies in the bible like the bible preticted ww1 to the exact date...religon is going to be banned in the great tribulation (then the end will happen) about the 7 global powers or something, and america now are the last superpower before the world ends, (anglo-saxon or something...) .
i just need help about these...are these true?

Restating what others have said but in different words (and borrowed from A. Feuerbacher), the Fundamental Doctrine of Jehovah's Witnesses is that their leadership (called the Governing Body) is always correct, even when they're demonstrably wrong.
Basically, JWs have been dumbed-down and reduced to repeating slogans and your average contemporary JW (especially an 18 year old!) couldn't prove what he allegedly believes from the Bible if you offered him(/her) $1,000,000.00.

two of nasa's great observatories, the spitzer and hubble space telescopes, have teamed up to "weigh" the stars in several very distant galaxies.
one of these galaxies, among the most distant ever seen, appears to be unusually massive and mature for its place in the young universe.

Crossing the street carries a degree of risk. We reduce the risk factors by installing traffic lights, penalizing offenders, and instructing pedestrians to check-before-they-step. Have we absolutely eliminated the risk of crossing the street? No, people still die needlessly every year. How could we eliminate risk of crossing the street? We could ban vehicles, or we could stop crossing the street. But chicken little needs to get to the other side of the road. How do we get chicken there?

rootcause, you're obviously not a native English speaker so I'll try to keep this simple. The command to Noah was to make sure the animal was dead, the Levitical command was to show respect for the life taken (that's why at 17:5 if the animal was already dead and blood was consumed all the Hebrew had to do was bathe and change clothes), and the apostolic decree was given to gentile churches and consisted of 4 specific things, the same four in the same order that is found in Leviticus 17 & 18 for an alien resident to be found acceptible in a Jewish community. That's why murder, stealing, lying, and other bad stuff ain't bein' in there.

My Surgery is coming up soon........

on friday sept 30th i have my angiogram.
my step mother is so wonderful.

Good luck! I think my mom might some day need that surgery as well. I had open heart surgery at age 30 and wasn't scared until they wheeled me into that freezing cold OR. Luckily, they put me out 15 seconds later.

I can't imagine how the Watchtower could possibly still say "the time is at hand" in the year 2014. I was thinking of this earlier. It's been about 8 1/2 years since I quit being a JW. Like Simon mentioned somewhere else, when will I be an ex-ex-JW? I kinda hope that in another 8.5 years I won't think about Watchtower crap too much, but I guess it would be interesting to see what happens to the organization/rank and file 100 years after the Gentile Times ended and 40 years after 1975.

prop, darn you, now I'm struggling to remember her name too. Apok was Greg Stafford, and Corbancan (Andrew) is the other JW you're thinking of. I wonder if he still hangs out with Greg. I haven't talked to him in probably 2.5-3 years.
