I'm glad your dad's surgery went okay. If my dad ever needs surgery (which would have to be a major deal because his health is so bad), the blood issue will definitely be a problem. My mom is a JW but pretty liberal. My brother is an ex, though not DF'd, and he and I would make sure the doctors have every option available, according to my dad's wishes. At this point he has no problem saving his own blood for later transfusion. No JW better get in the way; my brother and I would be all over them and not nicely.

JWs show up at my dad's surgery.
by Darth Yhwh inheres a little background: my mother is a jw, my father is not, my sister is disfellowshipped and i have faded away.. my father has an abdominal aortic aneurism.
this is a weak spot on the wall of the major artery leading to the lower extremities.
it will balloon out and burst eventually killing him without assistance.

I have no interest in the film. What I will be seeing is Kevin Smith's Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks.

If absolute proof proved the bible Jesus true....would you be happy?
by gumby inthis question is obviously directed at the un-bible believer.. lets for the sake of conversation say that absolute historical documentation was found that the man jesus was everything the new testement says he is.
we can assume the o. t. has some myth mixed in, but jesus was for real.. would you be happy?
would you follow him?

That question, to me, is like asking: if Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma were proved absolutely true.... would you be happy?
I.e., the question itself (not the questioner!) is absurd. But, to play the game, no it wouldn't make me any happier or sadder. Whether gods exist or not doesn't matter to me. I would still live my life as I see fit, and if Jesus kills me or sends me to hell for it, so be it.

Are you honest with yourself, about how much time you spend online?
by free2beme ini was filling out a form to register a product this week and one of the questions asked, "how much time do you spend online?
" as much as i wanted to say, "about an hour every two weeks," i know it is more.
i don't spend nearly as much time as i used too, and actually go several days without even turning on a computer.

As I'm not working and have no car, I spend 14-20 hours a day online. Mostly JWD, newspapers, espn.com, and partypoker.com, with some games.com mixed in.

beliefs I thought were unique to JWs because they had holy spirit
by demeter inthis forum rocks.
i like it very much.. i want to talk about something that i have noticed since leaving the jws.. i thought the ideas about the millenium, armeggedon, invisibility of christ's presence, etc were inspired as truths given only to the anointed to pass on to the faithful witnesses.
the parousia idea was an idea borrowed from a preacher named miller when one of his apocalyptic prophecies failed to come true.

Nate, yeah, especially since it oughta be Nisan 15.
There's plenty in WT material that admits Russell got much of his ideas from other people. Really, there's very little unique to JWs - they have amalgramed this and that from him and her and have come up with the mess that is Present Truth.

Heroin's a nastyass drug, man. I can't be in favor of its legalization. I'd rather see marijuana legalized and alcohol prohibited again. Stoners don't hurt anybody and I don't know anyone that got high a lot, quit, and had bad withdrawals or aftereffects.
Ever hear of that study, dunno if it's an urban legend or not, where one bunch of lab mice were given access to heroin and food, and another group given cocaine and food. The mice with the coke got high but would eat sometimes. The heroin mice starved to death, but they sure didn't feel any pain.

The story of my life (part 17- AlanF, COC, and more AlanF)
by onacruse inso, during all of the 80s, i raised 2 kids (my ex-wife's; i've never had any biological offspring), worked on fixing up her ww2 house; made money (the economy took a turn for the better); muddled along in the congregration.. (i love those kids, to this day.
in a recent conversation wife my ex, i asked her to convey my feelings and concerns to them.
i seriously doubt that those feelings on my part were ever relayed.

Cool stories, dude. I had CoC read in 2 days, and when I got it in spring of 1997 I had just met Alan. Through Alan's patient emails and posts and Franz's book, I eventually did a lot of my own research and got out of the Witnesses relatively unscathed.
Your stories are cool, btw Craig. Keep 'em comin'.

I recently saw Alien Vs. Predator and it really made me appreciate how the Predator people struggled for their way of life and how much they respected the sacrifices other Predators made so their race could survive.

I'd delegate all my power to somebody else and live a normal life.
