So she was an 18 year old mom, and likely a JW one. Poor woman, the last 20 years of her life were probably made hell by her husband and their religion.

Misinformation in CoC
by ICBehindtheCurtain inhello everyone, i know that many here like me have read ray's book crisis of consience, i was very impressed with it, it helped open my eyes to the hypocrisy and double standards of the wts, and ray gave me the impresion of being a very loving and kind man, not the demonized apostate we were all lead to believe.
but, i noticed something that wasn't quite correct when i was reading the part that spoke of then brother rene vazquez, he makes it seem like all rene did was have private conversations with ray and nothing else, this is not true, i for a fact know that this was not all that happened.
in a ms meeting on tuesday back in 1980, rene was conducting a part and he went up to the stage with only his bible, he started saying that all we needed was the bible, that we would no longer be using other publications by the wts .

Gary, I continue to like the way you think. Breaking free from Watchowerism can certainly be unpleasant at the time, but the sooner one realizes he was just part of the machine and entirely replaceable, one can find relief.

Christianity, Satan & Halloween
by Nellie inforget about being a witness - i never, ever understood how mainstream christian people could justify participating in a celebration that is so overtly satanic.
while i recognize the ability to dress up in non-satanic costumes, the participation aspect bothers me.
of course, now, my kids want to trick or treat, but i just can't bring myself to say "yes.

Oh yeah, that's a wig, I cut all my long hair a few years ago. You can't see the false eyelashes in my pic, otherwise you might guess correctly that I dressed as Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange.

607, Jerusalem completely subjected or destroyed? Which is it? New light?
by JoeGeneration inaccording to the authorized site of the office of public information of jehovah's witnesses www.jw-media.org, beginning in 607 b.c.e., jerusalem was completely subjected to the rule of gentile world powers.
does this indicate that wts is getting away from insisting that jerusalem .
was destroyed in 607, as we know it was not, but rather that it came under the thumb of babylon and marked an end to true rule of a king in the line of david?

"The general facts are much more valuable and important than merely the day or the year respecting these facts. 'Let brotherly love continue!' Suffer not any dispute over a day or a year to break the most precious bond of love which binds us to the Lord and to all who are truly his. Be specially careful on this point when the subject of discussion is one respecting which we have no positive knowledge. The rupture of fellowship may sometimes be necessary, when we "contend earnestly for the faith once delivered unto the saints" --faith in the divine plan, in the Redeemer, in the efficacy of his death, etc. These matters are positively stated in the Bible--not left to deduction, as in the case of chronology and all matters based upon chronology." C.T. Russell, Zion’s Watch Tower, November 15, 1913, (R5348)
I appreciate this admission by Russell, as his issuance of "God's dates, not ours" are paraded about regularly. It shows that Russell would not terminate fellowshipping in worship with people who might merely disagree with him on dates, whereas this is what the Watchtower has as policy today and for too long:
***
w86 4/1 p. 31 Questions From Readers ***Approved association with Jehovah’s Witnesses requires accepting the entire range of the true teachings of the Bible, including those Scriptural beliefs that are unique to Jehovah’s Witnesses. What do such beliefs include?... That 1914 marked the end of the Gentile Times and the establishment of the Kingdom of God in the heavens, as well as the time for Christ’s foretold presence.

I became disabled in June, and sometimes the frustration and feelings of helplessness and lack of worth are overwhelming. It's something to fight, but fighting and living is better than laying down and dying. Part of that fight might be to swallow pride, and accept what people willingly give. That's one of the things wrong with ME anyway.

Even post-JW I didn't care for Halloween, but I have gone to a few parties and dressed up the other night.
I also recommend Pagels' book, and anything she has written. In fact, I might dig out of my library and re-read her Origins of Satan book this week.

my house is so decorated with spider webs, pumpkins, skulls, gravestones, etc.
when i opened the door the crawling hand and candy dishes started thier seperate sounds and music, i just started to laugh.. she didn't introduce herself as one of jehovah's witnesses, she said she was doing volunteer work.

I wonder how I'll react next time they knock on my door. As I've told here before, the last time had a young JW woman by herself, and I asked her if she thought that was dangerous, then yelled out to the "brother" who was walking by on the sidewalk that her knocking on doors by herself is pretty stupid and "you should know better!" I also enjoyed the one poster's fictional dialogue.
AA,
One user on JWD was brought out by a billboard that simply said, "607 BCE?!?" For me, that wouldn't have meant a thing. But it caught his eye, he did some research, and realized the 607 date was baloney. He got out.
I dunno if you're referring to me, but yeah, in January of 1997 I was at a client's home. He happened to be Jewish and had a Hebrew timeline/chart and it had 586 BCE for the desolation of Solomon's temple and I thought, "That can't be right!" And down the slope I slipped. -

How much money would you have to win, to quit your job?
by JH insome people love their jobs so much, that even if they won a couple of million $ playing lotto, they would still keep their jobs !!!
sounds stupid, right?
but i guess some have wonderful jobs, and money isn't everything.. how about you, what's the minimum you'd need to win to say, good bye boss ?

An honest answer from me would be: $500,000,000.00.
In order for my family business to dissolve, I would first make sure my father's medical bills could be covered and his and mom's lifestyle comfortably kept. I would make sure my brother is set for life. And with my small share, I would invest it with a high school friend who is well respected here in Buffalo (there was mayoral candidacy talk and his picture in the paper) who is a financial advisor and live off the interest, a little better than I live today, but not much. I'm a simple man. For goodness' sakes, this entire year, 10 months, I have "made" about six thousand dollars thanks to my disability. Which reminds me, I gotta call the electric company about my bill otherwise you won't see me online for a while. ;)

2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and then what?
by truthseeker inin just a few weeks, this year will end and a new one begins.
nothing special, just 2006.. but when you analyse the jw doctrine, it is another nail in their already 91 nail studded coffin.
the watchtower has for decades taught that jesus' presence and rulership began in 1914. since changing the generation of 1914 doctrine, a whole decade has passed, with little in the way of anything new.

Thanks for showing that revised question, truthseeker. Nice catch.
Yes, with the internet and whispers from here and there that a century old standstill reign of an invisible man "up there" is kinda silly, the WT will I believe start reverting back to a form of "character development"... sort of maybe a mix of $cientology and Russellism. They'll still be as hungry as ever for money, and they'll be needing it from more and more less affluent people. These newer people will need money to contribute so they are going to hold down full-time jobs and try to satisfy the yoke that JWs since the '40s have had pressed on them. Although we have already seen some lightening of it. Public talks are practically written for elders now... pioneering is now 840 hours a year, not 1000. They'll continue to grudgingly give a little to take more. And while we as freethinkers got over it, there will always be those who need "God." IDers are the big story now. And American protestantism teaches we've been in the "last days" and awaiting the return of the christ for nearly 2000 years!
