For the fellow who asked if Bible and secular history can mix, one possible reading of Jeremish 25:11,12 is that the 70 years rerpresents a time period of servitude to the Babylonian monarch. When the Assyrian capital fell in 609 to Babylonia one could mark the 70 years as occurring from 609 to 539 as Jer 25:12 pretty clearly says the king of Babylon would be called to account after the 70 years were up, not in his 68'/69th year as the WT says. That is, if you really believe in all that sort of thing.

On a whim, stopped by the library for books on Jerusalems destruction
by ithinkisee inso i was driving by the library on my way home today and remembered i do have a library card and decided to go in and do my own research on 607 bce.
i figured i might find a book or two in our little old library.
i did a search on the library's computers for "jerusalem history" and got a handful of books ... i wrote down the dewey decimal number (or whatever it is) of one of them (they are all in the same general section) and headed to the reference wing of the library.

What Kinds of Jobs Do JWs Have That You Know Of?
by minimus ini was thinking that most jws that i personally know have jobs that they really aren't happy with.
almost no one is a professional except for one cardiologist that got baptized a few years ago.
there's no one that's been raised in the "truth" that has a college education that i know of except one 22 year old young man who has done nothing to seek employment since he graduated.........any witnesses that you know of with great jobs?

You can carry a gun and be a JW, you just are not used for anything, such as praying, handling mics, reading the WT and so forth.
Just about every JW man that I knew had a 9-5 job so he couldn't pioneer, whereas the women (even the self-suffiicient ones) somehow found work that allowed for pioneer hours. One M.S. I knew held a prominent managerial job at a factory which had him work until 8am Sunday morning, rendering him 'too tired' to make Sunday morning meetings. When after a number of years his schedule changed due to a BLESSING FROM JEHOVAH and now could attend Sundays (and was immediately promoted to elder nd WT conductor as well..... what a backyards congo).

thought blood issue was left up to each one's discretion....
by crazyblondeb innow i may have gotten this wrong.
but didn't someone mention the blood issue is up to each person?
in the new release, "what does the bible really teach" it gives a list of "what jehovah shuns":.

"Misuse of blood" can mean just about anything. The Society leaves it up to the local brothers to determine whether blood had been misused either in surgery or elsewhere.

Out of rehab
by Cygnus ini was discharged today from the rehab center in the hospital.
there were 14 inpatients there and i was the least of their worries.
i would take 8-15 10/325 generic norco (think strong vicodin without too mcuh tylenol) a day and that's it.

Thank you Alan, old friend.
I have ever only taken 4 oxycodones, that was a year and a half ago and BOY did they throw me for a loop.
The girl who was taking 100 Lortabs was there 4 days; she also left today but got there a day earlier than me. They don't keep you long. They start you on a dose of buprenorphine and lower it as you feel better, When any signs of withdrawal are gone they let you go. Most of the patients there stay 2-5 days. I have no idea how they;d afford a 28 day program. And let's face it: 5 days, 28 days, what is the difference if you're just gonna go out and score again. We watched video tapes, had NICE counselors (not like the psych ward counselors who obviously hated their job and got through with you ASAP). The people in this program all seemed genuine that they wanted to quit. Many of their lives were ruined. They had no possessions left because they sold them all for drugs. They hit rock bottom. I was nowhere near rock bottom but I wanted to get help before I was on my way there.

Well it is tough feeling the pain come back (I have a ton of it). Thanks Renee for your advice. I might even try acupuncture. Since I am on Coumadin I am not supposed to take motrin or ibuprofen but if there is NOTHING else my doc can do then I will say look, I will regularly take ibuprofen, you'll just have to adjust my coumadin for it. I also already have an outpatient appointment with a counselor from NA and see my therapist on Tuesday, Not to justify what I was doing but man, how do you take a HUNDRED of those pills a day? And I didn't tell you about one guy. He would shoot 3 bags of heroin, then eat the gel out of two morphine patches, then drink a 12 pack, then take 5 Ambien. How he's still alive I have no idea.
Edited to add: Brenda, I tried buy 10/325 Norcos from Mexico but he kept sending me 10/650s. Then I bought 1000 2mg tablets of straight hydro, no tylenol, from China and they were good. But that was last year. March 24 I got a letter from US Customs saying the DEA had intercepted a package deliverable to me from China with a controlled substance in it and they said they could just destroy it and I wouldn't be held accountable but the next time it would be a felony. Well I didn't order from overseas so I don't know if the guy in China mailed them to me by accident or what, so I said YES PLEASE just destroy them. The DEA has become VERY strict about overseas narcotic drugs,

I would take 8-15 10/325 generic Norco (think strong vicodin without too mcuh tylenol) a day and that's it. They had two girls there who would take at least 50 a day. They had one girl who would take 100 a day (these are not typos). One kid was in because he sold every possession he had to buy drugs, would shoot 3 bags a day of heroin, drink alcohol on it, then take 5-6 Ambien. One fellow (who also has AIDS) used needles for H and burned half his nose off smoking crack.
Interestingly there was a girl there who was (sort of) a JW. She was a shooter of H. They had a smoking room open 6 times a day and she smoked with the rest of us. The girl who did 100 pills a day was a witch and she cast a 'feel good' spell on this JW girl and the JW girl told me it made her feel GREAT but she got some guilt from it for displeasing Jehovah. Wild and wacky stuff, I'll tell ya.
I'm glad I went even though my co-pay will be astronomical because they give you pills to dissolve under the tongue that definitely work to take away withdrawal symptoms. It's nearly 2:30 am here now and I still feel OK not having a Norco in 4 days. But my pain has come back with a vengeance, So I have some pain management session already scheduled and I will figure out how to deal with my pain without popping expensive pills that just mask the problem anyway.
So I am far from recovered just yet and I could use your support through this. Thanks to all who have already had kind things to say on the board here, in PM here, in email and also on the phone, :)

What Is The Purpose Of Life? - please read if you care about me
by Cygnus inthese last 2 months have been the worst of my life.
i can only answer my subject question by saying the purpose of life is the 4 things sought after in the wizard of oz: love, courage, intelligence, and home.. and we all possess them whether we know it or not.

Thank you to all. I can't sleep tonight knowing that in 7 hours I'll be in the rehab/clinic and I will have to spill my guts about everything. Not just my addiction but everything. It is going to be one of the hardest things I will ever have to go and do but I have to go do it. I'll try to bring my laptop and see if they let me use it or what happens.

Another thank you to everyone..... I am using up my posts cause I don't know when I'll be able to post here again.
Candidly, I did visit my surgeon, he said to go on Zoloft. I didn't like that idea, espically since I am on two antidepressants already.
Outoftheorg, I am sorry for what you thought of me but believe me there was a lot involved and I only said half of what happened. It's between me and her and she has forgiven me and that's all that needs to be said now. Thank you for your kinds words now though.
Nina, I hope to visit you somebody when I see Jo and Becky again. They were amazing last time I saw them.
I love you all and I read the board when I can but not every day and I don't post much but please accept my love and thank you for your love.
