i am new here and i have a special gift for you that i have been developing through heated debated with atheist/agnostics in a number of forums of this nature.

i feel i am supposed to share this special gift primarily with jehovahs witnesses for, through my prayers, i have been extremely inspired by you.. before i enter the post i would like to experiment and get to know how this forum works.

special edit: okay, i'm getting the hang of this very different format than i am used to.

So you feel like because they have rebuffed your manifestations of love for your neighbors that it's ok to give up on them? Is that what the Bible teaches?

And for your info. I haven't locked my doors or had any alarms installed in my house in over a year. If burglars want in, a lock or an alarm won't stop them. That was proven last week here in Buffalo where it took the police an hour to respond to an alarm call. None of my neighbors are JWs or even Christian from what I can tell. If they were JWs they would shun me instead of plowing my driveway, cutting my grass and giving me rides to the grocery store or post office.

Jason, you're fighting a losing battle here, son. Wouldn't you find it easier to go pray or something?

Can the Jehovah's Witnesses society be sued

my sister who is the ex wife of the fellow i posted about,( re: commiting suicide) was a jw for 17 years being df'd 4 years ago.

i have told her about this site and read to her the replies to the posts i have made and she has had a browse around but will not join yet as she does not have access to the internet, although she really loves the site.

she and i were talking this morning and thru me she would like to ask; does anyone here think it would get her anywhere if she were to sue the watchtower society for years of guilt and mental stress she and her late ex husband have suffered?

The legal system can do nothing about your past decisions to live and act according to the WT decreets [sic].

I don't think suing the Christian Congregation of JWs or any of their corporations would work. I think the better avenue to take is would be to take your medicine, chalk it up as a learning experience, and move on with your life.

Disturbing Information Passed on in Annual Elders Meeting?

as you all may know, the elders around america have had (or will have) their annual meetings.

you know, the ones where they are trained and brought up to date about the whole scheme of things.. anyway, an elder who i happen to be close to was telling me yesterday that some troubling/disturbing things has been going down in congregations worldwide.

he also mentioned that it will be mentioned in watchtowers and km's in the next few months.. anyone know what he may be talking about?

I'd guess it's going to have to do with the internet, and faithful JWs who think they can skip the Society's admonitions to not make webpages and do it anyway. The demonization of the internet will continue, not so much in print, but by "suggestions" and "counsel" by elders.

If I get my hands back I want to join the band. I have all the instruments -- Ibanez electric guitar, two acoustics, RP3 digital processor, 160 watt Peavey amp, Williams electric piano/synthesizer, Ludwig drum kit and Zildjan cymbals. Had to sell my 12 string and Yamaha acoustics, but we could make up for that. :)

It's sad that some Witnesses will decide to forgo college and end up in very trying circusmstances later in life. That's one of the reasons I'm at where I'm at. I did well working for 15 years after high school but now that I'm disabled and can't do the hard work I used to, I have nothing to fall back on (no 'higher education').

In the last congo I attended, a fellow who went to college and had a well-paying job had to work Saturday nights and didn't get home until 8am Sunday morning. So he was 'too tired' to make Sunday meetings. I heard grumbling from some brothers who weren't as well-to-do that he didn't have to have such a high paying job while they passed up opportunities and made ALL the meetings. Yet none of this prevented him from qualifying as a ministerial servant. When he got a promotion at work and didn't have to work Saturday nights any longer he was instantly promoted to elder and even conducted the WT study, though he hadn't actually been to one in years.

JWism just gets messier and messier and thank Yahweh I'm no part of it.

JW kids: How old were you when you stopped getting spanked?

i was 17 when i was last spanked.

it was the day of my high school graduation.

I think I was 10 or 11. My dad might remember better. Dad? (I know you're reading this.) He doesn't post though so I guess if I talk to him this weekend I'll ask.

I know this much. When us kids got spankings they were never out of anger, and we were always given the reason behind the punishment. My dad also made sure we knew he was doing what the Bible said to do. It was pretty clear he did not like spankings, but did it because he thought it was Jehovah's way. After a spanking he would always hug us and tell us he loved us. Once I remember him even crying. I'm pretty sure he hated giving spankings but did it out of duty. If he could do it all over again I'm sure there'd be other forms of discipline administered.

we all know that having a beard or a goatee is wrong in the jw organization.

how about if a brother just decides to be bald, by choice?.

what do the elders say then?

I like shaving my head every once in a while. Very comfortable. Around here, if you're black it's fine. I dunno about white 'brothers,' but I recall as far back as 1987 visiting Brooklyn Bethel and there was a white dude working there who had a shaved head.
